This is great news! I was foolish enough to miss out on the Harry Potter theme entirely, so it's great to hear that it's coming back in some form, even if it's just Dimensions packs. Looking forward to it!

(An updated UCS sized Hogwarts would be nice too, just saying.)

I'm hoping that even if it is just Dimensions packs, we might also get a huge Hogwarts, like what happened recently with the Ghostbusters theme. That theme has three Dimensions packs this year, as well as the giant Firehouse Headquarters set out at the same time. (There's also the Ecto-1, but that's a more special case as it's an Ideas set.)

I decided to write a letter to LEGO asking even for a hint about possible future HP and FB series. Here is what I've got:

"Dear Nick,

Thanks for getting in touch with us.

Isn’t it exciting that there are so many new LEGO® sets every year? It’s great to see you’re eagerly waiting and trying to find out about what we’ve planned for the future.

I'm sorry that I can’t tell you anything about LEGO® Harry Potter™ / Fantastic Beasts™ at the moment. Something like that might be coming soon, but until new toys are announced in the catalogue or on LEGO.com, we aren’t able to share any details. That’s because it takes a long time to design and make new toys, and we sometimes need every minute until they hit the shelves to make them perfect. Besides... we look forward to surprising you! If you want to find out about new LEGO sets as soon as they’re announced, just keep an eye on our website..."

I now it's early to make predictions or even draw conclusions out of this letter, BUT I've pointed out a couple of thing I find interesting in this response:

First of all, he refers to the series as "LEGO® Harry Potter™ / Fantastic Beasts™", making ot possible to predict that they already have names for these series.

The second thing is "Something like that might be coming soon" - pretty obvious, don't you think so? But the phrase "LIKE THAT" makes me think only about dimension packs, still - even that will be very awesome to get.

And I even pointed out the third thing: "we look forward to surprising you". Well, again, pretty obvious, so maybe they make Hogwarts with 4k+ details, maybe they will only release dimensions' packs. I don't what kind of surprise this is.

Well, don't blame me for such a far-fatched and lame arguments based upon this simple letter, which I think TLG sends to everyone with similar questions. Nevertheless, according to what Fox Mulder says: "I want to believe..."

I think we got a pretty good Hogwarts in the last wave and if you put 4842 with it's extension set of 4867 then you've got a pretty big and healthy Hogwarts set with 16 figures (I've not included the second Harry). Those two sets are bigger and more extensive than the 10217 Diagon Alley set.

I've got the 4757 Hogwarts which is OK but not as good as the later version although it's a different part of the castle. I'm tempted to just sell this one on and BL the parts of the castle that are unique such as the clock dish etc.

I'm not sure what people would expect with regards to a 'UCS' Hogwarts.

well the majority of the 2 latest Hogwarts set didn't directly represent the visuals of the actual castle.

A good d2c should replicate what is actually iconic and seen in the movie. Possibly include the front courtyard to some capacity.

here's a WIP hogwarts i started awhile back, obviously basing it of the set.

When displayed with any of the older Hogwarts though, the 2010 one feels exceedingly short. I'd like to see a taller one again.

I think there are a couple of minifigures which I wouldn't mind seeing in any upcoming sets: Cornelius Fudge, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew.

I feel like it's only a matter of time until they release more HP sets - I say within the next 2-3 years. The books and movies are still adored by many to NOT keep producing merchandise. I was just at the Wizarding World at Islands of Adventure, and it was by far the most crowded area of the park.

These would be pretty great! I'd love an updated Lupin as well, I love werewolves and it'd be a good way to get a new mould (or maybe the re-release of Wolf Guy's head).

This is definitely a big year for Harry Potter's resurgence as well, what with Fantastic Beasts and the Cursed Child (although LEGO based on Cursed Child feels unlikely to me considering it is a limited theatre performance rather than a blockbuster movie). Perhaps LEGO want to test the water with a Fantastic Beasts Dimensions pack before bringing back the theme?

I've been in my Dark Ages since the time just before the end of the HP line, does anyone know how well the sets sold and whether or not you think that would impact LEGO making HP sets in the future?

I think the only thing really stopping a HP line is whether Lego has the space in their plans for that kind of theme. I mean, right now Lego is running so many licensed sets, that I'm sure space in the lineup is limited. Star Wars, Marvel, DC, Ghostbusters, and Jurassic World are all guaranteed to go for multiple movies (in the case of Star Wars and Marvel, they'll go on forever), while so far we just have one confirmed HP movie.

