Paul Boratko Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) Is looks amazing, but one problem I see is that Technic panels all show ugly sprue marks & are to be covered by stickers. So if it ends up all black, it's gonna be chockful of sprue marks, no? IF this model is based off of the newest Track Porsche 911 GT3 RS, it will definitely not be black.. Chade Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 This car looks amazing, but I don't think it will be RC. It looks like more of a display model. Feature rich with probably 2500+ parts at my guess. Amazingly expensive though. Hope I'm wrong about RC, love some new PF components. Finally a 16+ classification on the box
Emmi Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 1281 pcs I guess it's no big deal to guess that this will have close to 3000 pcs or even more. I mean just look at the difference!!! 8070 is a joke compared to 42056.
Appie Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 The 8070 is a joke compared to anything though TLG put a lot of detail in this, but I suspect they made it a flat 6 and not a boxer 6. It would add a lot of pieces for an effect most people would not even notice. I wouldn't notice indeed, until that image I just thought flat engine and boxer were 2 names for the same type of engine (sorry, but I did).

TLG will do what the real-life counterpart has - so if the real one has boxer engine they use that instead of flat engine! It's a licensed premium set, TLG and Porsche won't do half assed things here.

The 8070 is a joke compared to anything though I´m really wondering if the discussion still can be taken seriously at this point. To say "a joke" is an exaggerated judgement about the 8070 set IMveryHO! If you don´t like the one compared to the other, it´s fine. I don´t like the older sets like 8880 or 8448 anymore, when I look at the Porsche, but for that time they were really pleasant and enjoyable for me and they were worth every penny I´ve been working hard for to purchase them back then. So please try to design a better 1:10 scale car with 1281 pieces with such great functionality and overall look, I wanna see it (I´d not be able to)! You cannot make a judgement by piece count comparison alone, because these cars are built at different times, in different scales, the new one uses advanced parts availability and nobody still knows what it has to offer regarding playability. Kumbbl Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I fully agree with brunojj. 8070 has no gear selecting, well, but in all ither aspects inkl. look i know no MOC which i would rate a better car especially for less than 1300 parts
Musikfreak Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I'm not so sure if this could be so easy. It's no exactly like the front steering wheels. The rear wheels only slightly turn, and at low speeds in opposite direction of the front wheels and at high speeds in the same direction. It would be a very dificult exercise to replicate in legos, especially a feature that is speed dependent. But that's just my opinion! While I don't actually think this car has the rear wheel steering they could manage by linking it to the gearbox. So instead of speed dependent it would be 1st gear counter steering 2nd neutral and higher gears crab-like steering. Since they introduce that feature in the Claas - who knows. Maybe it is included.

Musikfreak Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) Yes Porsche has a system where the rear wheel slightly steer. Depending on the speed you are going it's either counter steering at low speeds (to get a smaller turning circle) or very slight co steering at high speeds (to stabilize high speed cornering). Then again on the prelim box it looks like the rear wheels are straight. Edited January 31, 2016 by Musikfreak
AlphaX Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 does the real Porsche even have that? they said it's exclusive for Claas set. The real Porsche does have a rear steering, its geared down a bit to help in turns and corners. Could be exclusive to claas tough.

