That’s no Oleander Vessel!

Miles Bryan was awakened from his slumber on deck the Swift Packet by a shout.

“Oleander Vessel to the rear! Coming upfast!” Said Jym Hakins. The boy did have a good eye…

Miles came to the rear railing and immediately grabbed a musket.

“That ain’t no Oleander Vessel, son!” and he fired at the small skiff giving chase. He could see with his one good eye the blood stains on the Oleander uniforms. These were pirates! As if to confirm his suspicions, they unveiled their blue pirate flag.

“Haul up the main sail, let’s make some speed!” he yelled, they were only at half sail because the Pandora, their escort was chasing down a pirate, Pardisio that had given chase to the Saucy Jack, also in their flotilla. He was pretty sure he could have turned and let the long 6s blow the little craft out of the water, but he was light on crew and knew that handling the vessel and firing would be risky if the little skiff closed on them. He let off another musket shot and cursed at the pirates, but they were already pulling away from the blue bandits…

I was going to photoshop this last one to look like dusk... but yeah... got busy. I guess this is a skiff -- anyone want to buy a skiff? haha.

Nice little vessel. I like the little swivel gun and the idea of pirates using deception to capture their prey.

I'm rather concerned that Miles' first response upon hearing of possible Oleanders is to grab a musket. Sounds like he's spoiling for a fight.

Yes, nice little vessel. I must get one of those big/wide rowboats for something like this. They look great with a sail, as you've done.

I think the story is appropriate. Given that Oleon is hostile towards its superior neighbor, reaching for a gun at the sound of that awful name seems natural. :pir-wink:

Nice story and great way to present the MRCA result.

I think the small boat is really nice, and the Oleander-ruse is ís so typical - and a very good way to look harmless, eh? pirate_wink.gif

The rigging is of a somewhat interesting design, and for future smallcraft, I would suggest sticking to sloop, cutter or lateen rig, but this works fine too.

She has been found beached near Quinnsville, it seems the pirates wanted to ditch her after their rouse being discovered. Our shipwrights have restored her to sea worthy status, and it will live out his days as a peacefull fishing skiff.
