Hi,

I'm looking for a way to disassemble a large shock absorber, without causing any damage. I want to place a soft spring on a yellow/black shock absorber, which is originally equiped with a hard spring.

Has anybody experience with this? Any help is very much appreciated.

Regards,

Diederik

It can be done but very awkward.

The black part has a forked end with two lugs that stop it coming apart.

Disassembled one today by using two toolmakers flat screwdrivers with a blade width of 1mm.

You need to compress the two lugs at the same time in order for it to slide out of the yellow tube - the spring helps.

Best if you can clamp unit in a vice - otherwise you need three hands !!

Brickshelf user Netbulli made a tool to swap spring out of standard parts: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=432545

Tried this method but used a small modellers vice to grip the end with cross axle hole, then wriggled the other end whilst pulling HARD and out it came OK.

I'd be careful, lest some piece go flying off under the couch.

Thanks! I will try this method.
