nerdsforprez Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 In all honesty though... are we asking because they will all be gone that fast or just because we want it that fast. My question is do people think that this will go so fast that I have to stay up til midnight refreshing my page so i actually get one of these models before the "temp. out of stock" lights up the page.....

Anyone else getting a deja-vu when reading this? I sure hope that this Porsche set is going to be available just like every other set for at least a year or so.
Jim Posted May 12, 2016 Author Posted May 12, 2016 Anyone else getting a deja-vu when reading this? The 41999 Porsche That was something. I must admig, this sure comes close. Something different, which has to do with S&H and this being a premium set. Last sets I received from TLG were....welll......damaged, to say the least. The box (even the set box) was torn apart. See lower left bottom. Being a normal Technic set (and not a box collector) I can accept this fact, although it would have been not so cool if it were a present. Not to start a discussion about S&H (maybe we should start another topic), but I surely hope TLG is edit: NOT sending out Porsches like this.
Emmi Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 ^ Jim, you hope that TLG IS sending out boxes like this ... I believe you meant to say ... DO NOT ...
technic_addict Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Not to start a discussion about S&H (maybe we should start another topic), but I surely hope TLG is sending out Porsches like this. Why do you hope they will send out damaged boxes? I hope my box comes in perfect condition.
will Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 I'm on the fence on whether to get it day one, or wait to see if other retailers will discount it further down the line. I got £50 off the arocs the other day, which makes the Porsche look very expensive.

I'd expect a midnight rush, but I also think they will have more units worldwide than the 41999 on the 1st of june and that wasn't sold out in a day either. Any or all of the following might happen (in order of most likely) in the night of 31st of may and the 1st of june: - Lego site might crash when it's put on the site (pretty much a given since it has problems even with normal use) - Order won't show in your account, but is being processed - Order won't show and is not being processed - Can't use VIP points - It's available for purchase but with a (3 weeks) later shipping date within 24 hours after launch (like the 41999) - It's temporarily out of stock - I am sure I forgot a couple of things, but I think these are the main things to consider Good luck. Just remember, while their site has its issues, Lego service is awesome. So if something is wrong, don't hesitate to call or email them and I am sure they will sort it out. notareal Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 this: http://shop.lego.com...11-GT3-RS-42056 shows €299 for me 349,95 € at Finland...

I want to be part of the rush, not part of the "backordered for 3 weeks" group. :)
thomol Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 349,95 € at Finland... 3199 Swedish krona, that's approximately 327.50 € with current exchange rate. And about 68% more than I gave for the Arocs at webhallen.se. Hopefully they will get it in August; with their usual pricing I will probably save around 60 € compared to official Lego channels.
Jim Posted May 12, 2016 Author Posted May 12, 2016 ^ Jim, you hope that TLG IS sending out boxes like this ... I believe you meant to say ... DO NOT ... What's in a word You are right of course. Thanks. Why do you hope they will send out damaged boxes? I hope my box comes in perfect condition. What Emmi said. Has this set been shipped in a box or wrapped in brown packaging paper? The Merc was shipped in a bigger box, which was completely torn apart. Looked like it was ripped open to look inside. Then again, the inner box was damaged as well, so maybe it was simply caused by S&H.
nerdsforprez Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 So this little detour, IMO, is completely pertinent to the set. Jim... the shipping is a great point. I did not think about that. If, as many have speculated, much of the price of the set is wrapped up in the "premium" packaging, I am kinda fearful for TLG in that they cannot control the shipping. They can package all they want, and do premium packaging etc... but what happens if it ships and is damaged? They better be ready to give out a lot of discounts if packages arrive damaged. I don't know if this has been your experience Jim, but I received a 42025 that the box was damaged just like your AROCS. I took a pic, sent it to customer service, and they discounted an equally priced set 20% off! That was a huge savings. Way above and beyond what I really even needed. I was very happy. But if similar-like things happen with the Porsche, I can't see this being worth it for TLG. Regular packaging.... if it is damaged, like Jim's Arocs, (unless you are a collector) most people will not care as long as the actual contents are not damaged. BUT.... if I am paying for the premium packaging, and it comes damaged. You bet they will be receiving a call from me......
LegoCube Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 @Jim, probably the package handling on airline. The way the treat boxes is brutal sometimes. Entertaining view waiting for the plane sometimes.

If, as many have speculated, much of the price of the set is wrapped up in the "premium" packaging, I am kinda fearful for TLG in that they cannot control the shipping. Imagine your 41999 having arrived in a damaged box. Mine arrived in mint condition, so maybe the S&H from stores is better than the reviews sets I received. However, I have seen lot of complaints on Facebook about the same issue lately. The Porsche is meant to deliver a premium experience, but receiving a damaged box is like picking up your brand new 911 GT3 RS....with a fender bender. I'm on the fence on whether to get it day one, or wait to see if other retailers will discount it further down the line. I got £50 off the arocs the other day, which makes the Porsche look very expensive. That's what I call the early adaptor predicament. Get the set early and pay top dollar, or wait for a chance to pick it up for a better price. Can be a tough choice.

Can be a tough choice. I feel like I am in the same position, what is your view on matter? Do you think that the price will drop much after a month or two?
Andy D Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 I feel like I am in the same position, what is your view on matter? Do you think that the price will drop much after a month or two? Where do you get these discounts? Or see price drops. Especially on exclusives only sold by shop@home or in LEGO stores? Andy D
Jim Posted May 13, 2016 Author Posted May 13, 2016 I feel like I am in the same position, what is your view on matter? Do you think that the price will drop much after a month or two? Well, I am from Holland and I think it's one of the countries (with Germany) where you can get LEGO for reasonable prices, if you seek your refuge online. The Arocs is € 200, but I can get it for € 165-170. So, will the price drop? No it won't. The MSRP will be the same for the remainder of it's lifespan. What I can't judge is whether "other stores" also include Amazon, Toy's r Us etc. This will probably affect whether you will find deals online or offline in the future. I doubt that you will find a bargain around the release date though. This means, if you like to get it early, you will have to pay full price. And that's a personal decision, which you need to make yourself I think (but I am not sure, because my opinion is biased) that I would wait till it's available in a LEGO store near me (for me that would be Germany or Belgium) and make a day out of it to go and buy it. On the other hand; I might not be able to resist the urge and order it online on day one. This probably won't help you, but at least I tried
Emmi Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 I'm from Austria and I always get absolutely great discounts on new sets - I bought last years Arocs for 150€ from my personal brick specialist - I will get the Porsche for 240€ there, but of course I have to wait until August 1.

So this set will be available through regular channels, like every other Technic set. That's great news!
AkiyamaWataru Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 So this set will be available through regular channels, like every other Technic set. That's great news! And we have lost info back on the table. It will be sold at the drug stores of Müller as well. (299€, 1.8.2016)
Cwetqo Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 I got confirmation that will be available at "Muller" chain of stores in Germany, Austria and all other countries in which it's present, BUT, the price is supposed to be 350 euro (!?). The source that it's still marked as preliminary, so this may change (I hope it will). Edit: I just saw above that, from another source, price will be 300 euro. Cool!
AkiyamaWataru Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 I asked it at a local Müller-Store :) They confirmed for me they will try to keep 2 of the sets in stock at all times.
tripletschiee Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 The german car magazin "AutoBild" has it already: Arrrghh..... more then 500 pages and 850 steps...
