kjm161 Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Welcome to my Museum of Civilization. I wanted a place for all of my historical CMFs and thought a museum would be the best place. The former Canadian Museum of Civilization (now the Canadian Museum of History) is one of my favourite museums that had great displays that included people in costume. The ground floor has a First Nations exhibit with totem pole, and indigenous peoples from Central and South American as well as the Pacific Islands. On the other side of this level is a dinosaur display and although technically not part of civilization it is a nod to the Canadian Museum of Nature dinosaur exhibit. The dinosaur in the front hall reminds me of Sue at the Field Museum in Chicago. The second floor includes dioramas from Japan (with my rendition of the famous “The Great Wave Off Kanagawa” wood block print), historical Europe, and the Middle East. The top floor houses the ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian civilizations and a gem display. I had made a previous MOC that I was not happy with, so I thought I would enlarge it on a 48x48 stud plate. This allowed for a more open and detailed interior. You can see a few more pictures on my flickr page. Hope you enjoy. 20160211_100217 by Karen Metz, on Flickr 20160211_100237 by Karen Metz, on Flickr 20160210_144106 by Karen Metz, on Flickr 20160207_115721 by Karen Metz, on Flickr 20160211_100424 by Karen Metz, on Flickr 20160211_095521 by Karen Metz, on Flickr 20160207_115239 by Karen Metz, on Flickr 20160211_095545 by Karen Metz, on Flickr 20160210_135546 by Karen Metz, on Flickr 20160210_135811 by Karen Metz, on Flickr 20160210_135303 by Karen Metz, on Flickr 20160210_135518 by Karen Metz, on Flickr 20160210_135222 by Karen Metz, on Flickr 20160211_095744 by Karen Metz, on Flickr Quote
GunwitchUK Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 THat is one impressive build, love the detailing and layout. Well done Quote
TheLegoDr Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Love the Wave art print. Nice work! Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 This is absolutely gorgeous! I really like the china section with those trans-clear panels! Epic work! Quote
Palixa And The Bricks Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 That's an impressive museum with lots of great displays. I like the First Nations and indigenous peoples exhibits most. I also like the area on the ouside around the main entrance with the trees and benches. Quote
kjm161 Posted February 12, 2016 Author Posted February 12, 2016 Thanks for the kind words everyone. I had fun with the cheese slopes and used all the blues that I had to create the wave. Coming up with a somewhat realistic totem pole design that fit the space was harder than anticipated. Each of my kids like different sections of the museum as well so I am happy that different people like different exhibits. I like doing the interiors of buildings as much as the exteriors. Quote
KlodsBrik Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Lovely build and im so digging the idea. Some nice details throughout the whole MOC. Great work ! Quote
RoddyMac Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Great building. Does it have a bit of ghost problem? 'You would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those meddling kids!' Quote
kjm161 Posted February 13, 2016 Author Posted February 13, 2016 It could have a ghost problem, good catch, but the real reason is I tried using fleshies for the patrons and I don't have too many of them. Quote
alois Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Isn't the Tower Bridge a set that just screams for moccing? The first 10214 I bought I never even built, I immediately used all those really useful bricks for my mocs. Quote
kjm161 Posted February 13, 2016 Author Posted February 13, 2016 It is. My kids got it for my birthday for just that purpose. A wonderful present that keeps on giving. And I still have hundreds of tan cheese slopes for more MOCs. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Lovely exterior, but the building really came to life for me when I saw the extremely detailed interior The sections of the museum based on different time frames are a clever approach, and nicely shown by the different minifigs and other details Quote
Gabor Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Wow! Great idea and a very nice result from it! I really like the interior! Quote
