Okay after watching the video and skimming through this thread, this is what I have to say about it.

Wheels are just WOW. Tires are awful, I wouldn't mind seeing semi-slicks on a model like this.

Front end looks nice, the greenhouse and the side view are superb, but the back looks.. unfinished? Hopefully it's still in development.

The gearbox is interesting! I have an idea for a paddle-shift system that I'm working on right now, so I'm kinda mad that TLC beat me to it but I have to say the steering column looks atrotious. Also could the changeover catch in the middle be used to control something other than the gearbox? Like a function splitter for the non drivetrain functions ( if there are any)?

Where's the roll cage?! For $300(?) I expect it to be as detailed as possible.

Please don't be black. I'll be happy with orange although I do think that the 991 GT3 RS looks stunning in Ultraviolet

While you all are rebuilding the gearbox and steering area, I went for something much more simple

Here's my humble rebuild of the spoiler in order to get an idea of the scale of the set.

Its pretty big and can be easily angled a few degrees forward and backward

Having played quite a but with different scaling of models..... I can tell you when you increase scale from like 1:12 to 1:8 you can easily double the piece count. I mentioned this when Sheepo announced he was going to begin beuilding in smaller scale. I know the scales mentioned aren't exactly the scales of the Porsche and 8070, but you get the idea. I don't know the exact size of the tires and rims, but I think they are the same as taken from 42000. these are the same tires Sheepo used in his mustang (which had 3500-4000 pieces -- depending on which model you build). Using tires as an idea of the scale of a model, I think it is more than safe to say is is more of a Sheepo mustang type scale, and very likely 3000-3500 pieces. Looks pretty packed as a model, so that is another factor. It all this is accurate, we will have TWO models that surpass the largest Technic set to date.... the AROCS....

Its impossible to judge from a pic like this, but has it ever happend before that the second last set has been larger (in pieces) than the flagship itself? I guess its a first time for everything... but if this car has enough size to hold 3500 pieces they could very well had push it to 4000 just to make it the biggest. Either it will be 4000+, or "only" 2500-3000 which would be my 2 cents!

Comparing 8070 to 42056 is like comparing 8865 with 8880 IMO :) I really do not know why people are not so kind with 8070, question here to owners of 8880 or 8448 or even 8865 how many times did you change gears while "playing" with it?

About 42056 this set is really a big step forward... ! Really looking for more informations about it.

Every time I have my 8880 or 8865 out I shift gears, it is the best part of those sets. I don't think your comparison is accurate at all, those two cars are a lot closer together then this set and 8070.

I did not have any of the sets listed, but I did have 8466, which is pretty much a supercar. I changed the gears all the time, I liked seeing the engine move at different speeds. Plus, in relation to everything that came previously, 8070 was a major step backwards. No AWD, no gearbox at all, and the Power Functions really did not add anything to the set. Opening doors are nice, but not as a motorized feature. Hopefully, Lego has done something different with this set. Although, if there are a number of clever features, it is almost disappointing that there is so much cladding, such that you can hardly see them.

My 2 cents - 1st post BTW :-)

Regarding tires:

Tires are 81.6 x 44 ZR, or in LEGO units diameter 10.2 L, width 5.5 L. Tire pic is on this page:

http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=120399&st=75

Scale vs. No. of bricks:

Going from 1:10 to 1:8 increases volume almost twofold and the number of bricks should be related to volume of the car.

Going from 1:12 to 1:8 increases the volume more than threefold (3.375 times to be exact)

Calculated scale of the Porsche is about 1:8.3 and it's "volume" is pretty "full" (= complete dashboard, seats, all body panels, sequential gearbox, engine, possible PF parts,...), so it might have ~3000 bricks.

Speculation here is 1300 parts $ EUR 230 (not 300). 1300 parts IMHO is too little for such a a large model. Price sounds about right though:

Didn't the guy at the Lego stand at the Toy Fair already confirm it's around 3000 parts? So save yourself some work and just go with that?

Posted

Wasn't aware that the guy at the stand said anything about the model. What else did he say?

I've heard that he confirmed that the color will change - both on the outerior and interior of the car.

Nothing about piece count or price though - but it's no big guess that this will have around 3000 pieces.

Thanks for your concern. I did read the 3000 parts & EUR 300 in this thread. Doing some basic math for size vs. part count sanity check is trivial, reading through all 26 pages of this thread & dozens of other sites with pics & info IS work

It is more or less in scale 1:8.3

37 studs wheelbase

29 studs wide front axle

31 studs wide rear axle

67 studs long

20 studs tall

Similar size of my Porsche 911 and Mustang

Scale 1:8 sounds about right. Assuming Sheepo's numbers are correct:

1:8.30 from wheelbase (2456 mm vs. 37 studs)

1:8.48 from length (4545 mm vs. 67 studs)

1:7.58 from width (1880 mm vs. 31 studs)

Guess the 1:10 printed on the box is deliberately "misleading", same as color and camouflage and will be 1:8 on real box?

But where does the 300 EUR price tag come from? It is mentioned on first page of this thread, but no source - or I missed something?

Supposedly 300 EUR comes from LEGO, but what if this is only for "customer expectations management" to build up the "hype" and the real price is lower?

Erm, how about ... nope?

If the hole in the center of the dash is for HoG, why isn't there a guid piece at the top, like a 15100?

The bevel gear in the center of the dash turns a gear on the axle going forward to steering rack (visible in the front hood open picture). There seems to be no HOG option in the middle of the dash...

But yet, there is a ugly hole on this beautiful bodywork

Maybe, just maybe they want to add something like a windshield wiper and thats the hole for it? Would be neat in my opinion.

It could be clearance for the 12z gear located below for the steering. but most likely it's just a open space with no purpose, It could be fixed with a 1 stud long technic beam, but I don't think those come in any color other than dark bluish gray.

but why not radio, or other?

Because BT would allow to control functions from a variety of devices, like an iPad, a smartphone or a computer, etc. just like you can program the EV3 brick from an iPad already.
