davebarrett Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 (edited) Jan Beyer (TLG community manager for europe) started building it. :) Looks like those hubs are pretty offset! Edited May 4, 2016 by davebarrett
AOW Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Have you notices that the wheels do not come out of the archers much? It can be seen from the picture often posted here. Another question, have you seen that there is a kind of yellow axle going into the front of the car? Then it is connected to CV join and goes somewhere into the frame ... ?
BrickWild Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Jan Beyer (TLG community manager for europe) started building it. :) Any more pics yet?
Ngoc Nguyen Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Isn't it strange that the rims come in a nylon bag, while in the designer video they come in a separate container right upon the top of the box?
LegoCube Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 (edited) Looks like those hubs are pretty offset! Close to perfect. Might be wishful thinking though. I really hope the front wheels have a nice turning angle and pivot point rather than some compromise to fit them in the wheel arches... Edited May 4, 2016 by LegoCube
Cwetqo Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Isn't it strange that the rims come in a nylon bag, while in the designer video they come in a separate container right upon the top of the box? This is most likely pre-production run. I'm sure that final box will be as on video. Any more pics yet? Not yet. I would not expect them before weekend, since Jan is very busy guy and also not a Technic builder, so it will take a bit more time.
Thirdwigg Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 I am planning on using these new rims on my next supercar, ( I'll start a WIP topic later this week) but to my dismay it doesn't look like an axle can be mounted in the center... Which is a shame, since it will render my working disc brakes solution useless :( I had this same question a couple pages back. I still have no indication of a center axle hole. There are not many wheels without it. I'd like to be hopeful.

Jim Posted May 4, 2016 Author Posted May 4, 2016 Any more pics yet? Please don't quote images? And more images will most certainly be posted when available. No need to ask. Has this been posted before? It appears to NOT have a center hole.
davebarrett Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 (edited) I'm not 100% sure, but the pivot point looks well positioned here in the designer video, 3m 40s point here: Edited May 4, 2016 by davebarrett
Zerobricks Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Jim, thats rear suspension About the lack of wheels's axlehole... Personally I dont miss it, hardly anyone uses normal axles at such large scales due to the flex and weak attachment point.
Jim Posted May 4, 2016 Author Posted May 4, 2016 Jim, thats rear suspension About the lack of wheels's axlehole... Personally I dont miss it, hardly anyone uses normal axles at such large scales due to the flex and weak attachment point. Explains the lever in the right bottom. I wasn't very sharp. I saw the calipers and I immediately linked them to the front wheels. Obviously the rear wheels have them as well.
Emmi Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 There's definitely front wheel suspension too - I have seen the shock absorbers on the front too, I'm 100% sure!
Jim Posted May 4, 2016 Author Posted May 4, 2016 There's definitely front wheel suspension too - I have seen the shock absorbers on the front too, I'm 100% sure! Yes, there is. Don't panic
Zerobricks Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Front suspension is identical to the one in 24 hr race car.
Victor Imaginator Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Missing center axle hole in new wheel hubs can be mitigated with 2 Pulley Wheels and 3 Pins... It will also move pivot point at his standart not-so-real position)
Meatman Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Front suspension is identical to the one in 24 hr race car. Yes. Just a little wider. I never thought that I would see Lego use a series of bevel gears to route the steering wheel to the front steering in one of there cars. Then again, they rarely ever use a functional steering wheel.
Jim Posted May 4, 2016 Author Posted May 4, 2016 Front suspension is identical to the one in 24 hr race car. The rear suspension of the 42039 uses a single spring: Any idea why the Porsche uses a double spring? That's not something which is based on the real car, right? Is it to make the rear a bit stiffer?
Zerobricks Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Any idea why the Porsche uses a double spring? That's not something which is based on the real car, right? Is it to make the rear a bit stiffer because there's more clearance? Simple answer.... Weight! 3000 parts is like 3 kilograms with more than half of them in the rear.
Jim Posted May 4, 2016 Author Posted May 4, 2016 Simple answer.... Weight! 3000 parts is like 3 kilograms with more than half of them in the rear. Sounds logical. The 42039 was pretty big, but this model is massive.
Emmi Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Sounds logical. The 42039 was pretty big, but this model is massive. Sounds like you have it standing in front of you ... mouth opened amazed on how big it is
