March 18, 20168 yr my wife wanted me to order the police accessory set for our son's Easter basket, so I decided I needed to qualify for free shipping and added the Ferris Wheel today. The double points this weekend helps too. We got the Mixer last week and its now my six year old's favorite toy, thinking I'll have to hide the new box from the missus for a while or she'll complain about the spending.

The Mixer and the Ferris wheel will go together perfectly :-). I love these sets. They are colourful and have many nice elements. Enjoy them
March 19, 20168 yr Question for those who have built this one... I just completed bag #1. The whole ramp-raising process is difficult to move, and seems wrong... fidgeting with the pieces broke them all apart. After finishing bag #1, it seems a bit more sturdy, but still seems a bit off. That little yellow level moves the full 90 degrees but feels tight on both ends, like i'm stressing the parts. Is this normal? Thanks! UPDATE - My problem was a temporary one... this set is amazing.. Great review for a great set... it's the first thing that your eyes go to amongst all my other sets. I have it at the top of some stairs and you see it while walking up... very cool! March 19, 20168 yr Thanks for the review, WhiteFang. With the double points promotion, I finally pulled the trigger on this one. Very excited to build it this week.
March 20, 20168 yr Excellent review! I didn't expect to get this set originally. But once I saw it in the store I just had to have it. It's been on display since putting it together last summer and I can't help myself from making it turn each time I walk by it. I agree and understand fans' joy. But how large should a park be to put this huge wheel there? Though those who have LEGO Buckingham Palace or Tower Bridge can change the Wheel into London Eye! What do you think? So basically, you added a $200 set to an order of $15, in order to qualify for free shipping. I think that's a brilliant argument, I must remember that! Remember: All is fair in love and LEGO!
March 20, 20168 yr So basically, you added a $200 set to an order of $15, in order to qualify for free shipping. I think that's a brilliant argument, I must remember that! Remember: All is fair in love and LEGO! That is correct although I also added 3 sets of the fire accessory set which was on sale for $7.49 because we needed some firefighters for the 6 seater 8 wide bucket truck we made a couple of weeks ago, then I called customer service while order status said it was 'in warehouse' (because I'd forgotten to add the PF motor). They said it was too late to add to the order, I didn't want to pay shipping and told them that was the reason I was wanting to add to the order. They said "well since you just spent $250 yesterday, we're more than happy to waive shipping on this order"
May 6, 20177 yr When I got the e-mail announcing the new animal carousel, I finally broke down and bought 10247, as I'm sure it will retire soon. I just need to attach the gondolas to be done building, but I'm really conflicted/unhappy about the set. The plate-built, H-shaped base seems like a compromise. It's sturdy enough. (The completed model is as a whole, but more on that in a second.) It's like they couldn't quite get the build to work on a 48x48 baseplate, and went with plates as a fall back instead of trying to come up with another design that fit. I thought the build was fairly normal through bags 1 and 2, but the build for bags 3 has to be one of, if not the most completely annoying experiences that I've ever had in LEGO. Before the two sides of the wheel are connected, and for several steps before, the partially completed wheel is frustratingly flimsy. There's a tension in the frame that makes me wonder: if there's not an illegal connection in there, then the geometry of the black spoked-plates at the center of the wheel (#4539442) isn't correct. The single-stud connection between it and the spokes kept popping off repeatedly while I worked. When I was done with (sub)step 13 of building the wheel sides, there is a small, but noticeable flexing of the structure from the tension in the frame. This tension makes the whole disc-shape of the frame curve slightly, making them concave towards each other when done. Connecting the two sides together at nine points simultaneously in step 19 is also frustrating, to say the least, with those single-stud connections coming loose repeatedly during the process. Then, in step 20, you are actually required to bend the structure to fit in the remaining twelve 8L axles that complete the connections between the sides. Sure it's a small bend of 'only' 2L, spread over many connected bricks, but I was surprised that it passed LEGO's QA checking process. Once all of the connections between the two sides have been made, and the spokes have been reconnected to the center, the tension in the two sides balance each other, and the complete structure is very stable. I really think that the combination of connections in the wheel results in a constant tension that would normally be considered an illegal connection. The instability in that portion of the build is also a huge detractor for me. As such, I've voted 'below average' for this set. Edited May 6, 20177 yr by rollermonkey added last sentence
June 11, 20177 yr My mom found this set at Bargain Hunt for $99 yesterday. It was brand new but very damaged, and it had all the pieces with it. I built it today and it took a while but I finally got done. Once I finished, the gondolas started hitting the 8x8 net plates at the bottom on one side. I took it apart to try to fix it, and when I put it all back together, the gondolas started hitting the nets on both sides. Anybody have any idea what I've done wrong or have any solutions?

I finished this build yesterday and had a similar experience with the net plates at first. If you have the yellow lever turned so that the plates are angled downwards, the gondolas should swing free.
