LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Cargo Crane Hello everyone, after seeing the Lego set 60052 from reality, during a Lego event, I was amazed by the potential of this train stuff! This new crane is able to handle the 6 studs wide containers not unloadable with the old crane set 4555. Unsatisfied about the size of the original model: too low, not wide enough and with a short operational range, I've made my personal enhanced version! That's all! Quote
Dutchiedoughnut Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 That's a good looking crane and steam engine! (I must've missed the topic for that engine, oops!). I would love to mod my crane so it'll be remote controlled, but I have yet to work out how exactly. Shouldn't be overly hard though! Quote
ALCO Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Oh!!! I just got a second one of this set! That's a great idea!! Quote
THERIZE Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Nice, I do want to see the reactions of the crane workers when that steam locomotive arrived:) That's a good looking crane and steam engine! (I must've missed the topic for that engine, oops!). I would love to mod my crane so it'll be remote controlled, but I have yet to work out how exactly. Shouldn't be overly hard though! I think it would be possible with having the battery stationary in the 'office' and 2 micromotors in the moving crane bit itself. One drives 2 wheels (the wheels would be horizontal so they move the crane itself against the rail like guide wheels used on monorais. The others is coupled up to the wire. But the pillars that hold eveything up could be a lot harder. I'm at least sure you'd definitely need a few extension cables. Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 I love this MOD! Makes me want to enlarge mine to handle double stack container trains! Quote
bricks n bolts Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 This is a great idea. Had just bought the cargo station but have yet to build it, now I can see a lot can be done by adding a yellow aframe piece, will hold off and shamelessly copy Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted February 1, 2016 Author Posted February 1, 2016 Thank you all for the kind words! I'm happy to share an easy project that could be replicated! Quote
Man with a hat Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Now we can get some work done! Simple expansion idea but very well done. I alway feel a lot of LEGO sets can be easily expanded to enhance it. Nice to see it done properly. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 Well done, as usually, Lego Train. I alway feel a lot of LEGO sets can be easily expanded to enhance it. Nice to see it done properly. Thanks for the (too) kind words ...you're always welcome! Quote
MGCJerry Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Looking great. I have done the exact same thing with my 60052. I was debating whether or not if 2 cranes would be better, so I opted for a single large crane that spans 2 tracks like yours. I've also made the "office" bigger and on the 2nd floor and have setup a small warehouse downstairs. I do like your hook much better than the standard setup. It gives me some ideas. :) Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 A second floor? I thought the same thing but I wanted to focus my attention on the crane ...however I'd like to see your work! Quote
Feuer Zug Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Nice work. The rebuild looks good. I like how you've got two tracks under it. Anyway, I've left my little station the same and built an bigger version elsewhere so I can have two intermodal facilities. Quote
Riley-NZL Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 I like it! I have this set and 100% agree it's a bit small to be usable. If I was to do something like this, I'd probably leave it at one track one, and leave more room for trucks, and containers to be stacked. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted February 28, 2016 Author Posted February 28, 2016 I'm glad you like it ...this is an easy upgrade Quote
Riley-NZL Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Did you buy a second set to make it, or just use/buy extra parts? Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted February 29, 2016 Author Posted February 29, 2016 Just extra parts... Quote
MGCJerry Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Sorry for the delay LEGO Train 12 Volts, I didnt have the trains setup anymore so I had to resassemble some of it to show. The original layout had 2 spurs off the mainline leading to my cargo depot. Also off the mainline was another spur leading to the Train Station (60050). The office needs to be relocated to another plate to leave the area more open but I'm limited on space, plates, budget and time to do anymore. LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted March 6, 2016 Author Posted March 6, 2016 Oooh lovely work! I like your second deck and the driving cab ...I just suggest to improve your hook as I did (set n. 4514) Quote
MGCJerry Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Thanks Most definitely need to redo the hook. Its play value is zero and aggravation value is 100%. When moving cargo, I didn't want to have to touch it when I was a kid and it still holds true as an AFOL. Before I repack the depot, I'll redo the hook like yours while I have my technic parts out. ;) Quote
