Cargo Crane

Hello everyone,

after seeing the Lego set 60052 from reality, during a Lego event, I was amazed by the potential of this train stuff!

This new crane is able to handle the 6 studs wide containers not unloadable with the old crane set 4555. :sceptic:

Unsatisfied about the size of the original model: too low, not wide enough and with a short operational range, I've made my personal enhanced version! :classic:

That's a good looking crane and steam engine! (I must've missed the topic for that engine, oops!).

I would love to mod my crane so it'll be remote controlled, but I have yet to work out how exactly. Shouldn't be overly hard though!

Nice, I do want to see the reactions of the crane workers when that steam locomotive arrived:)

I think it would be possible with having the battery stationary in the 'office' and 2 micromotors in the moving crane bit itself. One drives 2 wheels (the wheels would be horizontal so they move the crane itself against the rail like guide wheels used on monorais. The others is coupled up to the wire. But the pillars that hold eveything up could be a lot harder. I'm at least sure you'd definitely need a few extension cables.

Looking great. I have done the exact same thing with my 60052. I was debating whether or not if 2 cranes would be better, so I opted for a single large crane that spans 2 tracks like yours. I've also made the "office" bigger and on the 2nd floor and have setup a small warehouse downstairs.

I do like your hook much better than the standard setup. It gives me some ideas. :)

Nice work. The rebuild looks good. I like how you've got two tracks under it. Anyway, I've left my little station the same and built an bigger version elsewhere so I can have two intermodal facilities.

I like it! I have this set and 100% agree it's a bit small to be usable. If I was to do something like this, I'd probably leave it at one track one, and leave more room for trucks, and containers to be stacked.

Sorry for the delay LEGO Train 12 Volts, I didnt have the trains setup anymore so I had to resassemble some of it to show.

The original layout had 2 spurs off the mainline leading to my cargo depot. Also off the mainline was another spur leading to the Train Station (60050). The office needs to be relocated to another plate to leave the area more open but I'm limited on space, plates, budget and time to do anymore.

Thanks

Most definitely need to redo the hook. Its play value is zero and aggravation value is 100%. When moving cargo, I didn't want to have to touch it when I was a kid and it still holds true as an AFOL. Before I repack the depot, I'll redo the hook like yours while I have my technic parts out. ;)
