pombe Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Dramatis Personae: Sea Rats Ethylene Glycol Professor of science. A former faculty member at a prominent Corrington university, she was dismissed after failing to have her grants and fellowships renewed as a result of years of failing to publish in peer reviewed scientific journals. Railing against the scientific institution's insistence that data obtained from experiments must be reproducible and come from well controlled rational approaches to testing a model, Professor Glycol has decided to start her own university of higher learning at the Port of Bastion, where she can do science the proper way and publish in her own independent journal with herself as the sole reviewer, unfettered by the rules of the intellectually inferior. Lucy Liu Sixth year graduate student with no publications. Bitter and jaded, with hatred for the entirety of existence, Lucy followed her advisor to the Port of Bastion, because no other faculty members would accept her as a student after being already mentored by Professor Glycol. Highly intelligent and talented, she has languished in academic hell for the past six years, trying in vain to get her advisor to adopt the practices of the other science professors. "Motorboat" Peacock Third year graduate student with no publications. People assume he is nicknamed after a seafaring vessel that has not been invented yet, but in fact, he is nicknamed after a thing he does with his mouth which is named after a seafaring vessel that has not been invented yet. Very popular with the ladies, he spends more time getting into the beds of women than he does actually doing any science. He followed Professor Glycol to the Port of Bastion to escape his fiancee, who was the one who blinded him after learning of an affair "Motorboat" was having with his undergraduate assistant. Alois Bieber First year graduate student with no publications. As a former Olean soldier in the Order of Faith, he was a leader against the principles of science, when he attempted to disrupt a seminar being given by Professor Glycol. Instead, he found himself understanding her talk and becoming interested in the subject. Confused and bewildered, he spent two years soul searching until he was able to accept that he had been wrong his whole life. Alois then sought out Professor Glycol, explained his scientific enlightenment, and became her student. Holy crap! How much further do we have to walk in this jungle?! My mosquito bites have mosquito bites! Bear with it for just a little while longer, Lucy. It appears that this path is leading to something more significant. OH! There it is! Given the feminine nature of this statue, it would appear that the Choochoochootuklukchoo people worshipped this goddess to bolster the fertility of the civilization. I'll say! I'm feeling my fertility being quite bolstered by standing in front of her! PHYSIOLOGY!!! Hold it! Wait! Aren't we supposed be locked up in a Mardier prison, according to the latest issue of the Kings Port Advertiser? Yes, yes, that. Well, Challenge 1 is due before the Freebuild to explain what happened in the MCRA Result from last month, so we are doing this scene first. TIME TRAVEL!!! Oh shut up, Alois! Wait...wha-what is Peacock doing to the statue?! FORNICATION!!! That...that's indecent! We...we can't show that here! Stop him, Professor, stop him! He's desecrating an ancient ruin! You stop him, Lucy. I'm not getting in the way of that. Comments and criticisms are all welcome! Quote
Ayrlego Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Clever (and shapely) statue and, as usual, very humorous story! Quote
Tezclatipoca Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Hahaha ! Great story. Your statue is well designed ! Good job ! I wander how they escaped the prison in Mardier ? Can't wait to see that part of the story... Quote
Capn Frank Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 ... Comments and criticisms are all welcome! Pombe, please be easy on the crude humor. I don't want you to cross any lines breaking Site Guideline by posting something offensive to other members in your future posts. Quote
pombe Posted February 17, 2016 Author Posted February 17, 2016 Look at what you did! You got a mod warning us about our content! Lucy has a point. It would make it hard for me to graduate you if we were banned. SITE GUIDELINES!!! Aw man.... Quote
Fuzzy MacFuzz Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Great build, made me laugh out loud! Very imaginative use of lego pieces to build this. I like that it doesn't look too classically perfect, its more like something from so called 'primitive' art, like the Easter Island statues. Quote
blackdeathgr Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 A nice build accompanied with a funny story! You did it again Quote
Captain Dee Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 (edited) This is a unique entry to the challenge. The statue has kind of an abstract or caricature look to it, similar to Easter Island as stated above. I wouldn't call it "shapely" with the angular hips and waist, and those massive column legs, but it has a nice primitive look to it. The base its sitting on looks fantastic - old, weathered, crumbling away as nature reclaims it. Good work. I like your approach to story-telling because it's based on a few familiar characters and is an engaging dialogue. This particular story is a bit much for my taste though. Well, several of Peacock's total comments have been for that matter. But I'm not easily offended, and I don't think you've really broken any rules per se so it isn't my place to be a censor. I may not like certain content but I'm generally supportive of users' ability to post anything that doesn't break site guidelines on the basis of free speech, especially considering the movement among American youth to silence any viewpoint deemed disagreeable, which is an outright attack on free speech. So... I don't like this story, but I'll defend your ability to be creative within reason. Edited February 18, 2016 by Captain Dee Quote
