r5-j2 Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 I popped into my Lego store last Friday just to have a catch up and see if it was worth spending £50 to get the promo figure... which I didn't end up doing. I was chatting to one of the staff there who said that when Slave 1 was released they had a queue outside the door waiting and they sold out their stock on day one. They've since only sold 1 of the 75098 while it's been in stock... even the staff there look at it as a bad set, which he actually stated. It's part of their job to be positive about sets but they're finding it very difficult with this one. I think all the arguments have been made on this set... I've sold all of my previous Hoth sets, keeping the figures, but I still don't feel I can pull the trigger at this price. It doesn't help, as Lobot said, that Ewok Village is lower priced and is actually on sale so was almost £50 cheaper on shelf. The Sandcrawler is also cheaper with the sale price. I've got 75054 along with 75049 to add to the build but I'm hoping 75098 drops to somewhere around £180 to make it a worthwhile purchase. All good points, well made, this hopefully will mean that LEGO`s next UCS set will be real proper UCS set, not another "mis-fire" like this p.o.s. Quote
lomis Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Thanks for the review! Would love to see some pics of your display :) I just added some pics to my previous post. Quote
duboismerci Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 I just added some pics to my previous post. Wow, the gate look horrendous from behind. Also the 3 different E-Web look silly next to each other. The one that came with Hoth assault is way too big. The best one is from the snowspeeder set. I don't think I will ever get this set. Too many parts that are useless and can't be display like the oversized E-Web, the 3/4 finished Ion canon and the 3/4 finished power generator. Plus, the gate can only be displayed in one direction because the back is incomplete. I get that this set is for kids. I still play with my Lego but when I am done I put them back on the shelf to display. That can't be done with this set. Thanks for the pictures. Quote
lomis Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Here's an LXF file I put together for 75098 in case anyone's interested. The biggest omission (other than decorations/decals) is the Taun Taun. Everything else basically exists in LDD. Quote
belkor Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Awesome work there mate - many thanks for doing this :) Quote
Lobot Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 I've just noticed that the limit for 75098 has been reduced to one in the UK, whilst all other Exclusives have increased to five. I'm not sure of the logic behind it, but I didn't expect that! My only thought is that TLG may have already decided to scale-back production, and focus on sets that are in higher demand. Personally I think that it's destined to follow a similar timeline to the UCS B-Wing, and I'd be amazed if it's available in 18 months. Quote

Personally I think that it's destined to follow a similar timeline to the UCS B-Wing, and I'd be amazed if it's available in 18 months. It could be one of several reasons really. Maybe they are genuinely running low on stock. Of course we have no idea how big the initial production run was so its hard to compare to other sets. It's interesting to note though that the product description on the S@H website for the previous SW UCS release - UCS Tie Fighter - has the words proudly presents and "ultimate collector series" written three times. I'll let you guess how many times it's mentioned for Assault on Hoth but it rhymes with 'hero'. Quote
Forresto Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Reducing the limit back down to one could be a marketing move as well. Make it seem like theyre running out so you want to buy one bwfore they do. Or they genuinely aare running out. Quote
slenos Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Seems unlikely that they are actually running out when the limit is still 5 in US. Normally it doesn't go higher than 2 right? Quote