Right now, I don't know any other company that is producing collectible merchandise for Fantastic Beasts.

Here's hoping we get some kind of confirmation of multiple HP movies which would then completely justify a HP line of Lego.

The old sets were all designed to work together though hence Hogwarts being placed on top of the Chamber of Secrets. As a standalone set 4842 is larger than any of the previous Hogwarts sets.

I would love to see Harry Potter sets. But is there any chance besides dimensions for sets to come out in 2016? Or is the best chance for 2017?

The Clock Tower, Courtyard, Wonky Bridge (that I had a Butterbeer next to only last weekend) and the greenhouses are what were really missing to make 4842/4867 more complete but that would make a huge set.

This upcoming movie is the first of a trilogy so we know there's at least two more movies coming besides this one.

I agree in hoping that this trilogy will act as a catalyst for more HP sets from the first 7 books.

I would quite like to see perhaps a UCS Ford Angela done in the style of The Tumbler/ MINI Cooper.

These would be pretty great! I'd love an updated Lupin as well, I love werewolves and it'd be a good way to get a new mould (or maybe the re-release of Wolf Guy's head).

Yes! A wolf head would make a fine addition to the current minifigure.

It seems that we will get a few Dimensions packs for both Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts. I suspect LEGO is waiting to see how big of a hit FB is before deciding to make a wave/waves for it. The Hobbit line likely underperformed. This way they can ride the wave if there is one without taking up production and shelf space in case the fans don't come back.

I don't think LEGO 'waits to see how films do.' Products launch as tie-ins to current films, or they don't. I guess it's slightly possible since this is a planned trilogy, and really with the same creative team as the final four HP films, I can't see how this will be bad.

Either way, I would so love more HP LEGO, though my wallet certainly would not.

with Hobbit lego had essentially 'bought in' on 3 movies over 3 consecutive years (it started as 2 but nvm that.

With Fantastical Beasts it's for now just 1 movie to begin with. If lego makes a theme for it and it goes bad then then dont really have to follow through with the other 2. (unlikely)

If lego is 'testing the waters' they might do one set like they did for ghostbusters, ant man, doctor who etc.

Its fairly obvious FB get added dimensions so it would make sense to have at least one set along to back that up more.

Piece count wise, I know it is. But even *not* placed on top of other sets, the older castles are still taller. If you are to stack the first, which already stretches the highest, you create an even greater discrepancy, making a display particularly difficult.

There is no height comparison on the sets alone. Obviously this is due to piece density and detail in many ways-- the original is quite hollow-- but my initial point that the new one is the shortest can't really be contested.

This upcoming movie is the first of a trilogy so we know there's at least two more movies coming besides this one.

That's what was originally said and what seems to still be prevailing, but at some point after that they directly contradicted it and said it wouldn't be a trilogy.

I think (and hope) it still probably will be, but it's not really confirmed right now.

I was in my dark ages when the last 2 HP waves were released (and I hadn't seen the movies then, don't hate me), but I've since seen all 8 movies and that left me craving for Lego sets! Here's hoping we see some HP sets to go along with the FB ones.

Having a little more height is about the only thing the older sets had though. I've owned all of the Hogwarts versions and the ground floors were basically empty especially on the towers. I'm still not sure what people think they'll get with a 'UCS' Hogwarts. Diagon Alley was, according to it's set number, a UCS set but there's no height involved at all and is actually smaller than 4842 although Gringotts does fold closed to make a more complete building.

I know this thread is about the possibility of us getting more HP sets but if they do make a Hogwarts then it will have some kind of mythical status until it gets revealed and people will still complain about the size, price and whether or not parts of it are similar to older releases. No matter what happens it won't be big enough.

Not necessarily related, but whoever changed the description of the Licensed subforum, to add Marvel, DC, Ghostbusters, thank you! That was long overdue! ;)

I'm not complaining about the most recent Hogwarts, I loved it, and I already acknowledged the hollowness of the original. I currently own them all and they're all set up together, I can compare them quite easily. My point is simply that one thing I think a UCS Hogwarts could do would be to return to a greater height but with a larger level of detail. I know people have different wishes, but I would personally like it so that a UCS one still wouldn't be dwarfed in height by my others.

Since we have not heard about a line for Fantastic Beasts AND Ghostbusters, Antman, and Dr Strange are all getting only one set, is it likely that there will only be one Fantastic Beast set?

I don't consider that a bad thing if it is approx $60 and has all the major characters in it.

Agree!

And it seems the banner won't need a change after all..... as LEGO HP it will be relevant again soon
