Well, everyone is talking about how this is so dissapointing, but it seems that everyone is forgetting that this seems to be more of a show model, plus I think that even if it doesn't function great, it's still worth it for the parts, imo

I don't know of it's mentiont yes or no, but on the engine deck at the rear, there are 2 orange curved panels. They look like 3x7 or 3x9 or so. They seem new to me?

Anyway, I got a picture of a orange GT3RS from Instagram, Carswithourlimits. Seems legit. It is a screen capture from a low quality pic, so low quality.

First this set was a must buy for me, but I revised my mind, And I found €300,- a lot of money. A short list of what a 15 year old kid could do with it:

-Buy 150 snacks from the cantine at school;

-Visit the supermarket like about 60 times;

-Buy all albums from Coldplay and Hans Zimmer (yeah call me a freak)

-Save it up just for something in your boring adultlife.

But as I guess I am one of the younger people here at EB, you don't all have to worry about how many "frikandelbroodjes" you could've bought. The list wasn't made to hold you back or something, I just wanted to share my story .

enough storytime, kids must go to sleep now. :sadnew:

Great set, some flaws but it doesn't matter.

EDIT: Isn't the rear wheel steering just suspension geometry? heard that somewhere. Also 1.5 degrees is something you can even do with the slack of the pieces.

LEGO fits this line perfectly!

Just leaves room for people to improve on what has been done.

Who knows, maybe TLG intentionally don't make a perfect model.

Sorry but no. I pay twice the amount of money than I would pay for its parts, then I expect that it just works acceptably out of the box. Why should I improve it, when I can design my own models?

Taking the "mod it if you don't like it" argument to to extreme: Lego just would take some pictures of the model and say "reverse engineer it, fokkers!!!1"

Seriously, this model is enormous. They designed a new part for the gearbox, designed a new, more realistic wheel hub, only to have a model that's virtually unplayable (no HOG, but actually doesn't matter since it doesn't really steer).

One more thing about the steering angles. When driving over 50km/h you must be a very experienced driver to make use of more steering angle than what seems to be offered by the Porsche right now. (For the ones who need a good reason to accept the limited angles  )

But you don't push this Lego model with 50 km/h. Basically, with a Lego push-and-play car, you can mostly play parking.

EDIT: and if it's a display only model, than there's totally no point making it Technic. I seriously feel that the whole concept of the model is not fully thought through. Not precise enough for a scale model, but hardly playable at the same time, because it's optimized only for one feature (that has maybe the smallest effect on playability of a push-and-pay car).

Yes. I am angry.

You're right Lipko. I don't understand TLG now. Why new parts if they are not fully used?

I can't wait for proper mods with both axles steered and maybe PF added.

...more realistic wheel hub...

What is more realistic about the wheel hubs? They can be extended more easily because of the axle holes, but does that make them more realistic?

Agreed.

Maybe Lipko meant rims with more realistic offset.

yup.

Okay, the rims make the offset better, of course. For a moment I was thinking/hoping the hubs would have improved after all...

Well, I personally don't even like 'frikandelbroodjes', so it's certainly not a problem for me :tongue:

Regarding the steering: if it is as small as it seems to be, that's a big drawback (imho). Even if, as some people stated, it's meant as a show model, it's still a big negative point. I mean, why put all that technical detail in for example the gearbox and pedals behind the wheel, and then include such a horrible turning radius.

i did some math using max steering angle(24.4o) and wheelbase (2456mm).

i want to know the turning radius.

bovenaanzicht+van+een+auto.jpg

using some goniometric rules i calculated that r(line going through left-wheels) = 5413mm. Because we used a 3-digit value to calculate it. our answer must me 3-digits as well.

that makes 5.41m. But this is not the turning radius. The width of the car is 1,880m. 5.41+1,88=7,29meter. the values are true, but i don't know if i calculated the correct thing.

anyways. lets take turning radius and divide it by length.

on the real car, that is 7290/4545=1.60396

on the lego car it must me about the same.

I don't know the length but we know, that the turning radius of the 42056 must me about 1.6 times the length of the car to match the real thing.

I wouldnt complain if the turning-circle is smaller, but i do if it is bigger.

And this is an image with a 24o steering angle. Taking slack into account this will probably not fit.

The new hub also gives us the ability to add our own Ackerman geometry as well as being able to use it on a very small steered and driven live axle without having to use rare pieces to connect to the ball joints. The arms are offset to one side by 1m, which should make it easier to route the steering rack around the differential.

Even if this hub has the same slack as the 42000 hubs, it is superior.

You're not paying for that. You are in fact paying for a 100EUR fancy coffee table book, a (what TLG calls it) a fancy box (still crap compared to what they did in the 80's), a very expensive license and a so-called 'authentic design' which we all know by now is just pure bull

'Cept for the new way of changing gears, this set has NOTHING new. They could at least have made some new parts os there's no cheap megablocks rubber bands right in your bleedin' face!

Disregarding the new parts, it looks like a poor MOC made ages ago, sorry

I really think TLG should have put those 3k parts into a CREATOR set that actually would have looked like the real thing (think F40 but with 3k parts). This set is going on AFOL shelves anyway, so who cares about a fancy gearbox and a book? No HOG means no play value, so TLG did indeed think about that

The Technic UCS is actually the BWE, but no coffee table book, fancy box and plague, it's a whole lot damd cheaper to boot

I told you folks you would get dissappointed by the Porsche, but you wouldn't listen

Cheers,

Ole

Honestly, the Porsche appears to me to be intended for display, so I don't really mind the flaws based on that.

Also, if I end up getting it at some point, I'll be using it for parts either way.

I understand why some of you are disappointed though.

I must add that the expense of the "coffee table book" doesn't make much sense to me, seeing as it's the car/parts people buy this set for anyway.

My wife said earlier today that she is getting 6 of these to part out for her bricklink store.. I am getting 2, one to actually build(since my wife normally builds the sets) and one for parts..

Ah, true, they're also visible on the picture where the hood is open :

That's disappointing. :sceptic:

You can also see them very clearly in the designer video with the light tan 3/4 pins inserted... I watched the video again and actually the steering doesn't seem too bad.. If the hubs were not so wobbly maybe they could have gone to a 1/2 pin instead for a bit more turning..

At first I thought that was a typo. Actually seems accurate.
