I've never bought a pneumatic set in all my years. This one stood out for me, it's within my price range, has the bigger pneumatics and other new parts for me. can't wait.

My first pneumatics set was the submarine (many years ago) and just yesterday I finally bought the Arocs ( waiting with high anticipation!!). The Volvo is on my purchase list in second place behind the Claas

Lego often build their models with low part density and they try to push the part cound down. It's common case that custom technic MOCs, while being comparable size to some official model, contain e.g. twice as many parts. Especially with lego system pieces the part cound can increase quickly.

You compare with 8043 which indeed is bigger but contain sizable PF elements and a lot of big parts in general (long 15L beams, giant bucket, big panels...). So eventhough it looks weird, I think 1000+ part count actually can be legit :)

Seriously?! you make it sound like theres nothing under the panels in 8043. Lets have a look:

Packed with gears. But on the other hand, theres actually nothing under the panels and beams on the VOLVO excavator - this for making room for pneumatic switches and hoses. IF the Volvo excavator alone do have the claimed piece count of 1166, then they for sure has overdone black and blue pins just to get a high piece count - i.e connecting every beams together with like 5-10 pins instead of the more normal 2-4.

Seriously.

I didn't say 8043 is hollow. I said that it is OFTEN a reality that technic models are build with rather hollow insides so they look bigger and I suggested that with this Volvo it might be the oposite, more MOC-like case.

Regarding 8043, I only pointed out the PF elements which add up to the volume quite a lot and the big parts which e.g. form the arm, so that one, while being very large, only contain several dozens of parts.

Not sure what drives you crazy so much about this but I assure you that I only suggested some explanation, I don't claim it's 100% true. Maybe your reasoning with every hole pointlessly filled with a pin 'just to get higher piece count' proves correct in the end...

I remember it. It had the airtank. Just the Volvo for me. Perfect price, perfect timing and a good addition for me. Maybe my only set this year, certainly the largest.

Well, i googled some pics of the real one and I haven't saw any orange part, so why Lego put them on their model??? For sure I'm gonna replace them with yellow and black ones ;)

It's relatively new design decision made by Volvo and it will be applied to all Volvo earth moving equipment. If you google some more (for example here) you will find newer excavators and machines which do have the orange handrails and steps. For example:

Shame on me, the pics I've found was maybe old.. must Google better :D :D Anyway I don't like these orange parts even in the real model

Well that switch assembly thingamajig for the PF batterybox is sort of interesting, and is that the first decent look at the new manual pump? I want three of those already.

The older yellow pumps with exposed springs had them too, and there are cases of people motorising them. What I'm particularly interested in though, is the base - whether or not it will still have stud cavities on the bottom.

Can you elaborate what's the significance of whether the bottom is studded or studless makes ? Just curious.

Am I the only who thinks the 4 bars as windshield is like a prison? I'll probably build with only 2,one each side.

The older pump has a single through-hole at the bottom, and the ability to add technic bricks or t-plates can provide extra mounting holes to allow it to be stabilised vertically. If the new pump is completely studless, it would need extra integrated holes or some external bracing to stop it from moving about. I don't know how likely it is that the pump will actually BE studless, but those are the possibilities in the event that it is.

I think it's fine like this, these excavators are often used on breakers yards, demolitions of houses and barns and at recycling plants.

At least here in the Netherlands they are often used for this purpose, not so much for digging.

Was just thinking, would the grabber from the 42006 fit this excavator, if it where converted to pneumatics?

Would be cool on this one, it would look like the crane on a breakers yard.

Well, 42006 was 726 pieces, and this is supposed to be 1116 (I think), so they should be relatively close in size (I think  ).

Not 726, but 720 and not 1116, but 1166. Well, if count pins from back of superstructure to the front of cabin in both excavators, Volvo has 3 pins more.

Tracked excavators have bogger upperstructures most off the tome, the can lift bigger loads being similar in size, but that is because off better stability on tracks.

Okay, I think it's pretty safe to say that we will be getting the 2H sets for review, and I happen to be the one reviewing this unique set. So, do you have any questions which you like me to address?
