Hello,

i don´t have much that white Bricks in Stock, first Bricklink order has arrived. 2470 used Bricks, mostly bricks, slopes, some tiles, some plates and modified.

my plan is a Hoth echo base moc, which will use parts of the new 75098 or just the minifigures of it.

:)

Ok Start - 02.03.2016 :)

As i got some bricks today i started a "concept" of the hangar supports - the problem are the slopes.

it´s a very expensive part

studs in upside down mode in the middle there is the "real" support - i try to build the roof an this real supports, anyway i need many many many many

I expect something good like your Tatooine MOC! Good luck can't wait to see it I am disappointed with TLG's UCS Hoth Set :hmpf_bad:

Try doing it in LDD first? You can get a parts list doing that so you know exactly how many of the sloped pieces you're going to need.

I like how you are trying to build rigidity into it, nice work.

Are you buying them from Lego Bricks and pieces? They are selling them in white for $0.67 AUD which would be less than $0.50 USD. Yes, it's still expensive but far less than Bricklink prices which are 3x-6x more expensive in quantity!

Whilst its still available?

Lego recently mentioned end of support for it. I think it will still be available, but they will not be uploading new pieces anymore. They are moving on to something else (forgot the name).

Thats a very nice moc - try to do something similar.

I´m still thinking about the scale right now. Try to skip the falcon inside and use 2x x-wing 6212 inside the hangar, so it should be possible for them to fly through the hangar doors :look:

this is getting big.

i´m still waiting for some parts, time for a hoth scene around the battle.

Long time ago in a galaxy far far away one snowtrooper was catched while...

Looks like a good start! Don't be afraid to mix is some over colors for a little more variety like I did on this small Hoth diorama.

this looks very! good, color variety is a good idea as we can expect much dirt around snow scenes as well as some ice. i also thougt about something similar -

i use some used white tiles for this reason but still missing many parts (b - c quality) to start with the baseplates.

good morning,

started with the baseplate of the echo base - unfinished model onto it is a x-wing 6212-1. I plan to put 2 inside. Pillars / Support in place.

In other terms - "huston i have a scale problem". Can´t build the baseplate wider.

What can i do - leave it as it is? downscale the x-wing fighter?

I skip this LDD thing, because i spend so much time in front of computers...

Better build it just in time - even with try and error.

There was not that much progress, when looking at the movie scene the ice-entrance is really long until hangar doors start. I try to capture this moment as good as a can in that scale.

Most dark bluish gray parts will arrive this week. So i could not finish the hangar door but i have a "first idea" of what would it look like, fine tuning will start when i have all parts.

2 evenings later...

Need more slopes but 95% of the height are done, outside nearly finished exept the details. Hangar doors will look like this.

Will use a smaller scale x-wing than 6212 and a small snowspeeder moc.

2vkkms.jpg

the UCS is way too big

The hanger looks fantastic! It is the perfect size for minifigures. Sometime I use skip the LDD part, because it gets very tedious, and is not the easiest to use. Do the doors work? It would be a shame if they didn't. I love the shaping it is beautiful!!! Good luck with the rest of the model, you have made great progress,

Ellis.

Hi ellis,

thank you, the door works - haven´t build the 2nd one right now but the technic part with the gears is done. You can see the ordinary wheel on the left bottom of the 2nd picture.

I have tried this LDD thing but to be honest - i hate it, it´s boring to the bone, and does not fit into my picture of "Lego-building" but

nevertheless everyone who design something with this LDD has my deep respect.

regards mc

Hi Midlife-crisis, this is starting to look really promising, well done!

I particularly like the shaping of the right slopes, although the top section looks a little too irratic/jagged to me. Have you considered creating a more gentle curve for the last few layers rather than a steep 'wall' - most of the larger scale Hoths that I've seen use this approach and it looks great. Lots of interior LEDs would also add to the final effect; apologies if you've already seen it but Brickplumber's version may give you some inspiration (link).

Although I'm really disappointed by 75098 I've almost (and very reluctantly) decided to order it in May; and then I'm going expand it. White parts are very cheap on Bricklink and it shouldn't be that expensive to add some 'bulk' to the main hangar etc....
