makoy Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Of all the prelims it seems that Ninjago is the most unfinished of them all... I still can't recognise the details on the helmets because of the poor resolution. All of their torso have no prints yet. Fusion Dragon looks better in picture. :) Quote
LegoShroom Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 I have to say, I am thoroughly disappointed with this line of ninjago sets; it's more of the same and not in a good way. There's alot of poor colour choices, builds with too few pieces (such as the bike and turbomobile which come with oversized bricks which do not look good) and then there's the dragon and destiny's bounty which do not come close to the level of quality that we have got from these builds in previous waves. However, this works out for the best as I'm planning to get most, if not all of the Lego Batman Movie sets so at least there won't be as much of a dent in my wallet as there would've been had these sets been any good. I'm guessing that we'll get a good wave for the Ninjago movie though so hopefully we'll get one good wave of Ninjago next year. Quote
Pulp Detective Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Really liking what I'm seeing thus far.And I have to say I'm rather suprised with the size of the forge.Definitely looking forward for the official pics!! Quote
Kim-Kwang-Seok Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Looks like Ninjago goes a bit more classic. Not so much my thing, so I'll gladly save money. Though I'll be really pissed if they don't release propper dragons for Nya, Kai & Cole before the series retires Except for the brick built heads this dragon looks as bad as the older ones to me. The "new" bounty however should look great to my ghost-wave bounty, though the exposed studs on the backside of the kanu-pieces will probably look odd. Quote

horizon Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 While the sets are not finished they are for 98% complete I reckon. And they look crap. Honestly the only interesting built seems to be the forge. The dragon, big weird thing look like Nexo force junky-ness. And the vehicles are unimpressive. I think they need to be designed badly so the movie sets will be more popular. Quote

Instead they probably just diverted fewer resources and less time towards designing these sets so that they could focus more on the movie sets. Quote
BrickJagger Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Gotta say, these sets look very uninspired. Almost as if it was a filler wave for the movie, which in my opinion it is. The Vermillion are clones of the Fangpyre with a touch of Stone Army, and the Ninja vehicles could not be more generic. I'm 100% sure the movie wave will be better. Quote
LegendsOfNinjago Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Keep in mind this wave was made pretty quickly. The Lego Ninjago was only moved back a year ago. It was supposed early next year. I personally think they all look pretty sweet and over all have a much darker vide than when i got from the drawings. Quote
Aanchir Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Personally I think the new wave looks quite nice. The Dragon Blacksmith is a nice-looking building, and the fusion dragon it comes with feels very faithful to the Ninjago style without feeling like a direct rehash of existing Ninjago dragons. Jay's bike feels much nicer than Kai's and Nya's in this year's Ninja Bike Chase, IMO, and I'm curious to see what functions it has. The "Disastrous Dusk" is extraordinarily unique, and the other enemy vehicles are unorthodox yet unique. The ninja boat I'll call "Destiny's Bounty, Jr." has some amazingly creative part use to create a whole different sort of boat that nevertheless still feels faithful to its predecessor's design language. The main set I'm nonplussed by is the Samurai Turbomobile, which does feel a bit generic at first glance (but may be hiding some cool functions). I don't get why people don't find the baddies unique, either. They feel very different from either the Fangpyre or the Stone Army, as do their vehicles. Overall, I feel like people will be much more receptive to these sets once we have clearer, more finalized pictures that better show off what sets them apart from previous Ninjago sets. But then, what else is new? Preliminary pics never show sets in the best light. Lots of things could potentially change by the time the sets are released. Quote
MrHerofan Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 I personally really like the look of these sets. Yes there are concepts that we have seen many times before, but these sets have left more of an impression on me than 2016's sets. I really love the way the fusion dragon looks and it could very well be my first Ninjago purchase in years. The villains also look like they will be really cool once we see finalized version's of them. Quote
1980-Something-Space-Guy Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 I'll hold my money for the movie wave. Quote

