Brickmaster Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 (edited) Just saw the new alien redesign - apity they didnt do this sooner, now there will be the 2 peice alien pawns and the appendage weilding other aliens. Bah. Still great sets, and a great improvement Edited January 6, 2008 by Brickmaster Quote
General Zen Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Good bye armored drilling unit, hello mars mission 2008! *sweet* Lego has redeemed themselves with the mars mission theme and I am happy that they are continueing it! *y* Quote
Lord Of Pies Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Look at set 7644, perhaps old fold out boxes, like those in the nineties, when the cover folded up to to reveal the pieces on the inside have returned, as it shows a curious curved arrow? Quote
Cyclone Titan Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 My wallet will hate me if I get these, but hey, what do I care? These look amazing and that plane-like thing looks cool. Well, I know what to put on the top of my list for Summer '08 :-P Quote
Looking for a display name Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 gonna get me one of those bichin tanks Quote

Brainbox Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Ah, very nice. All three actually. Add that to the fact that there's an alien with proper arms, and these are fantastic. 7644: Interesting ship, and I quite like the drop-platform as well. A bit Thunderbirds, which is always a good thing. The alien ship there's also okay, especially seeing as how it's a new design- dagger rather than circle. 7645: Well, it's a bit weird, but I like it. It's cute, in a weird way. Not too keen on the alien ship here, though. 7646: Not too bad. I'm not sure about the transformation, but apart from that it's okay. The mech's a bit different, so that's good. Quote
Zaktan of the Shadows Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Wow, 7644 looks awesome! I'm really liking these... they are much better then 07's MM sets. But damn, 7644... *wub* -ZotS Quote
snefroe Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 (edited) hm... the tank looks cool. Sure, it needs some changes, but most of all, this is probably our best source to get technic links fairly cheap :-$ the big ship... hm... not the best big ship i've seen in history, but it's nice that Lego is finaly producing a big space ship again! Imo it doesn't look great, but interesting parts in there, that's for sure, so i'll get this one too... Think this could be easily changed into a "ice planet II" space ship, a new take on the old ice planet theme... the land gear looks interesting too... the alien craft is rubbish... AgentRick Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Upon closer inspection, 7645 appears to have yellow cog wheels under the treads X-O . These are easily preliminary. Quote
iamded Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Look at set 7644, perhaps old fold out boxes, like those in the nineties, when the cover folded up to to reveal the pieces on the inside have returned, as it shows a curious curved arrow? At first I thought you meant the arrows showing the drop down vehicle holder thing, but now I see the one in the middle. 8- Quote
Ricecracker Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 that tank is beautiful!! it appears that the tracks can flatten out, don't know why? also that gun is smokin hot (literally, look at the picture) and it has fingers for grabbing aliens! Quote
salty tbone Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 that tank is beautiful!! it appears that the tracks can flatten out, don't know why? also that gun is smokin hot (literally, look at the picture) and it has fingers for grabbing aliens! I like the tank, too. I also noticed the smoke from the gun. :-) The fingers make me chuckle, though, because those arms look as practical as a T-rex's. Aliens will have to literally jump into the fingers in order to be captured. :-P Quote
Siegfried Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Thanks to Colonel Sanders for these preliminary pics of three new 2008 MM sets: Oh my! These are beautiful! *wub* I was starting to think that the new tracks were a limited edition part... but it seems I am wrong! *sweet* Looks like I am also wrong about the aliens not being upgraded... but I can't say that I care about that either way. I might change my mind when I see the final product though. Back on the sets, annoyingly I want them all! X-D Mars Mission were well priced last year, hopefully they will be scaled the same this year. Thanks Colonel Sanders and Hinckley! *wub* Quote

Aliens will have to literally jump into the fingers in order to be captured. :-P yeah...that's t-rex's hands. but if you strip the hands and put them on those monkey armed mech they both become winners! :-D *y* i like the swinging jets right beneath the tank cockpit though. :-P kinda reminds me of hover jets! MM is finally showing potentials...if only for the humans. :-P if they are targeting grotesque bio-alien ship, they should get that chinese guy...the one featured on brickjournal 9 (or was that 8? :-P) he makes a mean looking alien thingy. or perhaps the octopus/squid looking idea from brickshelf. oh well, i'm not really into goth lego but if they made it mean and grotesque enough it might appeal to others? :-P Quote
Joebot Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 My son got a bunch of MM sets for Christmas, and I was pleasantly surprised by them. The theme got a lot of negative criticism, but I thought they offered nice designs, fun playability, and a nifty color scheme. Except ... for those stupid, stupid aliens. Now, if Lego is truly giving us aliens with arms this year, then this whole theme just went from "pretty good" to "great." I thought for sure MM was going to be one of those one-and-done "disposable themes" that Lego never expands upon (Aquaraiders, Dino Attack, etc.). Very nice to see Lego giving us at least one more wave of sets. Quote
Starwars4J Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 hm... the tank looks cool. Sure, it needs some changes, but most of all, this is probably our best source to get technic links fairly cheap :-$ Well there's always here X-D Quote

Very nice to see Lego giving us at least one more wave of sets. I really like when lego builds on their ideas. :-) It helps me grow on to what they are putting on the market. Themes like dino attack and aqua raiders, trust me, I wouldn't mind more, but lego decided to abandon these themes! X-D Now my interest for mars mission is better because they built off of what they are selling, making it better, and expanding it's presence on the market! ;-) Edited January 7, 2008 by General Zen Quote
Rh3ttyC Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 theyre starting to look like the space themes of eons ago, perhaps the prophecy of the ultimate space theme could be fulfilled with both waves from 2007? *wub* :'-) EDIT: the recon dropship wasnt half bad though *skull* Rh3ttyC out Quote
Brickmaster Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Now that the shock value has worn off, im starting to value abit more and notice some more things; especially that there are almost no weird orange canisters in these sets! I see one on the ship, and thats about it. They seem to be aiming for more imaginative armament and possibilities rather than having a huge clunky prison pod thing. I also notice the white rubber blunt shooter ammo. The striking resemblance to the ice planet cruiser ship and this large mm ship, and the mega core magnetizer and the 2007 armoured drilling unit still astounds me! Going back to the ole space themes for inspiration? :-D Quote
Batbrick Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Wow! I missed these! :-$ This theme has really turned around! This good but disposable theme suddenly offers great designs, classic looking ships and aliens WITH ARMS! 8- Quote
Oky Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I think, I don't need to repeat how freakin' cool these sets are: Amazing Ice-Planet style Dropship, awesome Tank, sweet Mech, Aliens with movable arms, Yadda-yadda... *wub* Did anyone else notice, though, that these sets seem to have yet another new kind of flick-fire missile? Or are they? They all seem to be held in place by clips (or whatever you call those stick-holding pieces) and I can't see how you are supposed to fire anything that way... 8-| Btw, does anyone else think that the little vehicle behind the tank (and perhaps also the alien fighter) are kind of rather pointless? I mean, they're just gonna pull up the price of the set! :-/ Quote
ehlek mountain dew master Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 omg so cool, how is the tank cute? :-/ :-/ *wacko* *wacko* *wacko* *wacko* Quote
CF Mitch Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 'Ello, I have a question, and I guess this is the best topic to ask... If anyone has the MM impulse with the astronaut and the little robot, could he/she tell me what face the astronaut has ? I was kinda wondering in order to decide wether to buy it or not :-) Thnx in advance *y* Quote
