Bricknblue Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Thanks for this, that is a baffling set, everything is so simplified. The problem with threads like this is that some people are not satisfied with just having a chuckle at blunders like Galidor and oversimplified 2000 era town, but instead have to pick on their pet peeves and recent disappointments. To me this just leads to bickering and is not really good for the forum's sense of community. It's why I picked old sets. Like I said elsewhere here I hate the uncreative fire stations of modern times, but they aren't hated by everyone. That city set was hated by everyone I knew, I even remember back then. And that 'police station' is a release! Of all the awesome police sets of the 90s to release they picked that horrid set! Those sets oddly enough made me enter a 'dark age', which is odd. Most think it's caused by growing up, to me it was just so many bad sets from 1997-2002ish. Quote
kibosh Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 I guarantee you only feel this strongly about NK because there's no "real" Castle theme out right now. I can assure you that it's more then likely it comes back next year or the year after. Maybe then we can finally unpin the Lotr thread. I guarantee you are wrong, but thanks for playing. I'm not a huge "real" castle fan, and I feel LotR had run it's course. My problems with NK are the terrible designs, colors, and the idea. I driving tank castle? A giant mechanical horse? No thanks. And the oversized mini figures. Just terrible. This whole line feels more like Megabloks. Quote

I might just be a sucker for all the translucent bricks though... Quote

Take your ill-will to Bionicle, Ninjago, China and Nexo Knights; place it on the scape goat of Galidor. When this thread dies we will chuck Galidor to the edge of the village, and hope it never comes back" Edited March 8, 2016 by xboxtravis7992 Quote

So, my guess would be that you probably have similar feelings regarding other similar themes like Ninjago and Chima? That is, I think a lot of people tend to have a negative reaction to the building style and thematic elements (being character-based for younger kids). Personally, I don't see what's objectionable about a tank/castle or a robotic horse (per se). They're interesting ideas that we don't usually see, so it's cool. But my suspicion would be that your reaction was more about the silliness and "kid-ish-ness" of the themes. Would you have similar distaste for, say, the 70804 Ice Cream Machine from the LEGO Movie (which was similarly ridiculous)? Anyway, just curious. DaveE Quote
Electricsteam Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 I really disliked the hero factory series, well after it introduced the new bionicle system. CBCC or what ever it's called doesn't seen like it has as many building possibilities because everything is made for ball joints on light saber pegs. The new bionicle relaunch is nice though. Really wish they would bring back the mouth hole thing head design. It's hard to stick onto things without a peg or a stud of some sort Quote

While I am a fan of Castle and feel that we were led to believe that we would get Castle sets (and yes, it was a disappointment), I am also simply not a fan of Nexo Knights. I appreciate that they were trying something different, but I do not like what they tried. The ideas are, in my opinion, awful. Quote
BrickJagger Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 While I am a fan of Castle and feel that we were led to believe that we would get Castle sets We've been over this. This thread is already pretty much a flame war, but you've said this like, fifty times. It's been well established that you do not like NK, and while you really aren't "bashing" its fans, you seem to like to talk about your distaste for it more then you talk about anything else. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 If you were simply not a fan you wouldn't take every opportunity to bang on about how much you dislike it. I'm going to have to third the point that instead of this being a chance to discuss past acknowledged mistakes, it seems to be the place for the sourpusses to come and complain about the current line-up. x105Black Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Who led you to believe that? Well, early reports were about a Castle theme that was similar to Fantasy Era. This turned out to be Nexo Knights, which is anything but. As I mentioned earlier, I was far from the only one disappointed about this. I'm not trying to cut down the theme just on that alone. My post was about disliking the theme based on what it is. And I'm not just trying to find any chance to tear it down. This thread is about hated sets and those that caused controversy, so I felt that this was an appropriate place to discuss my feelings. I strongly dislike Nexo Knights, and acknowledge the controversy it created when announced. Is this thread for discussing sets you hate, or discussing the opinions of others that you disagree with? To the original poster, I apologize that this thread has become derailed by the disagreement (controversy) surrounding Nexo Knights. I think this is an interesting topic. I will endeavor to keep from any further discussion of the theme in this thread. Quote

The controversy seems to have come from people hearing their was a Castle theme, then projecting their own views of what it would contain then finding out it was more action than Castle. I don't think LEGO ever said it was going to be like Fantasy Era, so was it just people speculating on what it shoudl contain. Quote

I don't think LEGO ever said it was going to be like Fantasy Era, so was it just people speculating on what it shoudl contain. It was a LEGO Store employee (or manager, or something) who indicated it would be like Fantasy Era. But let's get back on topic. What LEGO sets do you hate? I'm not a fan of Star Wars. So you know what I do? I stay the hell out of discussions about Star Wars. As appiah4 put it, this is not a discussion about Nexo Knights. That said, I had a lot of interest in whatever LEGO was considering their next Castle theme. And when I saw that it was not a Castle theme, I was disappointed. And when I saw what we were getting instead, I was not happy with it. There are things I like about it, and I do try to keep positive in most threads concerning the theme, but overall I find it to be a let-down. But please, I shouldn't feel the need to explain myself. Let's get back on topic. What LEGO sets do you hate? Quote
BlockLogo Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 this is not a discussion about Nexo Knights? It kind of is now, though. Quote
x105Black Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 It kind of is now, though. Then maybe we should, I don't know, get back on topic or something? Quote
x105Black Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 I hate minecraft. Fair enough. I love the game, and the sets have some appeal, but I also find that some of the sets are more expensive per piece than other themes. I hate that about them. Quote
appiah4 Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Minecraft is an odd one.. It's like, Lego, the Video Game.. And then there is the Miecraft Lego line.. You know, kind of like Street Fighter The Movie The Game.. in that, yes, it's pretty terrible. Quote
MAB Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 What LEGO sets do you hate? I don't hate any. There are quite a lot that I wouldn't buy at RRP as I don't like them, but I would buy for parts if they were cheap enough on sale. All lego sets are lego. As they can be made into other things it is hard to hate them. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Indeed. There is a real divide between collectors and builders. A set collector finds fault with a set design or theme style. Most builders see a bunch of parts in new colours, new parts and extra of the current lot of parts. Quote
Zoshi Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 What about the old Spongebob sets? I have the Krusty Krab Adventures set and it's got to be my least favorite that I own… It's just a frame resembling the Krusty Krab and I don't understand why more detail seemingly went into the vehicle than the actual Krusty Krab. However, I've seen some Spongebob sets that look good, like Spongebob's pineapple house. Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I dont' have any sets that I hate actualy... I find every set usefull at least for pieces. Yeah there are many sets I think are badly designed and Iven I could design them better, but as I said, for me there is no bad sets whatsoever. Quote
