Hey y'all, I'm doing research for a video on the most hated LEGO sets. I've been thinking about it, and only really recent examples came to mind, like the Hoth Attack/Assualt on Hoth sets, and last year's Winter Village set.

I'm not talking about the sets that you personally dislike the most, but rather the sets that the LEGO community as a whole dislikes the most. Ones that have garnered controversy across multiple LEGO fan sites. Any other examples?

Hobbit Battle of Five Armies comes to mind. No stock Dwarf infantry minifigure and a seemingly wasted opportunity overall.

Agreed. I didn't hate the sets by any stretch but I was largely uninterested in all of them. There wasn't the same magic that was in the LOTOR or Unexpected Journey sets. Maybe it's because Battle of the Five Armies was a good movie (I liked it) but was not nearly as good as the rest of the franchise.

I think Chima could be another one not many AFOLs like.

Friends in the beginning.

Would the polls in the numerous Eurobricks set reviews be a useful source of data to evaluate like or dislike?

I remember some strong dislike thrown at the Clone Wars Twilight set - http://brickset.com/...-1/The-Twilight

"4 Juniors" and "Jack Stone" - http://brickset.com/...heme-Jack-Stone were really lame, but they were meant to be "junior-ized" because that was their motive, HOWEVER, (and I can't figure this out) wasn't about then when juniorization was starting to spread into the mainstream themes? I want to think it was http://brickset.com/...heme-World-City but now I'm not sure. Can any one help? :look:

Galidor of course, but some early Belville stuff was equally ugly.

Friends originally debuted to controversy! Don't forget about that. In the AFOL community and in the media at large, everyone had an opinion.

We all have learned to forgive the early Star Wars offerings. Yeah the 1st Mil Falcon was ugh-leeeee, but it had charm, it was still the Falcon. But I don't think anyone liked what is possibly the ugliest licensed set ever made - http://brickset.com/...tar-Wars-Bucket

No wait. That was the terrible http://brickset.com/...rike-vs-Electro

Oh. No. Sorry. That was the miserable http://brickset.com/...timate-Showdown

The Knight's Kingdom II sets were disliked. Don't you remember the "jellybean knights" phrase?

Angry Birds... well, it didn't seem to go over very well, but.... it's not even out yet. But I do feel like it will be the next "shelf-warmer" and predict it hitting clearance shelves around the world.

http://brickset.com/sets/theme-Clikits in AFOL hindsight, offers little. I've seen conversations among Flickr's AFOL pros that only a few pieces can be connected via most common System connections, but it was a jewelry theme, not a building one...

Minecraft? It seemed to get little AFOL love, but it seems designed well according to source material, so...

Here's what the rest of the internet says...

I watch you sometimes on Youtube, I'll watch and see if this becomes a video.

I'd say Galidor for sure!

Scala too!

And maybe Castle 2013

the Hoth Attack/Assualt on Hoth sets, and last year's Winter Village set.

Those are the most hated sets.... by you

Construct-a-Zurg and Space Skulls are often joked about on the Brickset forum.

Also Market Street- There is an unending discussion about wether it is part of the modular series and how ugly it is, or isn't. It is also expensive on the aftermarket and expensive to Bricklink due to a few rare parts. It leaves some people feeling their collection is incomplete and that they will have to spend a lot of money for something they don't really want if they want to complete the collection.

I'm obviously focused on licensed, so I think in terms of the most hated Superhero set it would be either Electro/Spider-'Trike' (the one with four wheels) or more likely: Mandarin Golfcart, which has become a broadly known synonymous description for any terribly inaccurate set.

I must echo the discontent for the Hobbit Battle of Five Armies. Before the photos and description came out, everyone was hoping it would be an army builder type set where you could buy multiples to create a nice sized army and city of Dale. What you got was a rehash of the bad guy leader, two grunt orcs, a Thorin that should have been in the Lonely Mountain set, a Bard that was already in another set-just a different torso, Dain, the other unique character whose helmet could not be modified to make other generic Iron Hills dwarves, an eagle, and yet another Legolas rather than an elf soldier or even the armored version of Thranduil. It was massively disappointing and likely the only reason most people bought it was to get the Thorin with crown and Dain. It could have been so much more........

Anything from Galidor.

True. But I still have all my Galidor sets lying around. As they say, "keep your enemies closer" :)

A lot of the Bionicle fans hate Solek (and his Av-Matoran kin) from 2008. Bland build, and far too expensive.

Wow, I'm loving a lot of these pointed out! The video is for the most controversial sets- I wanted to include a few that are controversial in LEGO fan communities. I had almost all of the list done, I just had about two more spaces- which I'll probably put Comic Con exclusives, and even Minecraft up... those are some interesting posts on other sites.

But hey, let's keep 'em coming! I didn't think the thread would be as interesting as it is now! :sweet:

Those are the most hated sets.... by you

...true.

Oh, are you not a fan? Gee, I hadn't heard.

Well, there was a lot of controversy surrounding the theme, since we all thought we were getting another Castle theme.

I'm not the only one who was disappointed. Far from it.

I'd also say Knights Kingdom 2.
