Mike S Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 The log of Captain Aiden Coyle. January 26: The Sulky Harlequin is now officially licensed and we have embarked on her maiden voyage. Aboard are eight souls: Professor Miles Woodward from the Royal Society of Navigation and Discovery, John Quin the quartermaster and navigator, Theodore Walsingham a sailor and soldier and also a fine cook, Borden Appleby the ship's carpenter, Giles DeVitt another sailor with medical experience, Will Fletcher the former cabin boy whom I have promoted to boatswain, my wife Amelia, and myself. After restocking in New Terreli, we sailed east towards Berelli but our intelligence on its location was incorrect. However as I was going to turn the ship around and head back to New Terreli, Will called out exclaiming that there was land straight ahead. Upon taking a look with my spyglass, I found the lad was correct but I also discovered another disturbing fact. There seemed to be some sort of large architecture built on the land as well. I could not make out exactly what it was but I was certain it was not a natural formation. We will go ashore tomorrow to investigate this place. END OF ENTRY Not much of a build really but I wanted to show the land as it would first be seen from the ship as it was approached... And an unedited shot of the build: Quote
Vedauwoo Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 That's real nifty right there....I dig both shots....very creative....whatever it is you did! Quote
Blufiji Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Thats a great microbuild/forced perspective. Quote
TitusV Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I don't know what you did to them, but that looks just awesome! Especially the first image is marvellous! Quote
Bregir Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 This is possibly my favourite entry amongst them all so far. The forest and structure looks great in that perspective, and I have to try something similar at some point. I wonder, however, where the stone for that structure came from, on such a small island... The natives must have sailed them there from elsewhere? Or cut out blocks from the coral? Maybe we will know more of this later... What parts did you use to create that island? Is it a transparent plate with yellow underneath? How did you do the green part? I need to know!!! Quote
Puvel Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 That looks amazing! Looking forward to seeing what you’ll discover on the island Quote
Captain Dee Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Now that is one creative challenge entry. I love the micro island - it just looks perfect. The breaks between baseplates are easy to spot in the unedited pic but even so I can't readily identify the plate it's sitting on - a classic pirate island baseplate I assume? Good work overall and nice effect on the edited pic too. Quote

Could be it came from a nearby island. Or perhaps we may never know. I expect a bit of a communication problem if we should meet any natives here. As far as the island, it is just a simple 16x16 classic pirate baseplate like from Sabre Island surrounded by blue baseplates. The rest is green plates and slopes to add some height and grass stems with the 1x1 flower plate in light green. That looks amazing! Looking forward to seeing what you’ll discover on the island Thanks! Hopefully you will soon as the challenge 1a build is finished. Just need to photograph it... blackdeathgr Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Whooot! One of the best photos around! And an example of how a simple microbuild gets superawesome with some photographing skills! Quote
Kai NRG Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Impressive edit! Those stalks look splendid as trees and I really like the micro ziggurat (right?) in the center! Quote
Gideon Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Excellent microscale island, and as I said on Flickr it is a very interesting design to blend the picture of the lego (thus keeping the lego feeling) with the picture of the waves Quote
Elostirion Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Super creative idea and amazing execution. Nothing more to say. Quote
Ayrlego Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) I wanted to show the land as it would first be seen from the ship as it was approached... Well Sir you most definitely succeeded! Great idea and very well executed, I'm not usually a huge fan of micro-scale - but this is seriously great - probably the best microscale I've ever seen! Edited January 31, 2016 by Ayrlego Quote
