why hasn't anyone mentioned... Thor and Hawkeye vs. the Hydra Go-Cart of Doom

They're multiplying… soon the reign of the go-carts will be upon us and we will have to bow before our flame-throwing overlords...

There have been mentions of the time period and of KKII, but no one has specifically called out the 3 disappointing "modular" Disney-shaped raised baseplate castles:

Those are awesome. They need to do things like that again.

What is it that is hated? Is it the baseplate? I personally like raised baseplates, but I can understand why some people do not.

I believe the Simpsons cmf series and Lego Movies cmf got also a fairly amount of bad critics from the cmf fans, even the monster cmf series for not being a regular cmf series.

I'm not really sure what his particular problem is with these castles, although the fact that he referred to all the castles that had that same baseplate, but not the other raised baseplate castles makes me think he's referring to the baseplate itself.

All the castles that use that baseplate are open-backed castles, which people were annoyed with back in 2000. The 2004 version people might have been annoyed with as well, but they were so up in arms about the jelly-bean knights that they didn't really mention the open-backed issue very much. And when 2006 came around with "King's Castle", they had already accepted the fact that the large Ninja castle, Knight's Kingdom (1) castle, Knight's Kingdom (2) castle, and Vladek's Fortress had all been open-backed. Plus, the 2006 version didn't have the jelly-bean knights, so they were pretty happy.

Generally, however, I don't think any of those were really candidates for "most hated". If I had to pick a jelly-bean set that was "most hated" it would probably have been The Grand Tournament:

... Although you could make a case for any of the "large figures", too:

Regarding those 3 castles, not so much hated, they are typically liked a lot less than the other castles. Not due to having open backs or a particular baseplate, but from a combination of the negatives in relying on raised baseplates, moving away from the more common castle shape (eg 80s-90s castles - castles since have reverted to the earlier shape) and if you build these castles you'll find there's not much to the build. (You could say the same thing of some older castles, but it seemed the combination of factors makes these 3 very low on the list of most loved.)

I have all of the castles bar the yellow & 2006 sets, I like open & closed, raised & non-raised, old & new, and I rate these 3 similar castles down near the bottom of the pile, which seems to be the trend.

I guess it's not such a big 'thing' since there are far more heinous crimes in the castle department, as evidenced by Dave

Bioncle. Easily my most hated LEGO. I don't even consider it LEGO.

You're right, "Bioncle" is not a Lego product.

Whoa. Good one. I guess you showed me.

Ah! You totally got him back!

These kinds of sarcastic exchanges are what make Eurobricks great.

Loads of wonderful parts though.

True, I just picked up a few Ash Attackers. But now I have useless parts, like the helmets, horns, and spiky shoulders. I'll use at least 1 head when I get my Imp Costume from the new CMFs.

Also got some of the new shield pieces.

But aside from some good parts, it's a contentious theme.

I really love nexo knights. I think it's a great series with the best baddies. And if i was a kid i would be all over them. I think only some conservative sour afols dont like nexo knights because they want castles and medieval stuff.

I really wonder how Nexo Knights are doing sales wise. It would be really amusing if a NK set ended up on the best selling list in 2016.

It wouldn't surprise me at all. They were flying off the shelves last time I was in the Lego store. I reckon half of all 12 and under boys in the store were buying NK sets. It looks like the new Ninjago to me.

I'm waiting for 1/3 off before buying though.

I really like Nexo Knights and am on the fence about buying into it. Knowing me, I'd go in for a lot and I just don't know if I have the collection space right now for another theme. If the ultimate packs were a little cheaper that could help, because one of my focuses would be army-building.

Out here the Nexo Knights sets are consistently selling out. Like it or not, it's not going anywhere.

Fortrex is a dead LOCK to make the list next year.

Chaos Catapult is a great parts pack for historic builders, with ninety useful brown and trans-orange parts, as well as a lava monster that is generic enough to mass army build.

Nexo Knights... Such a let-down....

Agreed. Terrible.

I guarantee you only feel this strongly about NK because there's no "real" Castle theme out right now. I can assure you that it's more then likely it comes back next year or the year after. Maybe then we can finally unpin the Lotr thread. :sadnew:

At the LEGO Store near me (and the 2 TRUs), they don't seem to be selling many at all.

Nexo Knights? really?

With the likes of Galidor out there, you guys pick Nexo Knights for a most hated theme. Before even the first season sales are in. You are ridiculous, yes, we all get it, Lego failed to put out some boring gray castle with sticks and dying of dysentery at the ripe old age of twelve and all your dreams are crushed and... it's pretty funny actually. :D

The late 90s and early 00s where everything was one piece and badly planned.

...

Also this was $76 and I remember it being hated....

Thanks for this, that is a baffling set, everything is so simplified.

The problem with threads like this is that some people are not satisfied with just having a chuckle at blunders like Galidor and oversimplified 2000 era town, but instead have to pick on their pet peeves and recent disappointments. To me this just leads to bickering and is not really good for the forum's sense of community.
