Hinckley Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I just want to brag say that twice in the last week I've flagged accounts as spammers before there were any reports. Carry on... Quote
Peppermint_M Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Spam and beer, not a combination beneficial to the Spammer! Looks like they have chosen a new time to attack. I usually find a lot in the early GMT AM... Hmm. Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Why isn't there a report button on the little topic title on a forum page? If the topic title sounds super spammy or very lewd, I don't want to open the topic just so I can report it. I've tried reporting the member themselves, but an error keeps coming up when I try to report. I know adding report buttons to the topic title of every thread in a forum could be visually cluttering; but it would make it easier to report the most viscous spam without having to open the topic. dr_spock Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Some times valid members make titles that could sound like spam but their post is not spam. This is a 18+ site. If you worry about reading possible lewd stuff, just ignore those messages and let someone else report it. There are enough people reporting spam that you don't have expose yourself to such material. It is best to open and read the message to confirm it is really spam. Otherwise, you could be wasting the moderators' time with false accusations. Quote

I think I saw the one you're referring too. Sometimes it's super obvious that it's spam... I reported it and luckily it was gone within a few minutes. Quote
Hinckley Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Pew! Pew! Take that, spam! Another night of assassinating spam. I'm a mercenary. I kill for cash. Peppermint_M Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 A healthy and filling breakfast thanks to a number of reports. Quote
TomKraut Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 I have to say, the mods are doing an exceptional job clearing the spam. I usually browse the forum early in the morning before work and most of the time there are a few spam posts. I just hit report, type in "spam" and a few minutes later they are gone. What I find odd though is that these posts usually have a number of views on them already. The fact that they always disappear shortly after I reported them makes me wonder why apparently no one has reported them before... Quote

EB forum configuration allow for multiple reports of the same post. There is no way for the regular user to know it has been reported. On another site that I frequent, once a post is reported, no other report can be submitted and it is indicated to anyone who tries to submit a report after. It is quite possible you were at the right place and right time when a MOD was available to nuke the spam. Quote

Also, search engines (that are not real people or likely to recognise spam let alone report it) are constantly reading the site Quote
Electricsteam Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Anyone else seeing a few spam bots show up? Quote
Peppermint_M Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Report the posts and staff will zap 'em. Quote

Junior Shark Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 There's some delicious Spam that's being spread through several forums. Don't be the last one to the feast! Quote
Peppermint_M Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Click-Click BOOM Dah SPAM is toast. Quote
KlodsBrik Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Yeah, reported one. Wondering if the user have been hacked since he/she made the account some days ago. Anyhow it might be a new approach towards spreading spamposts throughout the forum, also its the first time i se spam being posted like this in other peoples threads. Ive always only encountered it as new topics. Anyhow, happy viagra meals for all you spam hunters ! Quote

BrickCurve Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 A thought for the prevention of spam, some other forums, like the photography site DP review have a rule that limits new member to only three topics in 15 minutes to for new member reduce spam. Something like that might work quite well here as I am unable to think of a reason for a legitimate new member to create more than 3 posts in their first 15 minutes. Quote
Rick Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 It's a good suggestion although I haven't seen single spam accounts creating a lot of topics or posts. The problem usually is a lot of accounts being registered at certain times. Also, I'm not sure if what you suggest is an option in our board software. An Admin would have to look into it. Quote
GallardoLU Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 wow took those out fast how many were there 30? Quote
