Flipz Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 (edited) OOC: Sorry I haven't been active recently, I've been a little under the weather. "...The Regret didn't cut off my arm. It was on his island, sure, but it wasn't him. It was after we killed him... Boomingham did it." Gabriel gives mental projection a whirl, not sure if Miirym would receive his thoughts. <I hope you know that the person you are trying to prove yourself to may very well be dead by the night's end. The only gifts my blood gave me was severe mental illness - that I only fixed a couple months ago - and throwing me out with the bathwater. So I can somewhat relate. But your actions will not be controlled by your blood. And that is what will define you. Play your cards right, and even if dragons are the most wretched things to exist - which they aren't, by the way - people will still see you as a "hero" or a protector or whatever the hell you want to be. My "mate", huh? Hah. Looks like someone was watching the little scene at the HQ... Or is it that obvious?> "...oh." In truth, Arthur did not know what to say. While he had shared some of Karie's dislike of the man ever since their mission together, enough time had passed that he'd almost dismissed his past grudge. Now, Arthur felt his contempt for the man rising once more, and his faith in Heroica crumbling just that little bit further. He drinks a Mead to soothe his fraying resolve, a vain attempt to drown the doubts growing within him.. "<I may well be dead by night's end...or, I may have to live with my choices for a thousand generations. In either case, I wish not to have any regrets.>" Miirym allows herself a faint grin of satisfaction at Gabriel's own self-ignorance. "<Mortals. So reliant on sight, you oft forget scent. As far as Dragons go, anyone with a nose can see you two are bonded.>" She frowns. "<Anyone. Hmm. ...Remain in alertness, Gabriel. For all her armor, I fear your mate's weak point is grievously unguarded, save by your own vigilance.>" Jinnipher turned her nose up at the venom. "There's nothing worth the cost here. Let's go." "I'd tend to agree. I'd much rather spend my money on bombs..." Miirym moves back to Arthur, as the others begin to complain of the prices of the Toxiproggs' wares. Throughout their whining, she and Arthur both grow visibly more angry, culminating as the Toxiproggs and Solon and Fydelle confirm their own thoughts. "In the mean time, we may have to sneak the lot of you out.[/b] The public is pretty riled up, and they have a couple of good reasons." "<I should think so!>" "With damn good reason!" Arthur and Miirym practically shout, in near-unison, almost at the same time as Karie lets loose her own verbal jab. Both lapse into a few seconds of silence at their own outbursts, before Arthur speaks to Anemos. "It's fine, Anemos. We appreciate your assistance anyway, I'm just sorry things had to turn out the way they did, especially considering how it all came to naught in the end." Arthur resists the urge to scowl at the rest of the party, instead stalking onward in an extremely foul mood. And despite her being nothing but helpful, the Dragoon's coldest shoulder is clearly towards the Falconer. "'Heroes'. Hmpf." The two words are all he can be heard to mutter, but in context they speak volumes. Edited June 8, 2016 by Flipz Quote
Kintobor Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Karie shuddered as Arthur began his verbal assault on the party. Despite knowing the brunt of his words were not aimed at her, she still felt guilty. She felt heavy, her decision to let the party majority win out despite her obvious protest deepening the pit in her stomach. If she had put her foot down earlier this whole fiasco could've been avoided. She was stuck backing a losing side, just as she always seemed to be ever since her encounter with Dyric and Thothwick. "A few raised prices and some public discontent are more than a fair trade for their lives." "I don't think you get it, Jinn." Karie states accusatorily, "They are angry at you because you put their houses under a massive amount of water! They are angry at you because you have effectively left them homeless! Even if we stop Immortalis, your sheepish decision has left them without shelter!" Quote

