Hinckley Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 (2.7) Here is the MOC I built for the Jipay vs Hinckley MOC rumble... Since we were limited to 50 pieces, you've seen most of it if you followed the thread. But I thought I'd post the process as well as the MOC. Jipay and I called corners for the rumble. Mine was Sinner and his was Cuck. They weren't allowed to help us build by suggesting new directions or techniques, but they could criticize and offer feedback. So here are the results: Steampunk Air Skiff version 1.0: Sinner's feedback was that he didn't like the big tank and the wings were confusing. He also said if I really thought about it, I could replace the two dark gray bricks in the back with one brick that would hold the technic axle in place... :-D :-D :-$ Steampunk Air Skiff version 2.0: So I replaced the big tank and added rotors to the side axles instead of what I had been thinking of as rudders...coincidentally, this is what delayed us the longest I had to order brown rotors and unfortunately, the BL store I chose to order from was very slow shipping. I found the piece Sinner was cleverly referring to that held the axle in back at the right height. I liked being able to put another copper dome in and the smaller tank size. Both changes freed up a bunch of pieces so I was able to reconfigure a little, and I had two pieces left over I didn't quite know what to do with... Steampunk Air Skiff version 2.1 through 2.6 And eventually decided on this version... Steampunk Air Skiff version 2.7 I got a lot of great feedback during the voting and I really appreciate it. Feel free to comment if this is your first time seeing it. I plan a version 3 with no piece limit once I wrap my mind around steampunk again. This was my first steampunk creation and I really enjoyed it! *wub* Quote
Starwars4J Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I really *wub* this. That use of the rockraiders rollcage is inspired! It's fantastic, and I can't wait to see the unlimited parts version X-D I kind of wish you kept the big vat though... Quote
Stauder Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Very clever build. Nuff" said. Stauder Quote
Siegfried Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I am still stunned how well good both of the MOCs looked for only 50 pieces. *wub* Phase III should be a stunner! Sinner's feedback was that he didn't like the big tank and the wings were confusing. Hmmm... did I really say that? I could swear that I said "The base plate seems too dominant" which yes, would have forced you to change the boiler, but I don't recall even mentioning the boiler until version two. But I could be wrong. It's not like I keep all my EMails and went back and checked... ;-) EDIT: Who is Cuck? Quote

Siegfried Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Chuck is l2k. He changed his name. Remember? It was a joke. His name is Chuck, not Cuck. Quote
Brickmaster Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I quite like the use of the RockRaiders parts to create a 'revolutionary' style (Whenever they were testing with flying. Heh) I like it, great job. Quote
SirNadroj Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I voted for you, Hinckley! :-$ I really love this, but what really sold it for me was the use of those rock raider 'window' things. Very clever indeed! BTW, nice new tag, Hinckley! :-D Quote

I'm paraphrasing Captain Wanker!! :-D :-D :-D That was the basic story in one way or another. Thank you for reminding me about the baseplate, I certainly did reduce it, huh? Yes, I did. :-$ oops! Sorry Chuck. :-D Quote
Corvus Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 *wub* Lovin' it! The rock raiders cage, all of it! *wub* One gripe, though: The pilot is standing on the edge of the ship. It looks really easy for him to fall off and be decapitated by the rotor... Quote
Asuka Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 A very interesting story of the developing process of your MOC which is really a very elegant work, frugal but still beautiful, not an easy thing to reach, more than of course if you Quote

Thank you for reminding me about the baseplate, I certainly did reduce it, huh? Yes, I did. Yes! I think it still would have won in the first version though as people were voting more on the concept rather than the details. But we'll never know now... One gripe, though: The pilot is standing on the edge of the ship. It looks really easy for him to fall off and be decapitated by the rotor... Steampunk mate. Reality has nothing to do with it. ;-) Quote
Corvus Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Steampunk mate. Reality has nothing to do with it. ;-) So says the anti-gravity man. :-P Quote
Asuka Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 So says the anti-gravity man. :-P Wait.... I always thought that Sinner Quote
ZeekyBoogeyDoog Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Awesome *y* ! I love steampunk creations. I liked the big tank, it made it look more primitive :-) Quote
