gamejutzu Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 (edited) I just noticed Zane's entire face is all... artificial technology-like. That actually makes me want it now, that expression is just great. Also, there will be dynamic hair in this movie right? Hair styles might change throughout the movie. For instance, maybe Jay was in a hurry to catch up with everyone, and he didn't do his hair. It could also explain why he's in the back. I also noticed Cole has a headband. Combined with his lax expression, is he gonna be one of those hippy bodacious kind of characters? Edited February 6, 2017 by gamejutzu Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 They look like that they wake up few moment befor ethat picture.. :) Accept Zane maybe and Lloyd :D... I like Nya and Jay...rest is kinda weird..hope for some official pictures soon... Quote
obsidianheart Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 I suppose they probably changed all the hairstyles because they either had the budget to realize the characters exactly as the designers had originally intended, or because they figured kids would find it boring if the characters looked the same on the big screen. I can't wait to see if they release physical versions of those styles, because that inevitably leads to different colored versions. Nya's hair looks like a retool of the cavewoman hair. Quote

They don't have to look exactly the same... Just not like that I mean, Kai's hair looks like a camp fire... I guess the new molds do have some benefits, we'll see more hair variety in other themes. I can especially see Cole's hair being used for a CMF. Quote
Rookie875 Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Take this with a grain of salt but one of the sets for the movie may be a "large, mechanical shark with legs" for Garmadon. Quote
notpennysboat Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 So this is it, Licensed or Movie series : 20 minifigs ; Regular series : 16 minifigs. Quote

Nah, Movie series from now on - twenty minifigures. Nothing set for licensed. I mean, Simpsons both had 16, as did DFB, but Team GB had 9 and Disney had 18. Edited February 6, 2017 by just2good Quote

PenPlays Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Would love it if the mods would pin this thread, as I would love to keep show set discussion and movie set discussion separate. Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 I adore how Cole looks! Much better IMO! Nya looks great as well as I never was fan of her haircut. Quote

Itaria No Shintaku Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Hello everyone, as many of you already know, there will be NO SUMMER WAVE and the sets will be directly from the movie. This comes from the summer catalog. Cheers. Quote

Scarilian Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 I'm not a fan of the faces or the hair style for any of them Quote
Exetrius Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 The next magazine will contain Kai, with rather forgettable equipment. About the movie figures I'm not going to say much just yet. For now, Jay and Lloyd look really good. Overall, great hairpieces. Quote

gamejutzu Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Once the trailer comes out in a couple of days we might get a good idea on what sort of sets to expect, or even CMFs. Quote
josykay Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 (edited) Hm, Nya looks ok. Just a bit ungroomed, and a less strict hairstyle. Ok, I guess. But the rest? Cole looks like an ugly Prince Valiant, Zane looks creepy as hell, Jay like a wet poodle, Kai like a low budget sayajin, and Lloyd obviously wears a wig. :P Edit: Interesting outfit of Nya. New "skirt" part incoming?Could look interesting with an chest armor. Edited February 6, 2017 by josykay Quote

Another factor might've been a desire to vary up the characters' silhouettes more. A common trick in animation to keep characters instantly recognizable is to make sure no two characters' silhouettes look the same. With LEGO minifigures, the easiest way to achieve this is by changing their hair/headgear or adding a neck accessory. Other than Kai, the ninja in the LEGO Ninjago TV series all use somewhat generic LEGO hair that has been used for many other LEGO characters besides them. By comparison, the main characters of The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie tend to have much more unique silhouettes. Emmet, instead of using the generic "man hair" from the 70s, has a little cowlick. Wyldstyle has a hood and a ponytail that comes up at an angle. And President Business has his uniquely blocky hairstyle, or, alternatively, his hilariously oversized helmet. And to those commenting on the characters' facial expressions in the movie, bear in mind that facial expressions in LEGO movies ARE something that changes from frame to frame. Cole's eyes won't necessarily be half-closed throughout all of the movie — in fact, for all we know, they might only be this way during this still because at that moment he was blinking and there wasn't any more picture-perfect moment that had all six ninja together to use in the article. makoy Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 Why are so many fixated about the face and hair? I appreciate the first look at these characters. The trailer that will come out soon will give us a better insight of each character so apart from the news article I think that we have to see what they would look like in the sets before bashing the dead horse out these crazy faces and hair styles.. or not.