I find them unique that I want to find out other details such as armour printing and helmet details but the prelims didn't give any of that. I saw a screen capture of what appears to be the snake for the upcoming season and it is very different from Fangfyre or Stone Army. I think they are supposed to be covered with torns and some of them can have more than 2 heads? Also, I realise that the people who have liked the Possession and Skybound subthemes could not find any elements of 'ghost' and 'pirates' from this new wave hence the negative reaction. Regretfully we cannot stick to one subtheme and that's expected from Ninjago so if you're not a fan from the beginning then that's unfortunate. This wave is quite normal as it has all the elements that make up Ninjago - mechs, dragons, vehicles, small to medium playsets/structure with Ninja motif so there's nothing awful or wrong about this. It's highly expected that with the Ninjago movie this wave could only be a filler to sustain the right amount of interest until the movie sets come out. Quote
NinjaJayNuva Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Although many people hate this wave's sets, I actually like it! Especially the Disastrous Dusk and the Vermilion vehicle with catapults, those two sets look very unique and fresh! The samurai turbo mobil and dragon forge also look very cool and interesting. I noticed that Jay's bike gets many hates, but despite the fact that it's design is reused, it actually looks pretty cool! And about the Vermilion trap and DB Jr, I can't really judge them right now, cuz they're either too blurry or unfinished. Another thing I really like about this wave is the collectibles, they looks like some sort of hand guards, which is very cool and unique. Quote
Ardelon Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Havent seen the prelims yet, so going only by the drawings (thanks for drawing them, he who shall not be named), Im intrigued. Im never really a fan of the ninja vehicles, more so of the building and enemy vehicles, and Im optimistic about this wave. Quote
LegoRomania Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Hey the weapons are named hands of time? Quote
TPLSTER21 Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Having now seen the prelims, I'm not sure where all of the hate for this wave is coming from...? To me, it looks like a fairly "typical" Ninjago wave and while not all the sets are winners, there are some good looking models in there. Some observations: - The "mini-snake-mech" in Dragon Forge appears to not have a standard head, but instead has several small snake heads! - Blacksmith building in Dragon Forge is a stylistic departure from buildings in previous Ninjago waves, which I think is a good thing. - I didn't realize that the Vermillion vehicles were primarily black and red/red-orange and I think the color combination looks really good. - I can't tell whether Destiny's Shadow is a boat or a jet. It has wings, but they are covered with cloth peices and it is shown in the water, but it has a cockpit.... - 70623 looks like a great set with the Vermillion vehicle having a very unique look Looking forward to seeing final pics of the sets to see if any changes get made and to get a sense of the features of each set and the look of the Vermillion. Lastly, I see a January release date for this Wave. I wonder if this is only for the UK/Europe or if they will go with a January release for North America as well? Last year, it sucked having to wait until March to get access to the sets. Fingers crossed! Quote

It's yet another "typical" Ninjago wave. Brick-built dragon? Check. Ninjamobile? Check Ninjacycle? Check Hoverboard/small flying vehicle(s)? Check. I'm probably only in for the villain minifigures (and I think the blacksmith hut looks ace), so I don't have a dog in the fight, but I can easily see why folks would find this wave uninteresting. The only 2017 product shown that is more repetitive is the City police line. Quote

And all of those have been done multiple times since Ninjago's inception. I guess at this point, given the nature of the theme, we are looking for variations on those types of models that bring something new and interesting to the table. But I guess what I was trying to say is, despite the "typicality" of this wave, there appear to be some stand out sets in it. Quote
LegoRomania Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 I'm going to buy NK,they are crazy but original XD Quote
Bricknblue Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 I think the ghost and pirate themes have been the best in the series along with the snakes of the 2nd year. This feels like they just needed filler before the movie and went "Let's take the stone bad guys and the name bad guys and stick them together". There isn't anything unique and the dragon is a step back, Wu's Dragon is stunning, it's just Mad Lips NinjaGo. _______ mech & _______ dragon Quote

The only 2017 product shown that is more repetitive is the City police line. One does not simply change a successful business formula, just for the sake of change. Besides, repeating patterns bring forth compatibility and collectibility. I, for example, tend collect the dragon sets and the dojos/temples. Quote
gamejutzu Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 (edited) Aww... I can't find the prelims. Oh well, I'm heading out once more. This time I don't even know where to look, as the pictures aren't exactly official yet... Oh well, i'll find something eventually so I can be on the same level as you guys. EDIT: lol, of all places... I really don't think mentioning where I found it is necessarily bad, but if the rules are that strict i'll just stay zipped. I think the Jay bike set is pretty weak... The other vehicle can be nice as a polybag, but otherwise it's not really interesting... It's just there because Jay hasn't had a bike yet... On the other hand, the Nya car is apparently black. Another Bat-vehicle! I probably won't get it, but I am curious to see how it will work. Also pleasantly surprised to see it based off Nya's car from Rebooted. ---Vertea--- Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Curious about the Medusa... thing. It's not quite a minifig, is it? Like, there' a head and haripiece, but the body is brick-built and looks a little clunky. I'm pretty sold on the new snake molds and the collectible weapon this time round, but I think I'll need finalized pics before I make a proper decision. These prelims are TOO prelim to know much.
