With one sentence: Good Lego marketing... :)

I understand TLG's marketing, but I wonder why everyone is already sharing content?!

I really wonder why the entire world is already sharing images, videos, etc.

Partial publishing of unboxing videos and pics was allowed by TLG (by Kim on LAN) today. I will PM you complete statement.

Because people are wired to share. Whence else the success of sites like Facebook? We are made for sharing. That's how we got here.

While I dislike such embargos in general, I think that hey have some function here. Without them it would be "bloodbath" in fight between various sites on who will publish review first (they always figh for bandwidth and such things bring a lot of it). That would bring us bad reviews (you can not do good one in short time, at least not the kind that Jim or Sariel do) and unfair advantage to those who are lucky that post delivers to thema faster. As it is now, there is enough time to do reviews in normal way and publish with other.

I do however agree that some things (unboxing, teasers and such things) could be published in advance, but with strict rules.

The packaging is really nice with the box that lifts off the top and you see 4 new parts right away (the wheels) which I think is a small nod to the still far better mid 90s packing like 8880, where you get to see all the parts without having to open the box, just lift the lid. This model is slowly growing on me, it really does look gorgeous and I really do love those new wheels and arches, but the arches aren't all that reusable in MOCs in orange and there is still that completely unrealistic geabox/steering/suspention and poor performance/weak differential and CV joints. I dunno man. It's entirely style and no substance. It is growing on me as I am beginning to appreciate it more for what it is and not the missed fantastic opporunity it could have been to finally give us the reasitic mechanics of a car, but right now I still don't see me buying it.

I somewhat get the idea of being the first to review something. But I will certainly have a look at many reviews, and quality of the writing and photos and understanding the substance are much more important to me, than reading the first ever review, the second it comes out. In that sense, I think it's not that big a deal if someone gets a jump start on their review or shares photos early.

You know, with everyone talking about the bad functions, I think I'm going to build the body, and just stick it on a 9398 chassis with some XL motors, and just be done with the gearboxes and steering angles. I kind of think it would be hilarious if everyone just took this, and treated it as we treat the unimog, and just cover it with atatchments, and stick motors in it and add PTOs and pneumatic systems, just to screw with TLG.

I will do the same. I will probably modify and rebuild it until the orange comes off the parts! And it does not come off easily... But that's the genius idea behind Lego, and I think they'll be happy to see what the community comes up with.

Let me correctly phrase what I meant; I don't understand why peope are ALLOWED to share pictures.

It has come to my understanding that TLG poorly communicated what is and what is not allowed to publish. Apparently showing the unboxing is allowed, but not sharing any other pictures. In my opinion, the embargo on this model is going South in a terrible way.

So the gearbox will house 4 modes of gear ratio (in:out):

- 1:1 (16z : 16z)

- 1:0.33 (8z : 24z)

- 1:0.75 (20z : 12z)

- 1:1.33 (12z : 20z)

I can't help but feel 42056 just is a big 42048 Race Kart :sceptic:

So it really looks like we get a 4D+N+4R gearbox

Which is required if you want to powerslide the car going backwards...we should have reversible seats, like the ones found in some japanese trains

which is required since you have to drive home backwards because the steering angle won't let you turn around the car...

It all makes sense now

The new wheel hubs were designed to hold the brake "calipers" yet they're just bricks with stickers on them. If you're gonna go through all that trouble to design new hubs why not just make the brakes a bit more authentic looking?

Agree 100% The blocky looking calipers look bad. The stickers are not going to solve that problem.

Here's the embedded version if anyone wants

Just finished watching, interesting packaging, putting bags in boxes in a box. Odd they'd print a specific "module" on the box, but have multiple modules in the box, and still have all the bags labeled the same, confusing...

Now who is this guy? Did Lego send sets out to everyone with a Youtube account?

The guy is Tommy Williamson. He is the creator of http://bricknerd.com/ and is also a LUG ambassador which might explain why he was send a set

First "unboxing" :

Don't want to nag more about this set, but 4 boxes is your "Porsche module" design Lego?

1 for the chassis

2 for body (or maybe partial chassis)

1 for interior

That's just me going by what's on the boxes and making a guess. The modular design of the Porsche was one fo the few things I like(d) about this set and was expecting a similar experience to the 8448 with alot of small boxes that build each section of the car (chassis, engine, gearbox, suspension, body work)

I was expecting smaller and especially more boxes. With each box containing only one of the following things:

Chassis

Engine

Gearbox

Suspension (preferably rear and front seperate)

Bodywork

Instead the entire chassis, engine, gearbox and suspension looks to be all dumped into one box. This looks pretty lazy to me, especially with the 8448 in the back of my mind.

The book might follow the assembly steps of chassis>suspension>gearbox>engine like the real factory most likely would, but it's not the same when the whole load of parts for the whole base of the car are on the table.
