For all Eurobrickers in or near Germany. Today I visited a Müller store to het lego for my wife. I adked for information about the Porsche.

Price 299€ according to there system and deliverydate for them is 30th of July. So I think I can verify the release date of 1st August and the price.

And the system had an allways keep in store amount. They planned to keep at least 2 sets at all time in Store. The fact of Müller being a drug store and not a dedicated Toy selling point indicates, that the set won't have a limited production run.

Edit: info about limited set

That's around US $350. This hobby is suddenly getting very pricey ... :( ... It has evolved from toy to collector's items.

It depends on the sets you want to buy. The must haves however have a must have price...

299€ - 20% = 239 Euronen for ~4k parts = deal

(I am still hoping that the B-model will be a Ferrari ;-))

For your information, this set has 3K parts, the one that has 4k is the Bucket wheel excavator.

And if you hope the B-model to be a Ferrari, you hope to be dissapointed  .

Nothing sudden about the price creep over the past few decades.

Funny, years ago I did several regression analyses on price, weight, time, and other variables in Technic sets. In a nutshell, this is exactly what I discovered. There really is NOT, despite what the public feel is, any real price difference between sets if you look at it from a limited time perspective. Only when you compare huge time gaps, like late 80's/early nineties to like the late 2000's was there really any difference. And in reality the difference was not what people thought it was. People often look at price from a price per piece perspective. This is incorrect IMO. What my basic analyses found out is that there obviously was much more plastic (studded era, so makes sense) that went into each piece 20-30 years ago than today. Even the black pins were thicker and used more plastic. It was the difference in weight that accounted for the difference in price, not some nefarious scheme of TLG to simply charge more for some unknown, arbitrary reason.

People are going to use the price of this set to justify their untested, biased, and likely inaccurate assumption that Lego is getting more and more expensive as time progresses. This simply has not been empirically demonstrated and I encourage people to NOT take this set as evidence to their untested belief. There are simply other factors at play. Price is money, and therefore certainly strikes a cord with most, and therefore IMO people need to be careful of the quick emotional belief as opposed to one that is more logical and tested.

While I certainly see your point, I've done many statistical analyses as well, and the devil is in the details, the assumptions you make, and the metrics you use for cost of living. Salary increases in the US for one have not kept up with the increased cost of living (unless you work in very 'special' sectors) ... When you compare the price increase of Lego vs other things you use at home, does everything have the same trend? This discussion can go on and on for a while with many 'valid' opinions and arguments. I am not here to bash TLG or complain, and still admit that I'm here (like many) by my own choice/will.

As a matter of fact: Lego is an expansive hobby. I am a bit sad that I triggered a discussion about cost developmemt. I just wanted to state the facts I knew about the 42056. I think we should follow this price development discussion in the general discussion board. It just clocks up this thread.

. Agreed! I guess my comment was my own attempt to try to stop the incessant dribble about this set's price. I have commented on this before in this thread and guess I just need to stop. It is just disappointing that we, as an AFOL community ask for all these great features, and then when they potentially come, we complain about the price. *sigh* Lego is expensive guys and gals...... Lets accept it.

Okay......soapbox over.....
