rob-ot5000 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 (edited) What about anybody who has seen a film made or distributed by Disney any time recently that features a live-action-looking Disney castle logo? What about all the kids who will see a fun-looking castle with a lot of Disney character favorites and won't care 'where they saw it before'? There are plenty of arguments either way for what it could be. A Disneyland park castle with disparate characters is in no way a niche novelty item that would only sell as a park souvinier, but we shall see what it turns out to be. Ding, ding, ding! Winner! The only version of the castle(s) I know is the one from the logo. I've always assumed it's been the same castle in the logo throughout the years, though I don't know the source material it comes from. It's just the Disney Castle, to me. If you showed me the different castles being discussed here, I'd be really hard-pressed to say whether I knew which was which, or even which one I remembered from the logo. The price is where they'll lose me on this one, no matter where it clocks in. I wouldn't pay $150-200 for a incomplete, insufficient looking model, but neither am I committed enough to the theme/source/company/etc to shell out $400 for an awesome looking model of the Disney castle. As someone who likes drooling over awesome new Lego products, though, I'd rather they go the latter route, just so I can stare for hours online at all the cool details and suffer occasional pangs of envy toward the people who have it. No matter which course they choose, I definitely think it will sell, and I'm looking forward to more details. As for the minifigures. Tinkerbell sounds cool, and would be a big draw. I fear seeing what she'll go for on the secondary market. I'm still not convinced we'll see Goofy or Pluto. Goofy seems like he'd be a better fit for the second wave of Disney CMFs. I can't remember if that's been actually confirmed yet, but it seems pretty confirmed in everyone's minds, right? But Pluto......no idea. He's not even a real planet anymore. EDIT: Oops, forget there were 4 more pages of discussion left before I commented. Sorry if this isn't timely or relevant anymore. Edited April 18, 2016 by rob-ot5000 Quote
deskp Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 come on there wont be any more theme park licensed sets for disney. This set is casue the castle is super special, even if it sells tremendously that wouldn't not reflect in any way what other disney parks sets would do. Quote

Each Simpsons series was released with a Simpsons D2C set Same with Disney Series 1 If Disney Series 2 happens, which is very likely, there will be another Disney D2C next year Quote
CM4Sci Posted April 18, 2016 Author Posted April 18, 2016 I doubt there will be another Disney D2C next year. Quote
strangely Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I don't know that I see them doing another D2C next year. Personally I'd rather that they do regular sets rather than just one yearly set. Quote
LegoMcBoss2004 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 If they licensed Disney for the Series and this set then there's a chance that they could start a line for the animated movies or the park rides and stuff. Personally I would want the movies for a bunch of new molds and prints for the characters but the parks could be the same. Overall this set sounds amazing but I think they will do multiple sets next year. Quote
Agent 86 Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Awesome news. My personal preference was for Sleeping Beauty's Castle over Cinderella's Castle, but I'll be happy with ANY Disney Castle (with the possible exception of the Shanghai Castle since it's not tied to any single Princess). I hope that it is a fully enclosed / four walled castle and not just the front façade. Quote
brick-fu Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Well, you couldn't combine two more rabid and loyal fan bases if you tried. If Lego does this right, and makes a good, detailed castle with a nice interior and perhaps a Walt Disney mini figure, I don't think the price is going to matter. I would personally rather see them go towards the upper end of the spectrum and give us a set with at least 2,000-2,500 pieces. Again, if it is done right, I would shell out $350-400 for it. In case you didn't know, there is a deluxe suite inside the Cinderella Castle at WDW, as well as a dining hall area. Both of these could be represented in the set. I can honestly see this as the beginning of an entire line of Disney theme park sets. I mean what Disney fan wouldn't want a haunted mansion set complete with a hatbox ghost and hitchhiking ghosts mini figures? Or how about a WDW railroad train set? Perhaps a Main Street USA series of modular buildings? I know this sounds far fetched to some, but I think the power of the Disney fan base is being under estimated. Lego is testing the waters here, and time will tell how this all plays out. I for one am extremely excited! Quote

