Deinonychus Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 You're going to try to design an alien ship that doesn't suck?Good luck. Not even LEGO can manage that. I dunno...I'm still quite fond of the saucer I cooked up Quote
Algernon Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 (edited) Not bad, although I do kind of prefer the new alien fighter thing that comes with the Ultra-Drill Walker (lol @ name). Now you make me want to break my alien sets and build my own saucer... EDIT: Nevermind, I looked at it again and it sucks. I like yours better. Edited May 13, 2008 by Algernon Quote
Batbrick Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 There seems to be some confusion, I haven't seen the sets yet, unless you just mean on S@H? That said, I really hate TLC for all these great designs, now I want the big craft as well! Batbrick Away! Quote
Algernon Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 I'll probably skip the Alien Infiltrator (despite the cool human bodysuit), but I'm definitely gonna get the Crystal Reaper, Hypersonic Operations Aircraft, and the Ultra-Drill Walker. Quote
Boonetrooper Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 The Hypersonic Aircraft thingy looks like the first set i'll be getting in over 7 months. Also, 55 Euro is 85 US Dollars. Quote
Algernon Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Oh. It just went from being ten bucks underpriced to ten bucks overpriced. =/ Quote
The Rancor Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 You know, what? (I deliberately didn't start a new topic for this) Why do the s always get missed out There are way too many huge human vehicles in the range, and too many tiny flyers Maybe the s should get some sort of HQ or at least a better ship than the current Mothership Am I the only person who thinks like this? Probably because the aliens aren't as big sellers nor as interesting. I'd prefer more human ships and bases as: a) the first human base blew. b) alien ship design is very lacking. Though I would like to see some small alien sets around the Mobile unit/Astrofighter range that has an Alien Commander in them, that would be a good seller I think. Batbrick Away! Quote
Deinonychus Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 It wouldn't hurt them to give the aliens a ground unit or two either. A hovertank or a walker or something with giant wheels would be nice Quote
xenologer Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 I guess the issue is the Martians were designed purely as cannon fodder for the Humans to point their ray guns at? Hence, terrible Martian minifig design, bad ships that arent as popular, resulting in not many big Martian sets? There's not even a story like with EF to make them into Evil Characters, they're just wierd green jelly things... Too bad really.... I wish the Martians had been given better thought. Say a decent new minfig...with enough character to deserve actual cockpits and windscreens on their ships perhaps? Just think, transparent neon green windscreens could've made a come back.... I think, given how ... wierd the situation is with the old Martians and the new 'Commanders'; maybe a good set might be a 'Martian Hive' with some implications for how the different styles of minifig relate to one another in an alien life cycle? brick built cocoons? some kinda Martian queen (probably made of many bionicle parts)? maybe a factory where their semi-organic looking flyers are 'grown'? Quote
Algernon Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 There might still be a chance for good Martian sets if the next wave does well this year. If not, we may never get good aliens outside of SW. =/ Quote
Zarkan Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 You're going to try to design an alien ship that doesn't suck?Good luck. Not even LEGO can manage that. I disagree. To tell you the truth, I'm really quite a fan of the alien ships. The 2007 ones were good, even though they were all very similar to each other, but I'm really a fan of this years ships, because they are all unique. I don't understand why people don't get the "organic ship" concept. Quote

SuvieD Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 I like the new steps this series is taking but I am ready for it to switch to something more classic. Blacktron 3 and Space Police 3 anyone? Maybe something totally new, space pirates or something cool like that. Quote
Batbrick Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Maybe something totally new, space pirates or something cool like that. I'm all for space pirates! We could get a cool "Laser sword" mold! But I do think that the new Commander aliens are actually extremely cool, very menacing and evil. Sure the jellies suck but I love this guy. Batbrick Away! Quote

All-new vehicles but with color-schemes from Classic, Blacktrons 1 & 2, Space Police 1 & 2, M-tron, Ice Planet, etc That would rock Quote

All-new vehicles but with color-schemes from Classic, Blacktrons 1 & 2, Space Police 1 & 2, M-tron, Ice Planet, etc That would rock AGREED As much as I love Mars Mission, I would blow my MM fund on those sets without a second thought. Quote
Wrinkledlion X Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Oh, the Martian ships weren't all bad. The tiny little ones that came as part of bigger sets were boring, but the ETX Alien Strike Ship, the one from Recon Dropship, and the Mothership were all cool. (Especially the first two.) I just think the Mothership should've had a genuine interior. I want a Martian Tripod Walker, though... Quote
Algernon Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Gunnar, I will grant you that the first two alien sets you mentioned were good, but the mothership was total crap. I'm sorry I wasted fifty bucks on it. Quote

Honestly, whatever TLC does, I'll be happy. If they make a third year of Mars Mission, that's good. If they end it this year and make a brand new space theme next year, that's good as well. Seriously, this summer wave has finalized my faith that whether they chose the former option or the latter, they will make it work. Quote
