It's a shame because Harry Potter was one of the few licensed themes where the sets were location based. They definitely botched that last wave just like they did with LotR. Clearly they're still holding onto the license, so what's the deal?? Give us at least one or two FB sets for the next movie..

Why do you say the last wave was botched? Hardly the case. We got the Knight Bus, a great extension for the Castle, Diagon Alley, and Narcissa in a cheap set.

I think the idea of a one off, D2C Hogwarts sounds like a decent idea. Like the Silent Mary set, just for Harry Potter instead. We aren't getting more HP movies, so I don't think a whole wave is necessary, but one large $300-$400 castle could be a really neat model.

I would certainly buy it. And I don't even have any Harry Potter sets!

I like that idea. I hope the Silent Mary was a test for the future.

The only thing I would be interested in from a HP revival would be a D2C Hogwarts Express. For castle fans, a Hogwarts Castle is a castle, but I'm pretty sure most would prefer a traditional, unlicensed one over that. Train fans, on the other hand, would take most anything I'm pretty sure; and an Expert quality Hogwarts Express would make for an excellent set.

A D2C Hogwarts Express I could definately get behind, especially if it could be powered without too much trouble. Would love it to come with either the Weasley's car, or a basic Platform 9 3/4, plus all the main characters.

Maybe this tread should be merged with the HP one?

The wizarding world of Harry Potter probably include both HP and FB sets :sweet:

Or just simply retitle this thread "Possible Future Licensed Sets/Themes". The discussion on this thread has mostly been about HP/FB; but given the title of the topic, it has veered away from that at times.

Now that Disney has officially acquired Fox, what do you think will be the most inevitable licensed merchandise partnerships for Lego that will stem from this?

Personally, I think James Cameron's Avatar is the most likely by the time the sequels roll out, but I know many may be hoping that the Simpsons will be revived as a result. For me, I would not be looking forward to that latter possibility if that were to happen. :ugh:

Disney also gained the rights to Home alone. But my guess is the main sets to come out of the Disney fox deal are fantastic four and X-men sets. I think a avatar set or two would be cool but I see Lego really taking advantage of the superhero’s they now have

Sure, the Marvel side of things is definitely an inevitable given, and unfortunately the only aspect of this deal that people keep talking about. :hmpf_bad:

Come to think of it though, regarding the Avatar franchise, I wonder if Lego might not do an Avatar theme if there's a possibility that marketers might consider it too similar to the Star Wars franchise. I know they may seem dissimilar, but in the same way Lego won't seemingly have a in-house Space theme run alongside the Star Wars theme, Lego may consider Avatar similar to Star Wars only because they both are set on worlds other than Earth.

Wait. Disney acquired Fox? Doesn't Fox own Harry Potter?

Anyway maybe an ice age set? Bond would be awesome . Even Night at the museum, maybe some of their sci-fi stuff(I,robot) , Percy Jackson and something that they probably will do- but really, really, really hope they don't- diary of a wimpy kid.

Warner brothers owns Harry Potter

Here's a comprehensive article outlining every major movie franchise Disney has acquired from this deal.

Screen Rant - Every Movie Franchise Disney Has Bought From Fox

Ongoing Franchises

  1. ALIEN/PREDATOR
  2. AVATAR
  3. THE DIE HARD FRANCHISE
  4. FANTASTIC FOUR
  5. THE MARTIAN AND ARTEMIS
  6. PLANET OF THE APES
  7. RED SPARROW
  8. STAR WARS
  9. X-MEN

Franchises That Could Be Rebooted

  1. ALVIN & THE CHIPMUNKS
  2. DOCTOR DOLITTLE
  3. HOME ALONE
  4. ICE AGE
  5. NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM
  6. PERCY JACKSON
  7. THE X-FILES

A Home Alone set would be great to go alongside the Winter Village. Would love if they could include the party silhouettes that Kevin rigged up, and add gears so they could be rotated.

Same goes for Ice Age, but that would need a pile of new moulds. Maybe if Dimensions hadn't been canned, we could have seen Sid, but Manny would have been brickbuilt.

An Ice Age theme could be interesting, and perhaps Lego would be considerate enough to make hypothetical new molds for Manny and Diego versatile enough to be reprinted into normal Woolly Mammoth and Saber-Tooth Cat variants, after the fact that is.

Lego Diego means Lego Zabu ☺

I don't know if Universal Pictures would at all be interested in merchandising this, but since Lego has a partnership with the studios through the Jurassic World license, wouldn't it be cool to see sets done for this movie? :oh:

Um. :sceptic: Yeah.

Not likely.

How so? Sheerly incomprehensible size? :head_back:

Seriously though, I'm really not expecting Universal to merchandise this movie to toy companies, as it seemed to be more marketed to young adults instead of kids aged six to twelve. But, it seems like an opportunity for Steampunk themed sets for Lego, at least I wish.

I was thinking "to political". But, I could be wrong. (I haven't read the book).

But if the movie becomes popular enough, maybe Lego will take advantage of the popularity and make their own steam-punk theme.

Actually, I would prefer that scenario instead, as I'd much rather want to see an original, in-house take on the genre over a licensed one.

Now maybe I'm wrong about this, but I think this movie is perhaps the first major motion picture to really delve into the Steampunk genre, as others only featured elements of it as opposed to a fully realized alternate historical timeline.

Let me just say that we might be getting sets based on 2 themes that originated from 2 Lego ideas sets and a certain Tim burton movie

Beetlejuice?

Is this information from that leaked 1HY catalog first shown by Promobricks, and are the two Ideas projects that you speak of both based upon a single license? The only two times I remember that happening were with the Ghostbusters and Doctor Who franchises (but maybe I'm wrong about that part).