strangely Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 (edited) As for scale, think of this - the Windows are smaller than that should be for Minifigures. It's not HUGE. That's probably as it should be. Even the actual castle is smaller than it looks, they use force perspective to achieve the size it appears to be. I'm just now thinking that ultimately if this does include Cinderella they'd likely have to create a new hairpiece for her as the Princess version of the hair is very different (It's not even really the right color either, she's more of a strawberry blonde in the movie). I mean they fixed Ariel's hair, so I'm doubting that any of the Princess hair will transition to the regular minifigure sets. Simpsons got a new mold in the last set, I'd assume if this set needs a new mold it'll get it. I am looking forward to how they create the detailing of this castle, there's a lot of gold detailing and arches. Props to whichever designer has taken this on. TomKraut Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 That's probably as it should be. Even the actual castle is smaller than it looks, they use force perspective to achieve the size it appears to be. Even though, the castle is still almost 60m tall (according to Wikipedia, I have never seen it IRL). So, assuming Minifigure scale is somewhere between 1:60 and 1:30 (that's a year long discussion due to the fact that Minifigures have really weird proportions), it would be between.... 1 to 2 meters tall!!! My guess is, the only thing they can do to make this a set that anyone can afford to buy, it would have to be Landmark Series scale, like Tower Bridge and Sydney Opera House. Which is fine with me, as long as it looks good. It still works as a backdrop for displaying the CMF series. Cheers TomKraut Quote
Awesome Bricks Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Really hoping for a Disney World sets. Like possibly a Macy's Parade set or something like that. Quote
0tter Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 (edited) I don't know why anyone would be anti-facade. Surely that is the only way to get a sufficiently tall and detailed set. Even interiors will necessitate a compromise in the presence of this thing when viewed from the front (which is all its inspiration needs to do). (Also just signed up to be involved in this discussion... a September release will conincide beautifully with my wife's birthday (she's gonna flip!).) EDIT: Sorry, that sounded really snarky (especially for a first post), I know why people might be anti-facade, I just think it would be best if this one was just a facade. brick-fu Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Just because there is only a facade, doesn't mean there can't be a detailed interior. Just look at the tower of orthanc set or bilbo's house from the hobbit line. I think that would really be the ideal situation, a detailed large facade with some interior details on the back. Quote

I think that this is the most likely scenario to happen. To keep it at a somewhat reasonable price point I would imagine that it will just be a very detailed looking facade. Which to be honest the front is the most recognizable part of the castle anyway. Quote
strangely Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 (edited) I assume there will be some interior, but I think it'll be more like the Hogwarts sets where mostly there's just a couple of pieces of furniture and a few props. I could see maybe one or two rooms on the inside, but then everything else just being facade. I'd guess the entryway and balcony will be minifigure sized. On the interior maybe a few of the mosaics, a throne and some stickered wall panels. As to scale I'd prefer that the ground floor be scaled like a playset, so the minifigures don't look huge next to it, but then all the floors above can get smaller to give the illusion it's bigger (Similar of course to how the actual building creates it's immense scale). Tech Artist Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 (edited) Couldn't they do something like this: Original creator but include interior details somehow? Perhaps end up building it on a hinge that opens? Or make it so some sections open or have doors here and there? I am not saying go this massive or this detailed as that likely wouldn't be possible but something similar at least. Edit: This is just an example. Don't fool yourself into thinking this is what Lego is going to do or anything of the sort. The price tag would just be too much for a set like this. The book would also be 5 inches thick. CM4Sci Posted April 19, 2016 Author Posted April 19, 2016 The front pillar... steeples at most are 4 wide. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 That model would probably cost upwards of a thousand dollars if sold as a set. I expect this Cinderella castle to be big, but not that big, and I hope other fans don't get their hopes up based on that picture. Quote
