Build Day 2 - Days build time 2hrs 25mins / Total build time 6hrs 55 mins

Not as much progress as I'd have liked due mainly to time constraints rather than anything else. In fact, today was thankfully problem/frustration free which is something of a rarity for me.

Im pleased to say that the build is still every bit as enjoyable as the Mini. I think it'll only get more enjoyable as I build in more of the details and details is one thing the set isn't short of. I'll not go into lengthy and boring descriptions of them, it'll be best to see them as the build goes on.

As you know the 5571 Black Cat was on the list of sets I asked for requests to build but it has been removed as late last night I received an offer for it.

I've had to think very long and hard about whether or not to sell it but the money being offered is far more than I paid and is too good to refuse. If the offer wasn't so good I wouldn't even consider selling it but doing so will enable me to buy more sets in the future.

Apologies to those of you who requested the 5571.

For some reason I expected a lot more SNOT in this model. It looks like you're getting used to snapping together regular bricks, these builds seem rather quick.

Like you I was expecting more SNOT building on these sets. There's a few places where it's used on the Mini and so far only a couple on the VW.

As for the speed of the build, I'm just as surprised as you are :classic:

Build Day 4 - Days build time 5hrs 45mins / Total build time 15hrs 50mins

After a few days away in the care of the NHS I'm very pleased to be back home and building.

Today's been a good day with nearly 6 hours of building time so I've managed to get a good bit done with no real problems, just the odd frustration but nothing worth writing about.

As you can see from the photos of the build so far, the interior of this model has some great details. Recline seats, one that turns into a bed, the sink with cupboard underneath and the 'shelves' mounted to the inside of a door. Personally, I think the designer surpassed himself with this one.

Looks good so far Clive  .

Now comes the fun part of the build.

Thank you Edwin. It's really good to be back building. I've just an hour or so going through the instruction book planning tomorrow's building and noticed a few areas where it looks like it could get a bit frustrating or as you put it, fun. :classic:

Good progress, I was wondering where you disappeared. I like the lava lamp and all the other decorations.

I too wondered where I was for a while :classic:

This set has got some nice details the lamp being my least favorite as I keep knocking it off! It's off now until the build's finished.

Build Day 5 - Days build time 6hrs 45mins / Total build time 22 hrs 35mins

Evening All

Progress has been good and, considering how difficult I anticipated some areas would be, surprisingly swift today. It's been one of those days when everything went as planned, well mostly everything. Suffice to say I'll not be applying to be a LEGO curtain fitter any time soon. Boy O boy they were tough to fit. After trying most of the building 'tools' in my ever increasing arsenal it took a cake tester (the long thin wire type used for checking whether cakes are properly cooked) to ease them on, took an hour to do all six.

More of the sets details have become apparent today. Besides the cupboard under the sink, plant, drinking glass, lamp etc., today cubby holes, a poster and t-shirt hanging in the window have appeared. There should have been a mirror above the towel rail but my set, although brand new, had no mirrored sticker. I've contacted LEGO for a replacement. I think it's going to be a job to fit though as the window it's to be stuck on is quite heavily built around.

If the next building day goes as well as today I might, just might get this finished.

This is proving to be almost as interesting as building the set myself. I'm beginning to realise that I don't take anywhere near as much notice of things I'm building as I should.

Thank you. I never thought I'd hear anything I wrote described as interesting. You've made my day :classic:

If the truth be told I'd guess a good many builders are guilty of not taking notice of what they build. I'm lucky, not being able to build quickly gives me time to take in and enjoy the work of the designer.

What you are saying is that we should stop and smell he roses... Errr LEGO. I have to force myself to slow Down and really study the intentions of the designer. When I do I enjoy the build so much more.

In that respect, Clive you are really teaching all of us something valuable. Thanks ever do much.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.

That's the second time today something I've written has received 'praise' . Thank you.

It's been a very strange day! :classic:

Build Day 6 - Days build time 4hrs 30mins / Total build time 25 hrs 45mins

Do to a spell in hospital it's been a few days since I last was able to do any building so it's good to be able to get back too it today.

As you can see from the pictures, the VW Camper's finished and, in my opinion, looks very good indeed. The only small criticism I have is the gap under the wedge piece on the front of the windscreen frame, it's a bit too obvious.

This build, like that of the Mini, has been relatively straightforward with thankfully only a few frustrations along the way but in all,it's been never anything but very enjoyable.

Anyway that's enough from me, here are today's photos.

As I've gotten to the end of the VW build it's time to have a count up of the requests for my next build. Thank you to those of you that submitted a request. If my counting up is correct this is the tally:

42043 3

8880 3

8258 2

42042 1

8109 1

8274 1

As it seems we have a tie I guess it's down to me to choose which of the tied two I'll build next.

I think I'll build the...

I already submitted my vote (8880), but I have enough patience to wait for it if you choose the Arocs :). I have never built 8880 myself, but am really considering getting it. I've read such good things about it.
