Robert8 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Disneyworld -> Cinderella's Castle Disneyland -> Sleeping Beauty's Castle Quote
strangely Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 (edited) There's no argument to be made against the iconography of the park but I just don't see why LEGO would make a Disney set based on the original theme park rather than based on one of the Walt Disney Classics. The problem with making it based on an attraction is it becomes a souvenir and not many people who haven't been to the original Disneyland are likely to buy it. It would become more of a niche product only really good for selling at Disney theme parks, whereas a lot more people will have seen the original Cinderella film at some point in their lives and even if they haven't a live action remake came out only last year. I know what you're going to say: many go to Disneyland. And yes, they do. But it will still be a vast minority compared to the amount of people who have seen the Walt Disney Classics. First off, not Disneyland. The castle at Disneyland is Sleeping Beauty Castle. It's Disney World that has the Cinderella Castle. Second, it's hardly a souvenir. That castle happens to be their logo and has been for quite some time. Beyond that the Disney World park is featured often on television and is a very recognizable landmark. People who have never been to the park know that castle. Third, the castle from the animated movie has already been done in Lego. That particular castle has appeared in a Princess set already. It seems unlikely they'd do another version of the exact same castle again. Fourth, our extremely reliable source has already confirmed it to be the Disney World Cinderella Castle. This is not a Cinderella set, it's a Disney set. Move on. Edited April 17, 2016 by strangely Quote
LEGODalekbuster523 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Well it allows them to certain characters that we might have missed in the mini figure series such as goofy. With the classic it would limit there choices for characters It would make much more sense though given the name. I imagine there would be a lot of confusion if a Cinderella's Castle set didn't feature Cinderella. What about anybody who has seen a film made or distributed by Disney any time recently that features a live-action-looking Disney castle logo? What about all the kids who will see a fun-looking castle with a lot of Disney character favorites and won't care 'where they saw it before'? There are plenty of arguments either way for what it could be. A Disneyland park castle with disparate characters is in no way a niche novelty item that would only sell as a park souvinier, but we shall see what it turns out to be. The point in question was a set based off the original Disneyland (sorry...Disney World but I don't see how it matters anyway, they're all Disney theme parks) not that LEGO/Disney would say it's a set based off the logo. My point is I can't see LEGO releasing a set based off a theme park because it's never going to mean much to those of us who haven't been to the original Disneyl -whatever. First off, not Disneyland. The castle at Disneyland is Sleeping Beauty Castle. It's Disney World that has the Cinderella Castle. Seriously, we're nitpicking over a name now when most likely call all Disney theme parks Disneyland anyway? Second, it's hardly a souvenir. It is if it is based specifically on a theme park. Third, the castle from the animated movie has already been done in Lego. That particular castle has appeared in a Princess set already. It seems unlikely they'd do another version of the exact same castle again. Not outside of the Disney Princesses line for girls. There isn't an adult minifigure D2C one that would be appealing to many as it would make a nice gift for mothers and women in general as opposed to just young girls. Fourth, our extremely reliable source has already confirmed it to be the Disney World Cinderella Castle. This is not a Cinderella set, it's a Disney set. Move on. Actually, he said he assumed it was not that it definitely is. Quote

