@sariel the release day is coming up, so just wondering, maybe you could show it in the review or a seperate vid or something, can the power puller tires fit on these rims? Or vice versa, just curious, would suck if these rims are basically obsolete...

Several pages back someone showed the rims compared to the PP wheels and the Porsche wheels are larger in Diameter.

Porsche rims are the same diameter as power puller rims, but about 2-3 mm narrower.

EDIT

Sorry, I was incorrect. They are equal by maximum inner circles diameter (that hold tire from sliding inside). But outside visible circle is larger on Porsche.

let me ask you guys this, if the set was €200 would you still complain?

i belive the bitching is purely based on the price of the set, not the lack of functions or steering geometry etc.

For me the price is not the problem. Yes, I understand a decent coffeetable book cost loads (really loads, my parents work in the publishing industry so I know quite a bit about that), but it really looks like a mess, imho. Rubberbands right in my face? I think TLG should have put in a normal instructionbook and come up with some cool parts for shifting gears. Also, the highly <insert that tiresome argument> colour vomit has no place in a +16 sets. does not have much functions (which is what Technic is ALL about)

It also has very little do with how the actual Porsche funtions

IMHO this should have been a very cool 300EUR CREATOR set. Completely true to the actual car, with loads of nice details. It's just going on AFOL shelves anyway for display. A really nice brickbuild version would look much cooler that this paneled monster. No one is going to care about suspension, gearbox etc when it's just a shelf queen

TLG can do good, They seem to have made very cool Technic models this year (I mean the models yet to be released), but this set is a bummer on so many levels

But that's just my opinion

Cheers,

Ole

The post showing the wheels have been removed but I am certain the Powerpuller wheels were wider (deeper) but smaller in Diameter than the Porsche wheel.

Breaking the clips off fo the 3L driving ring is just a temporary solution until I get the sliding connectors from the Porsche.. The gearbox that I am building uses the larger driving rings. They are easier to work with since they are odd in length. Not to mention that using the 2L driving ring with a smooth connector is considered a somewhat "illegal" method..
Breaking the clips of 3L driving ring seem to be more "illegal" that using standard parts that actually work :innocent: . And as SNIPE mentioned, that odd 1L "liftarm" can do the trick making construction in odd length.

I must have missed it, what exactly is this issue with the clips on the driving ring everyone's talking about?

And what exactly is this "major issue"?

There is a video about the packaging on their facebook-site:

https://www.facebook...21136988272391/

I am a little surprised by the amount of manual labour involved, but then again, it's a unique type of box for TLG. Not worth the investment for machines I guess for a set that will most likely be in production for 2 years (like other Technic sets) give or take.

I liked the Auto-Bild video, even the orange was growing on me (looked darker at times in that video).

The first thing I did when I had finished building 8860/8875/8880 was to push the car down to check the suspension (which was followed with lots of "ohh, ahh, wauw, how cool is that dad!?") and THEN put it into gear and go racing on the floor

I know the Porsche has the right parts for suspension, but if it only has one stud of travel, the inherent slack in LEGO parts would suffice without all those fancy parts, imho

But maybe Anio is dissapointed with the bag as it cannot hold a few beers, I mean tools.

LOL!

idk about anio but I wouldn't really consider the subpar suspension travel a serious issue. It has to be gearbox related...

Also remember before when he said he had to confirm with Jim and sariel about this "issue" before speaking more about it on the boards? So the fact he's been vocal about it could only mean that Jim and sariel have also run into this flaw ( assuming they replied, that is)....

First off, I said "Breaking the clips off fo the 3L driving ring is just a temporary solution until I get the sliding connectors from the Porsche.."

And then Snipe said "No need to break the notches off the 3L driving ring, just push a 1x1 lifftarm into each end of the driving ring, works just fine unless im missing something."

Now how is the old driving ring going to work like this..? How will it slide into and engage gears and rotate the axle..? And how will it work with the red clutch gears I am using when they are not compatible with each other..?

Unless you both are assuming that I am just using this as a place holder and not for an actual functioning purpose..

