I can't remember if I've said it before, but I'll say it again: I'm not sure if Lego knew who they were aiming this set as. A lot of us Technic fans dislike the lack of functionality, like the poor steering angle, and lack of full gearbox and rear wheel steering, and the model fans dislike the fact that it's Technic. I don't know how likely this is, but I feel as if Lego wanted this set to be one way, but Porsche wanted it to be another way, and that's why we have these compromises. Also, I've noticed something odd. In the designer video, some of the axle joiners are the new smooth 3L type, but in some build photos, those same joiners are replaced with the 2L ones.

Yep.And I am really puzzled with this. :/
Obviously this is the Fast & Furious version of the Porsche that allows the driver to continue to accelerate while driving backwards..

Seriously though, I was expecting reverse to just be it's own gear that bypassed the rest of the gearing in the transmission and went straight from the engine to the rear wheels..

I reckon its a cross between a forklift and a messerschmitt KR200, though it got its four slots in both directions by firing up the donk backward.

And Anio, I am just as puzzled as you.. I guess they just decided to go with what was most practical for them..

Well its mostly marketed towards "wo this looks like the real thing" and "heyyy the cylinders in the engine actually move" and not to "is the steering geometry like in the real car? Is it a real Boxer engine?"

Calling it an Ultimate is very misleading, since it definetly isn't ultimate from accuracy to the real thing standpoint. But is it big? Yes. Does it look good? Yes. Is it too expensive? Yes.

Its defently not a day 1 buy for me. I'll wait for reviews first, and then wait for a slight price drop IF i'm even gonna buy it. I don't feel like supporting such a marketing strategy.

Reminds me of a quote from the movie 'Cars', while Mater is driving backwards, he says: I like to see in the rearview mirrors where I'm going, not where I've been ...

I built mine last night, pretty cool set. Much larger than I expected, would have thought from pics it was about 25% the size it is. Well worth its retail price imo. I'll share a review when I write one, since most sites will probably be focusing on reviewing the build, the parts, etc, I'll be reviewing it side to side with the real car to give a little bit of a twist on set reviews. :)

In the Netherlands we had backwards driving races with cars that had continuously variable transmission   This transmission was also fully operational when driving backwards. It must be over 35 years ago.

I saw your picture on Facebook. How comes that you are allowed to publish pictures before the 1st of June? And how did you get it?

I was looking for someone with a real GT3 RS, so I could take some pictures with it. I have not succeeded and since time is running out, I will most likely fail in my endeavour. Looking forward to your comparison. By the looks of your avatar, you seem to have something with sportscars

And how does AutoBild come to publish details before the officially set deadline (as far we were informed)?

Beside the technical issues, I think this move makes AutoBild and/or Lego morally questionable.

All are equal, but some are more equal... as usual happens in history of mankind. Very much dissapointing.

AutoBild most likely struck a deal with TLG and Porsche. There's no real surprise for me. That Meiko already posted an image does surprise me.

When the Volvo came out, I could post my review two weeks early, so these exclusive deals tend to happen.

This might be the case, but also generates negative feelings (at least for me), especially in the AFOL scene.

I see, they can gather more clients from new markets, but meanwhile they kick the fans. Creating money is more important than loyality and respect.

I formule my words on purpose overreacted, this is not big deal in our daily life, but if it is driven as above mentioned... well this is not the way where humanity should evolve, wrong priorities are misleading in long-term relations (demoralize, and create ego-centric). Sorry for off-topic sociology comment. :classic:

Thanks for reminding me how old I am

I would like to see someone do this in the Porsche and drive backwards with 350 km/h.

I am not sure how this would kick the fans?! You get to see some video footage before the 1st of June. Isn't that a positive thing?

I see the facts in different aspects simultaneously, so I have ambivalent feelings - but we should not go in it, I will not.

Let's keep this forum fun, I also come here to fill up my soul, and waiting patiently for the reviews from Sariel and You.:excited::thumbup:

Haven't been told not to share pictures, so I don't see a problem with it. Reviews are allowed to go live at the time of set release, but didn't say anything about mere photos :classic: I've got LEGO employees in my friends list who have posted pics since the set was announced so shouldn't be a problem. And yes, my work revolves around high end cars so it comes in handy knowing a lot of Porsche owners for this.

What pics did you see that had you thinking that it was 1/4 of the size? You got the set for free from Lego, correct?

I was thinking the same... what about trolling a bit, and make a B model contest.

That would be a good reason to buy the set after all

I will have a head start as I won't build the A model. I will probably be building B models from this until the next "UCS" car comes out.

I know the steering issue is a big draw-back for many. Admittedly, it is for me too. I still see myself getting this set. I think many will work on improving it..... and perhaps that will be one of the first improvements.

One other question I had though in terms of its modify-abilty, is if it will as easily modified as other past Lego set?. Don't get me wrong, AFOLs will modify and find a way to really improve this set, but I don't think it will be a as easy as sets in the past. I mean, this is no 8070. 42056 is so much more dense. Perhaps not compact (it is huge) but fairly dense. IMO, I don't think that modifications to steering, etc. will be as easy as they have been for some models in the past.

For an ultimate set its pretty basic really. I can sense this set getting some really good mods to make it more realistic and playable at the same time..did the Lego team miss something if we can see these mods and they didn't or chose not to do them. Like I'm sure everyone here I cant wait to get my greedy hands on it and improve it further.
