Posted February 14, 20169 yr Another model built for LUGPol's contest I have made few purely mechanic version of it when I was a kid, but how it could look in studless? The original set had very cool mechanics, with steered wheels and articulated chassis: It worked smoothly, my model does not work as good as the original (thanks to bigger wheels and different dimensions) but it is quite good. Pneumatic circuits are simple, but arm movement is more than interesting. Let's see what Blakbird wrote about it: The boom can be lifted pneumatically. An actuator pushes to pivot the boom up and retracts to pull it down. Because the actuator rod end is not mounted to the boom itself but to a link attached to the jib, a 2 stage motion results. As the actuator extends, the jib first rotates outward because it requires less force. Once it bottoms out, the entire boom lifts. This motion is repeated in reverse on retraction. This system results in a system which mimics the motion of a system with two independent actuation circuits, but achieves it with a single actuator. Genius. Here is how it works: And if anybody would like to build this thingy, I have made instructions (styled as old ones): Instruction can be downloaded from HERE Parts list on Rebrickable And a comparission of old & new: Brickshelf Bricksafe Edited February 16, 20169 yr by M_longer
February 14, 20169 yr Nice homage to the original! Lugpol has lots of competitions like this, I should follow your comunity more often, these are really fun. Its interesting how the new'ish parts and panels make this almost 20 year old design look modern and fresh.

To be honest, I'd like to build it totally different, but functions and overall dimensions had to be be as close as possible to the original set :)
February 14, 20169 yr Cool. Looks much like the original minus the studs. Did you win the LUGPol contest?
February 14, 20169 yr Love the way tge boom extandes, got to use it somewhere sometime soon. Great build

February 14, 20169 yr Author Looks great, even though I never had the original set. Me too :D I built mine after reading Blakbirds Technicopedia and reworking LDraw file.
February 15, 20169 yr This is astonishing, really well done my friend!!! All of it, the model, its functions, the BI, the looks and the way you present it, excellent!!!