My whole point was that it is much easier if you want to experiment with the sliding 3L connectors NOW by breaking the clips out of the 3L driving rings instead of trying to sand down the humps on the current white 3L connectors..

No such thing as a 1x1 liftarm, do you mean the 18654 pin connector?

I am assuming that is what he was talking about... Not really sure why they call it a pin connector though.. I use them mostly for spacers..

I must have missed it, what exactly is this issue with the clips on the driving ring everyone's talking about?

And what exactly is this "major issue"?

Lipko asked about sanding the humps down on the current white 3L connectors to replicate the new sliding ones in the Porsche and I told him it is easier to just break the clips off of the driving rings..

I wouldn't mind seeing a demonstration of this myself. I don't think that I've ever seen this technique used before.

I watched the AutoBild video, and I must say I'm a bit underwhelmed by the whole thing.

The problem I have ith the set as a whole is, that after box 1 has been finished, all the rest (box 2, 3 and 4) is just liftarms and panels. So that's 500 steps of clicking beams together.

For a 2700-piece set, it offers little functionality. Yeah, it has a cool gearbox. For the rest, it offers the same as 8865...

The least they could have added, were damped-spring-loaded doors, a foldable roof, some mechanism to move the rear spoiler from the dashboard.

I just feel the set's "technicity" doesn't really justify 2700 parts, and if everything were about the looks, they could better have built a Creator Expert car with Technic inner workings.

Better get 42009, which has a lot more going on for the same piece count, and a lot cheaper. Or if you're into cars, get 42039 or 8070, and mod away :D

I have this wheels on my table. Be sure - they are equal in diameter

opening doors, foldable roof and so on to me are not very important. I don't really want more functionality from a supercar, I want the functionality that's already there to be done better and more authentically with better parts.

Well that wasn't expected. Ihe porsche tyres look like they are lower profile than the silver champ tyres. Is that not the case or is the outer diameter of the tyre smaller?

It's totally possible to modify the model to have 4D + N + R. Assuming the bottom is the 1st-module floor, there are 2 driveshafts going in the model:

- 1 driveshaft goes from the rear differential to the driver handle. This driveshaft is at the 5th-module floor.

- 1 driveshaft goes below the driver handle, through the gear shifting parts, and straight below the boxer engine. This driveshaft is at the 3rd-module floor.

The center of the bottom is thoroughly clear. This means a driveshaft can run through the bottom, and by setting the rear gear in the driver handle linked to a driveshaft at the bottom, we can have 4D + N + R.

The spare 32M axle from 42009 can fit the bottom from the driver handle to the back of the car.

yeah those damped springs used in 8448 are great, they havent been seen since 8297 which is a real shame as they are a great part. 8265 was a superb set....it was the overly expensive on offesive 42030 that should be mocked here.

It's a car. The bodywork is expected to be made with quite a lot of parts. On Pvdb's Koenigsegg, the doors alone are made of around 50 non-functional parts...and on the 3000+ parts of this MOC, most of them are just plain bodywork. Is this MOC disapointing ? Certainly not !

Again it's a car and it's expected to have quite a bit of bodywork parts. And don't forget that what are now called steps were formerly sub-steps of many sub-assemblies, which is not the case anymore.

If the set was €200 i would not complain, because in that case, you get what you paid for. But for €300 we expect a lot more. let me ask you. If you give €100,000 for a random car and you get a VW up, would you complain? I think so, but if you get a Lamborghini, would you still complain? This is of course taken to the extreme, but that is what's going on here. for €300 we expect more than this.

The Porsche IP is not cheap...2700 technic parts are not cheap...and the real retail price of this set is not 300€. I can get it on august 1st for 275€ from my local lego-certified store...in fact, I can pre-order it for that price right now...but I won't be doing that and order it directly from lego...because...well...

A pretty popular Swiss e-shop has the 42056 available on pre-order for 289 CHF, i.e. around €260.

Could you tell me the shop? Shipping from Swiss to save a few € is an option for me
