TitusV Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 (edited) This time, it is the interviewer himself who was so kind to anwer a few questions! 1) This question has been made a couple of times already, but I think the answer is different for everyone of us: what made you join Guilds of Historica? When GoH started, I wasn't very active in the online community, however, the Guilds sounded so exciting and inspiring that I joined up pretty quickly. As did most of Eurobricks it seems! 2) You've been in the GoH forum for a long time (over 4 years!). Which evolution have the Guilds seen since their first occurrence? What changes do you clearly remember? And do you like them? Given the time-frame the guilds have been running for, quite a lot of change should be expected. In Book I, towards the beginning especially, it seemed like the main challenges were run almost back to back, with very little free time in between. Now there's usually a good chunk of time between challenges to allow for freebuilds and mini-challenges. Guild rivalry was a huge motivator early on, but hasn't been as significant in Book II with the Gold tallies between guilds being done away with. Of course, there will always be competition between the guilds, but it doesn't seem as heated as it used to be. Guild leaders have been replaced, but I think that it's only fair to spread the administrative work of GoH between numerous people rather than letting just a few get burnt out by all that it takes to keep the Guilds going smoothly. So, I like the changes that GoH has gone through. It doesn't run at the same break-neck pace it used to, but that keeps builders from getting burnt out. 3) Ever since you joining the Guilds, you've been a true Mitgardian, and over time your style has become the perfect example of Northern architecture. But was it your style that made you Mitgardian, or Mitgardia that made your style? Mitgardia made my style for sure. Sirens of Titan and Ecclesiastes were huge inspirations for me early on. And I'm sure they, along with many other Mitgardian builders, played a large part in my style development. Besides that, I've always tried to come up with buildings/landscapes that fit well into the Mitgardian environment, often taking inspiration from Norse culture. 4) One of Mitgardia's main features is AoM, for which you have built a LOT. Some people have only just started though, do you have any advice for them? Don't be overcome by how many phases there are in the project. Instead, whenever you need inspiration for a new MOC, take a look through the list and see which ones you'd like to try. Enjoy developing each build in a series, and don't feel like you have to rush to complete them all. 5)Which aspect of the Guilds appeals the most to you, and what keeps you building? The camaraderie between builders in the guilds is always motivating. And there's already been so many amazing MOCs and stories created to develop GoH that's it's very easy to find inspiration. Collaborative efforts are one of the biggest highlights for me. 6) We all know I favor Nordheim Keep above all else, but which of your builds is your own favorite? Nordheim Keep is definitely high on the list, but I think that John and my recently completed Life in Nordheim layout is on top now. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=138658#entry2635102 Edited August 14, 2016 by TitusV Quote
The Maestro Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Great Interveiw, I always enjoy hearing what others have to say about the guild. Great questions titus :) Quote
MassEditor Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 (edited) These interviews are awesome! Mirrors a lot of why I joined and what inspires me about GoH. Kayne, it was awesome to hear from you again. You were one of the builders who inspired me to join. When are we gonna see you back in GoH, where you belong?!? And wow, this is the first I've seen of the Brick Magazine special on GoH (just checked out the digital edition). One of the writers asked me if they could use a pic or two of one of builds, but that was the last I'd heard. Despite a few typos and misinformation, this is truly an awesome feature. Definitely have to get me a physical copy, and not just because one of my builds made it on the cover! Edited August 26, 2016 by MassEditor Quote
Kayne Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Thanks ME! I still lurk....but it's just been a really busy year. I got a promotion in November which is great, but added a lot of responsibility and changed my location to a 60 mile drive each way. I just moved to another location which is closer, but summer is our busy time, so I am hoping as thing slow down to be able to finish up some of my projects that I've been working on. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 New interview! This time with Nocturnus' newest MOC Expert, Blufiji! 1) What was the biggest reason you decided on joining the guilds and Nocturnus? I've always been a fan of castle theme lego, and fantasy in general. In mid 2014, I started seeing castle themed builds on MOCpages with "Built for the GOH over on Eurobricks" tag under it and decided to check it out. I've always been a fan of castle theme lego, and fantasy in general, so when I found the guilds, I was sold. As for the reason I joined Nocturnus, I saw that it was the guild with the least membership (active and total), and for me personally, the most potential to challenge myself to be a better and more creative builder. 2) Have you experienced a GoH 'dark age' and if so, what brought you out of it? Not as of yet, but I'm sure it's coming sooner or later. 3) What are the main inspirations behind your builds? Any particular motivation behind your series of builds that focus on the same idea re-imagined in every guild? Lavenwood Vale (Avalonian Watchtower) Frost Spear (Mitgardian Watchtower) Endless Resolve (Nocturnus Watachtower) The Lonely Watch (Kaliphlin Watchtower) The main inspiration behind my builds is bringing great scenes to life with lego. I enjoy balancing lego landscaping with architecture, and creating builds that show that harmony with touches of realism. As to my motivation for re-imaging every build within the same guide, It's more of a way to A: pass the time between the challenges, B: To practice building a variety of landscapes and C: To take advantage of the openness of each guild. One of strongest aspects of GOH is that you can build in any guild you choose, regardless of membership. 4) Has GoH changed your part collection much? Are there some specific parts you find much more useful now than when you began Castle MOCing? My collection probably grew to 6 or 7 times it's original size since I joined, and after donating a huge number of parts and colors I saw myself not using, it's probably down to about 3 times the original size, 90 percent of which are geared toward Castle MOCing. As to your second question-curved slopes and masonry bricks..yea. 5) Which of your builds is your personal favorite, and why are you so fond of it? Evenfall Castle is my personal favorite, the reason being I feel like I reached a new personal plateau for several aspects of the build. 6) What is your favorite aspect of the Guilds, and are there any areas you would like to see further developed in the future? Definitely the imagination and lore that is put into each challenge. Though I've only participated in one challenge, I read through a few others and saw how the leadership took the time and thought to implement a cohesive story line and a fun set of challenges/battles to go with them. As far as improvement, just updating the guild pages is all I could think of at the moment. Thanks for your time, Blufiji! Quote
