Expect a long wait for summer set lists / news...... CM4Sci is banned :sceptic:

I didn't see anything ban-worthy in his recent posts but I have no ground to stand on in this so I won't comment on it. He always seemed like a cool dude to me.

From what I have seen here, and heard from on other sites about this one, I don't find it shocking at all. Hell don't be shocked if I'm banned after writing this.

Omg.Lego take my money!

Can't wait to see what monsters we will get in the summer.

I hope we get sea monsters! Or forest monsters.

Also the sea monsters could be in the ice regions.

I think it's without question that the Lightning Monsters are a huge step up from the Lava Monsters.

Well, for me that was the case with the Lava Monsters, compared to various previous non-human villain factions. I saw the line-up back then and I was like: "HOLY Mother of SATAN!!! So much evil, so much detail, this shit is on fire!!!" Puns aside, they really amped up their game with the refined and seriously demonic prints (particularly on Moltor, Ash Attacker, Sparkks) and the new black armour pieces. The red-black-metallic colour scheme lends itself very well for making other (human) soldiers as well.

Now, they've designed really crazy awesome moulds and prints for these figures, once again (and possibly even to a greater extent this time), but I can't help thinking that they would look better and be way more useful in, say, last year's colours. Imagine those Gargoyle wings in black and dark red; cliché combination, but also iconic. Purple and tr. light blue on the other hand... Doesn't look right to me. Speaking of purple: even if this is fantasy, I find purple not an acceptable colour for rocks, or anything made of rock!

Disagree, some cool parts and patterns but the colors don't work for me (mainly the purple).

I feel exactly the same way. That new rock 'leg' mold would have looked amazing on a lava monster in red and black and the wings. I really will miss the lava creatures (more so because I have no money for the sets.) and what could have been with these great new parts. The sand blue and purple color scheme just seems very off to me.

I liked the lava monsters better, actually.

@Vorkosigan

I stand corrected.

I feel like the Lava Monsters were a great faction but they were based on a tired concept that Lego has been using for years. These new guys are an interesting stone-lightning hybrid, with living vehicles mixed in for good measure. They even include some gargoyles, a concept that Lego has never put into a Castle theme until now, save for the reportedly cancelled 2007 KK2 sets which would have included Malakee and his gargoyle army. I also don't mind the color scheme because it sets these new monsters apart from anything Lego has done before. You wouldn't want just gray, would you?

I agree with you: its great to see a fresh concept with a distinct and different design language. Lightning rock monsters, you can't complain, right? I admit gray would be quite dull, but in this case I'd prefer it over purple, to be honest. Maybe the purple helmet things would look great on a purple-skinned head, though, but those do not exist yet. :look:

Well the hooded minifigure's torso looks a lot like the ninjago airjitzu torsos right? Interesting...

I was thinking the same thing! I'd like to try making a custom Airjitzu ninja with it. The headprint on him is really super neat, he's like the Moltor of this wave. :sweet:

The Lego Universe fan inside me is seeing better Stromling options on the horizon with some of the heads of these rock monsters.

*oh2* Now that you mention it... have a look at this:

@Vorkosigansave for the reportedly cancelled 2007 KK2 sets which would have included Malakee and his gargoyle army. I also don't mind the color scheme because it sets these new monsters apart from anything Lego has done before. You wouldn't want just gray, would you?

Where did you get this info?

I would like to know more about old KK2 ideas.

I read it on Classic-Castle a few months ago while digging through posts that were over a decade old. Several people referenced a rumored Gargoyle army due for release in 2006 or 2007,  but it appears the last wave of KK2 replaced it. I figure that the line was only going to be extended if it was selling well, which might me why the 2006 wave was small and appeared to be hastily made.

I wonder how they would look if the electricity was yellow. Like that one villain from the Ultra Agents line. I personally like the lava monsters more, though these are creative and nowhere near bad

Why did the game die.

Why are there only one of those rock dudes among the sets.

Why is the green wizard from kingdoms expensive.

With the swirly leg piece and the wings I can finally make a good gargoyle wizard for my custom gargoyle army.  Painting these might not be easy though. Do you guys think the clear parts of the wings can be detached? And do you think the inside of the swirl leg piece can be taken out?

Obviously not without question, as the above posts indicate, but I wanted to throw my voice in with theirs.  The Lava Monsters were better all around, and I personally find them more useful for my purposes as well.

So they still haven't put Gargoyles in a Castle theme, they've put them here...

The Lava concept is a bit tired, although that was the best I've ever seen LEGO handle it.  The Red / Black concept is also rather tired, but as someone mentioned above, it is iconic.  It's often my favorite color combination, and in that sense, I may find more to like about Ninjago this coming year.  So I think the new rock pieces would have looked better in last year's colors.

I'll admit that these new creatures come from a new and interesting place, but I would have preferred separate Lightning and Rock factions.  A Rock faction with a dark grey color for the rock pieces would be fantastic.  It would still have elements of fantasy (being rock monsters), but it would also be grounded in reality.  The current blue / purple color scheme is odd, and I don't think it works that well (despite the fact that I think both sand blue and dark purple are seriously underused colors in Castle LEGO).