Actually, he said he assumed it was not that it definitely is. Maybe I can clear this up. 1st: Yes it matters which park it is. The castles are completely different from each other. It will mean a lot to any little girl who wants a big princess castle in Lego regardless if it is affiliated with Disney and wether they have seen it. AFOLs will like this if it is a big detailed well thought out castle. Ordinary consumers, same deal. If they know the castle, even better. Do they need Cinderella? Yes. It is her castle. Without it, it's just a nice castle. The names matter. Disney is very specific in Disneyland and Disneyworld. Location is different. Disneyword is different though the main park has similarities to Disneyland. Disneyworld is also 10x as big ecpesially if you include all the extra parks. Details like this matter. Quote
strangely Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 (edited) Actually, he said he assumed it was not that it definitely is. Read the quote again: I think I mentioned I assumed it was the Disneyworld Cinderella castle because I asked my source if it was that castle and he said yep. He assumed it was because his source said it was. So far, based on the information we have it's leaning toward the Disney World castle rather than the animated movie. In addition to that there's the Tinkerbell rumor too, which also points to Disney World. Edited April 17, 2016 by strangely Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 (edited) Disneyland is a theme park. Walt Disney World (the name "Walt" is in fact part of the full name; it's three separate words) is much, much more than just a park; it's a colossal, sprawling resort that encompasses four separate theme parks (the Magic Kingdom, which all by itself is analogous to Disneyland, plus Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom), plus two water parks, a massive sports complex, golf courses, hotels, etc. One reason this is an important distinction with regards to the LEGO set concerns this: There's no argument to be made against the iconography of the park but I just don't see why LEGO would make a Disney set based on the original theme park rather than based on one of the Walt Disney Classics. Actually, I'm not so sure. Millions of people visit the parks each year, including many people who've never seen all the Disney classics, and I actually think it's entirely possible there are more people who know Cinderella's castle from its place in the Magic Kingdom at WDW than who know it from the actual movie. It's emblematic of not only that park (the oldest part of WDW), but by extension, of WDW in general, and the parks move a lot of merchandise - I mean, more than you could possibly imagine. I could totally see TLG producing sets specifically for sale at WDW - even large and expensive ones, and even ones that might or might not even be sold in TLG's own stores. In other words, while a castle themed specifically around the movie remains a possibility, one themed around the parks not only can't be ruled out, I think it's actually fairly likely - possibly likelier than a straight movie version. CM4Sci Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 I just saw The Jungle Book - was that castle in the beginning the Sleeping Beauty castle? Quote
Falconfan1414 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 I looked it up and I am 90% sure it is not sleeping beauty Quote
Captain Nemo Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Just saw the film too, and after clarifying with Google--yes it was Sleeping Beauty's castle design (surprising that it was used), but it seemed slightly recolored, at least compared to the theme park design; but this is all off topic. Just note everyone: let's not argue about which castle it will be please. We know next to nothing about the set as a whole, so there's no point in getting worked up over nothing. Thanks! Quote
CM4Sci Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 I don't know either; I'll ask my source if he can find out. Quote
Oky Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 I can almost guarantee that this castle wont be based on the movie. They already made one for the princess line which is still available and if this is supposed to go together with the Disney CMFs (which it obviously is) it would only make sense to have it based on the park so you can put the figs in and around it. As for which park it is based on, I don't really care. They both look good to me. I would think the Sleeping Beauty one would be more iconic since it's what they use for their logo and Disneyland came first, but the WDW/Cinderella one is larger and would therefore make for a more impressive D2C set. Either way, I just hope it's a good looking set. I hope this sells well so that we can get more Disney sets. Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 This sounds like such a cool set! Can't wait to see what it looks like. Quote

It's will make a more impressive set that will also sell a lot better an appeal to a lot more people. Quote
Lego Dino 500 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I'm not 100% into Disney Princess stuff, but this set sounds really appealing. I'd rather it be the Sleeping Beauty one, but ultimately the differences are as cosmetic as they are colloquial. Quote

The DP castle was based off the parks, the castle in the film was pure white and had an avalanche of steps going up to it. Quote
CM4Sci Posted April 18, 2016 Author Posted April 18, 2016 (edited) Ok, I've got confirmation that it's the Cinderella one! And apparently it's huge. Panel pieces and all. Edited April 18, 2016 by CM4Sci Quote
Ondra Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 This set have potential to be something as Death Star set to star wars and scifi fans.Disney Cinderella castle is castle without mistakes,it looks superb and has romantic vibe it can appeal to many fans of lego including classic castle fans.I think some big classic castle will be problem to sell in many copies, but world most recognizable castle is something different. I only hope lego didnt mess this up, like some 2016 D2C .Rather more ghostbusters HQ scheme, than Hoth base scheme if you ask me. Quote

Well all the d2c sets that have been actual exterior contained structures have worked out well. batcave and hoth base are harder to make into a great display piece cause its not something self contained to begin with Quote

Tariq j Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Yes! There's a lot of potential here, I'm looking forward to seeing what figures we may get. Quote
CM4Sci Posted April 18, 2016 Author Posted April 18, 2016 (edited) More news! Incomplete list of figures: - New Mickey with bowtie - New Minnie with red polka dot dress - New Daisy with darker lavender outfit? - Donald Duck - Tinkerbell Maybe there's more, but for now I don't know.
