Posted November 6, 200717 yr Here you have some stuff I built afterreading for the 6th (maybe 7th X-D ) time the book. Don't expect too much ;-) As you know if you read the book (if not, run to the library NOW!), troopers are launched on enemy planets enclosed into personal drop-pods that protect them from the heat of friction with the atmosphere, and that give them protection. Here is my view of that scene: Detail of the pod: More here. This is a scene from the first battle in the book. It's when Rico is jumping from building to building, but he fails calculating the jump. He is going to land on a bad roof, full of pipes and antennas. He won't be able to stop there for 3 seconds to aim and shoot his A-missil (I gave Rico a Commando power suit in this vig, even if he should be wearing a Combat suit, like in the pod): More here. I'll post more stuff next week ;-) LuxorV
November 6, 200717 yr Is he on the bounce? (See, I've read it!) I like your version of it. *sweet* I wish they did the movie the right way. :'-(
November 6, 200717 yr Author Is he on the bounce? (See, I've read it!) I like your version of it. *sweet* I wish they did the movie the right way. :'-( Me too, those power suits are just sooo great *wub* , and the story makes more sense |-/ LuxorV
November 6, 200717 yr Well, they made something similar with the jetpacks in Minority report... I think it's all in how you capture the scene ;-) I haven
November 6, 200717 yr Thanks :-$ As you can see in the subtitle of this topic, the author is Robert Anson Heinlein (I also found Robert Andrew Heinlein once, but it was a mistake). |-/ :-P Sounds German... thanks for telling me!
November 7, 200717 yr This is an awesome little MOC. I also read the book but don't remember it well enough to quote it. I agree, that movie couldn't have missed the mark more. The book is a story about a soldier coming of age. The movie is about Neil Patrick Harris pulling a CGI queen bug out of a cave and ex-soap opera stars spewing horrible dialogue with an odd love triangle shoved in becuase writers don't know how to tell good stories... Anyway, awesome drop-pods. Simple, yet really sleek and cool! Well done again! *sweet* *y*
November 7, 200717 yr That 's interesting. I saw it more of a social/political statement with the characters and even story as a side-point. 8-| I read it in college, but I can see what you saw in the story too. Regardless to say, it made you think about life and war a lot more than the movie did... Spoiler Alert! I'll always remember the passage in the book that talks about the K-9 units that are so close, if the human dies, they put the dog down and if the dog dies the human usually kills himself...
November 7, 200717 yr I read it in college, but I can see what you saw in the story too. Regardless to say, it made you think about life and war a lot more than the movie did... Indeed. I think Verhoeven was trying to make a Alien/Starship Troopers/Beverly Hills 90210 hybrid. :-/ I still like the movie, but it is not Starship Troopers. Spoiler Alert! I'll always remember the passage in the book that talks about the K-9 units that are so close, if the human dies, they put the dog down and if the dog dies the human usually kills himself... I like a lot of the concepts in it actually, including . I've read it several times but I should read it again. I liked the talking bomb. I'm a thirty second bomb! I'm a thirty second bomb! Twenty-nine! Twenty-eight! Twenty-seven!... :-P I was very surprised that didn't make it into the movie. :-|
November 7, 200717 yr I love this :-D People who read the book, sometimes twice or even more often, and talk about it because they like it. Whoever I know and read the book usually complains about it and says the movie was so much more interesting. Should
November 7, 200717 yr Author Great discussion here! :-D Yes. I think it would have been hard to translate the bouncing without making it look silly. I still think Verhoeven went too far... but I could rant about that for hours. :-$ That 's interesting. I saw it more of a social/political statement with the characters and even story as a side-point. 8-| Have you ever read To us the living, that's the mother of all his social/political plots (since it was his first book, even if it got published only after his death) I read it in college, but I can see what you saw in the story too. Regardless to say, it made you think about life and war a lot more than the movie did...Spoiler Alert! I'll always remember the passage in the book that talks about the K-9 units that are so close, if the human dies, they put the dog down and if the dog dies the human usually kills himself... Well, the human tends to kill himself, but medics try to put him in a hypnosis machine and cure his mind... As for the bouncing troopers, I think you could make a good, and not too silly, scene (not too long), much like the first chase in Spiderman, when Peter jumps from roof to roof ;-) LuxorV
November 7, 200717 yr Well, the human tends to kill himself, but medics try to put him in a hypnosis machine and cure his mind...Really? I can