Lind Whisperer Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 "Thank you for your patronage. We apologize for raised prices. Our prospective home was recently flooded, you see, and we needed to raise prices to compensate for new arrangements." says one Toxiprogg with barely held politeness, betraying that the Progg probably knew exactly who he was talking to. The Black Knight bowed. "My apologies, and that is quite a reasonable reason.I am sure the Progg leaders have your housing conditions well in mind, and are even now trying to figure out how to better them." "I don't like being "that guy", but I told you so." Karie exclaims to the group at large. "I voted for swimming." "Clearly they have no grasp on how to run a business. Homeless proggs won't be buying any overpriced venom. Supply and demand." "True. Unless things get exceptionally bad. In which case, they'll be wanting to arm themselves..."In the background, the mob continued to grow louder, while the party continued to in-fight. Sighing, the Black Knight went to the edge of the path, and took a very deep breath. "ATTENTION." The intimidating voice of the Black Knight rang out loudly in the cave. It was not a cruel note that he reached, but it was a note that demanded attention. "Thank you for your attention. For starters, I would like to say that I was of the party that did not support flooding the cave. I deeply regret the - temporary - destruction of your homes, and your current lost state. However, the moment was a difficult one. We could either lose excessive amounts of time reaching Billow - with the potential loss of hundreds, if not thousands of Progg lives - or we could flood the tunnel, temporarily obstruct the housing process, and keep all of you alive, and safe. I thought that we could take the first one, and escape the loss; others thought that the second one was safer. In the end, the choice was made to keep your lives safe, at the cost to homes. The Progg leaders are sorry - the party is sorry - I am sorry - but in the end, it was decided, that your lives were more valuable than your homes. The lives of you...the lives of your wives...and the lives of your children. All claims will be dealt with in time. The housing project will be finished, and the colony will once more be on the road to prosperity. Please, do not let the situation deteriorate even further, by resulting to mob violence. It will not bring you any benefit, and will only bring harm to your family, by further delaying and hampering the Progg leaders' ability to repair the situation." Quote

I am trying to do what I can to defuse it one way or the other - whether it is through calming the people down, or at the very least, letting the people to understand that this was not a decision the Progg leaders made lightly. If worst comes to worst, they may turn that anger on us, but after we walked through that encounter with an immortal dragon's most powerful angels, I cannot imagine a handful of Proggs is going to slow us down that tremendously - and certainly not any more than another sequence of "who has the moral high ground"." Hopefully. You want to be "heroes"? Fine. Let's "be heroes". Heroes don't run away from a mess they've made. And you all definitely made this one." He sighed, and looked out over the crowd. Next time, don't destroy someones' house, and think that it doesn't matter. All actions have consequences, and they should be faced..." He tilted his head. "Hmm. Even I'm learning from this." He nodded at Karie. "You know, you're right. Arthur was on a high horse, but where he was coming from was correct. "How many times have almost all of you said nearly those exact words?" He pointed at Karie. "You keep talking about 'teaching him a thing or two,' or however you put it.But, suddenly, when anything involves you, you have the right to just do whatever you want, and no one has any right to stop or chastise you. You people are hypocrites. 'These people need housing? Oh, it doesn't matter. Let's just take the easy way - no worries, no one will find out what happened, or who did it.' At least Immortalis has the dragon genitals to openly admit who he is, and what he does, and why he does it. You people are cowards." He glared at the group. "Yes, I'm sure I'm "jeopardizing the mission," by first trying to calm the situation, and then forcing you to confront what you've done. But you know what? Frankly, a rule under Immortalis would be better than this system of "Heroism". At least he cares about people, and will openly discuss what he's doing and why. You people just do what you want, and don't care a fig about the aftermath, or the people involved. You just want to be the shining knights in armor that defeat the big nasty dragon. Well, congratulations - to these people, YOU are the big nasty dragons." Quote

I believe the human phrase is 'two wrongs make not a right', yes?>" Karie eyes Thormanil's dragon as it swats at Lind, pointing at it. "Unless you want your pet walking funny for a week, I'd advise to keep it under control. My boot could easily find it's way lodged into your dragon's megablocks." Karie replied sternly. She was going to keep this group together even if it killed her, although she hoped it didn't come to that. Arthur moves near Karie, attempting a somewhat soothing tone. "Don't beat yourself up, Karie. With this group...I mean, what are we, a team? No, no, no. We're a chemical mixture that makes chaos. We're... we're a time-bomb. Best-case scenario, we get it to blow up someone who deserves it, rather than someone who doesn't." Edited June 8, 2016 by Flipz Quote
