Norro Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 I actually think the mixture of aged bricks might look cool in a statue. I've always saved my yellowed pieces with that in mind. As to the colour, I'd assume white is for decor issues in the church. Lego tones are not very good for capturing skin pigment. I don't know what colour I would use to capture a middle eastern man? I wouldn't want myself done in white, not only would it be a poor fit in realism terms, but I'd hate to suffer the indignity of yellowing X-D ;-) God Bless, Nathan Quote
Vader Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Look at the end of the day the statue is white because most statues to do with jesus are made in white, the catholic church sees it as a holy colour. It has nothing to do with the colour of that persons skin, lego is just copying nothing more nothing less. So lets now just discuss the statue itself and nothing else. Quote
xwingyoda Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 G why do I have a feeling of beeing a superintendant in a 4t(h grade schoolyard :-| Each time an interesting discussion can arise on politics, religion, its always polluted by flaming and harsh immature comments and this is totally pissing me off big time !! Like Vader said, next shitty comment will resulst in a nice one way trip to good old banned county !! *yoda* Quote
Batbrick Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 G why do I have a feeling of beeing a superintendant in a 4t(h grade schoolyard :-| Each time an interesting discussion can arise on politics, religion, its always polluted by flaming and harsh immature comments and this is totally pissing me off big time !! ___________ Okay, I'll just discuss the statue :-) Do you think that it can be achieved? (the statue that is! :-D ) I mean, unless there is one serious Lego collector in their ranks do you think they will be able to get that many bricks just from their collections? :-/ It would be a sight to behold though, I just wonder if it is possible..... That said, using yellowed and mouldy deformed peices has always been fine with me. My Batvig uses yellowed trans window peices to create a grimy atmosphere, and I like making abandoned buildings out of all my bricks with bite marks in them (don't ask! :-$ ) The yellowing of peices would give it a wonderful, antique look like many churches around my city of Launceston, which are old and have bricks differing in shades. My point is that the poor quality of the expected bricks might be a good thing, like some creations I have seen which make good use of this kind. Anyone else like to use yellowed bricks? :-$ Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
trooperdavinfelth Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Well, to be honest, I don't have any yellowed bricks! :-P But I personally think it would be faster to make a giant SAH Pick-a-Brick order in which everyone donates a little to the church for the cause. That way, everyone would be giving something to the statue and no one would be worse off for it! :-) Quote
hollisbrick Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 maybe it wont be made out of bricks. It could be a giant jesus mini fig?? Quote
Starwars4J Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 maybe it wont be made out of bricks. It could be a giant jesus mini fig?? Did you see the first post...about collecting bricks...and the number of bricks, and all that? :-| Quote
Zarkan Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 (edited) Very interesting! I never thought about using legos this way, but it is pretty neat! It's about on the level of that giant minifig scale thousand seat lego church somebody made a while back (dozens of friends and family keep sending an email about that to me because I'm a lego fan. X-D ) Edited November 11, 2007 by Grevious Quote

Opproperaar Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 This is quite a cool project. Might get more kids to go to church :-D It reminds me of something I saw on CNN the other day about an artist (a catholic person) who made a Jesus statue out of chocolate. You have no idea how much I wanted to eat him. ... Oops, that came out wrong. 8-| :-$ Quote
Asuka Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 You have no idea how much I wanted to eat him. But when I remember right from my Roman Catholic youth, this is exaxtly what we were supposed to do.... 8-| ;-) Mhm, chocolate.... :-D Perhaps a LEGO Jesus statue is indeed a fine thing. IMHO in yellow that is, especially.... Because I was always glad that all MFs were the same, without differences proper to all human beings. And I Quote
natelite Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 hmm, i'm kinda late to this discussion but noticed one thing about the presumption of jesus being white. you know, jesus was a 1st century hebrew, which is more likely olive in complexion. there is nothing in historical text which indicated that jesus has any outstanding or extraordinary facial or racial feature. so needless to say, he looked just like any other jewish ppl in jerusalem at the time. when the romans adopted christianity in the 3rd century, everything took a roman twist. i am only quoting the historical fact, not quoting the religious agenda. so, if you think jesus is white, think again. michaelangelo and da vinci were heavily influenced by the papal/european art at the time. they have not met him personally nor were any of their paintings historically accurate. he may or may not have long hair. he may or may not have a fair complexion. again, these are just facts. not trying to stir contraversies or unrest. just thought ppl should know the truth/facts. *y* Quote
Vader Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 THIS IS A DAMN LEGO SITE AND ITS A SHAME SOME MEMBERS DONT REMEMBER THAT MORE. What part of that don't people understand? >:-( I don't care what colour jesus was, if someone wants to talk about it then i suggest they get the hell out of here and find another site. Anymore talk of religion by any members here will result in a visit to the chamber, or perhaps i'll just straight ban as warnings seem to be ignored. Quote
natelite Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Ops. Sorry vader. I was just listing facts. But if you say it was a discussion on religion, then I'll keep quiet. :-/ Quote
Vader Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Ops. Sorry vader. I was just listing facts. But if you say it was a discussion on religion, then I'll keep quiet. :-/ I'm afraid where religion is concerned it's best to stay far away from it on this site. Quote
