The ban is stupid. Rules in a school over use of them is not stupid. However, to say that every piece used belongs to everyone is stupid. I also noticed in the video how they spliced footage of an AFOL train event with the footage. "Children built buildings like these." No, not exactly. If they're going to use that kind of footage, then they need to at least specify where it came from.

If they cited their sources and actually said things in context it wouldn't be pop journalism. And without pop journalism and media slander we wouldn't have the awesomeness of teh Daily Show or the Colbert Report! Can you imagine how horrible the 21st century would be without the Colbert Report *vader* !!

Wow.

First, my thanks to sinner for guiding me right to this thread. I didn't know this had happened and was very interested in reading all the thoughts on it...

I distinctly remember my younger brother and I "searching for the best pieces". It was frustrating and fun at the same time. At times, we also took turns (1 for you, 1 for me, etc, etc). Now, my own children argue over certain pieces and trade with each other for ones they want. They get too out-of-hand and away the Lego goes!

I at least hope the teachers used the "town" as a reinforcement for those exhibiting appropriate behavior

I don't get Fox where I live but isn't the colbert report the show where the guy invites people to respectfully tell their point of view and subsequently literally tells them to shut up if they deviate from his right wing thinking? :-D Don't even see the point in a debate if you've already made up your mind about the other guy and refuse to listen. :-/

I quite like this topic as it's the only one I've encountered so far in which politics can be openly discussed without ripping each other's haeds off, hell without even insulting one another. All political systems are based on a certain philosophy, following certain reasoning. All try to (in theory at least) achieve what's best for society though all do it in different ways. The same reasoning with different values in mind can lead to quite opposing systems. Doest take away the fact that you can learn something from it. If people in a political debate would sit down and listen to one another, as opposed to being obsessed with winning, the outcome would almost certainly be better for society as a whole.

I am annoyed that I have played a part in reviving this really old issue. I am closing this the core story was old even when this was first posted and it has been discussed to death months ago. If any staff member disagrees feel free to re-open it.