Hm, ok ... but I honestly think that TLG might want to keep this feature exclusive to the Claas set ... for this year at least. But on the other side if the real Porsche has it, TLG and Porsche sure would want to make sure that this set has this function too. We'll see in a few months - not sure when TLG might unveil the final color scheme including the sets features. Is there a Porsche or special car-event coming soon?
Emmi Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I'm hoping for a printed Porsche logo! Like they did with the Mercedes logo in the Arocs set. In general I'm hoping that there will be NO stickers - I hope it's all printed ... but the minimum and a MUST for me is that the Porsche logo is printed!
nerdsforprez Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 1281 pcs I guess it's no big deal to guess that this will have close to 3000 pcs or even more. I mean just look at the difference!!! 8070 is a joke compared to 42056. Having played quite a but with different scaling of models..... I can tell you when you increase scale from like 1:12 to 1:8 you can easily double the piece count. I mentioned this when Sheepo announced he was going to begin beuilding in smaller scale. I know the scales mentioned aren't exactly the scales of the Porsche and 8070, but you get the idea. I don't know the exact size of the tires and rims, but I think they are the same as taken from 42000. these are the same tires Sheepo used in his mustang (which had 3500-4000 pieces -- depending on which model you build). Using tires as an idea of the scale of a model, I think it is more than safe to say is is more of a Sheepo mustang type scale, and very likely 3000-3500 pieces. Looks pretty packed as a model, so that is another factor. It all this is accurate, we will have TWO models that surpass the largest Technic set to date.... the AROCS....
Cumulonimbus Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) Looks good so far, maybe more information can be obtained from the video, I found it helpful to put the video in full screen and play it at .25% of the speed, then I took screenshots of areas of interest. Thank you, I did use the available videos as input, but let's just say that I understand now why they made this preliminary model all black. It makes it really hard to distinguish individual parts and structures and a lot of detail is obscured by shadows and the limited dynamic range of the cameras which where used. We'll have to wait for better/more/higher detailed pictures and movies. Edited January 31, 2016 by Cumulonimbus
allanp Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 The tyres are the same outer diameter as 42000 but they are wider and appear to be lower profile, which means a slightly larger diameter and deeper wheel.
nerdsforprez Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 The tyres are the same outer diameter as 42000 but they are wider and appear to be lower profile, which means a slightly larger diameter and deeper wheel. Good info. So, from the larger tire diameter I think we can safety say this is much much larger and more densely built than the 8070 ( we already knew that). This was all obvious but IMO, it points to an overall piece count more around 3000 or 3500 than 2000-2500 pieces.
Boulderer Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Well, that took some reading to catch up on what's been said so far! Has anyone considered that the mechanisms behind the seats may be something related to adjusting the seats? Back/forward maybe? Looking back at 8070, it's not inconceivable for PF to be used to drive non drivetrain features.

Take it easy. It was a joke, hence the smiley. If you want to talk serious about the 8070 I think we have a designated topic for that set, but I also think we're 4+ years late for that discussion. So let's just say: you have your opinion and I have mine about that set and they are miles apart. And no, I wouldn't be able to make a 1300 parts car either in that scale and with those looks, but that wasn't the point in the first place and changes nothing of my opinion about the 8070.

Looking back at 8070, it's not inconceivable for PF to be used to drive non drivetrain features. Very good point but I am wondering if those "non drivetrain features" have anything to do with the infamy of the 8070 in the first place (as can be seen from recent posts, people really didn't like the 8070 that much). I am not sure of the hate of the 8070, but if it had to do with that is one of the reasons why people didn't like it in the first place then "non drivetrain features" is a reason for TLG to NOT add such features in the new Porsche and not to add them.......
allanp Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) Yeah, as I remember not many people were happy with motorised hood and doors whilst leaving out motorising the wheels. I wasn't happy about having a gearbox but not a speed changing transmission. Motorising the doors and the hood are a complete waste of time IMHO. Edited January 31, 2016 by allanp
Appie Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 The non-drive train features of the 8070 are fine imo, IF they were added besides the normal functions a Lego Technic Supercar always had, like a gearbox used for the engine. Since everything looks like the Porsche will have every basic function a real Lego Technic supercar had, they can add any 8070 function as well for all I care.
Emmi Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I think you can definitely adjust the position of the seats - forward, backward, maybe even up and down??? I'm so so excited for TLG to reveal more about this set, does anyone have an idea when this could be. This set is obviously coming out in August - that's been pretty much confirmed. Also I believe that a piece count of 3000-3300 pieces is VERY likely - I definitely think it will be the 2nd biggest Technic set (BWE > Porsche > Arocs)
