Why isn't there a report button on the little topic title on a forum page? If the topic title sounds super spammy or very lewd, I don't want to open the topic just so I can report it. I've tried reporting the member themselves, but an error keeps coming up when I try to report.

I know adding report buttons to the topic title of every thread in a forum could be visually cluttering; but it would make it easier to report the most viscous spam without having to open the topic.

Some times valid members make titles that could sound like spam but their post is not spam. This is a 18+ site. If you worry about reading possible lewd stuff, just ignore those messages and let someone else report it. There are enough people reporting spam that you don't have expose yourself to such material. It is best to open and read the message to confirm it is really spam. Otherwise, you could be wasting the moderators' time with false accusations.

I think I saw the one you're referring too. Sometimes it's super obvious that it's spam... I reported it and luckily it was gone within a few minutes.

Pew! Pew! Take that, spam! Another night of assassinating spam. I'm a mercenary. I kill for cash.

Don't worry. Someone else will take the bullet.

I have to say, the mods are doing an exceptional job clearing the spam. I usually browse the forum early in the morning before work and most of the time there are a few spam posts. I just hit report, type in "spam" and a few minutes later they are gone.

What I find odd though is that these posts usually have a number of views on them already. The fact that they always disappear shortly after I reported them makes me wonder why apparently no one has reported them before...

There can be multiple reports on the same post. EB forum configuration allow for multiple reports of the same post. There is no way for the regular user to know it has been reported. On another site that I frequent, once a post is reported, no other report can be submitted and it is indicated to anyone who tries to submit a report after.

It is quite possible you were at the right place and right time when a MOD was available to nuke the spam.

Also, search engines (that are not real people or likely to recognise spam let alone report it) are constantly reading the site

Jeeze what is going on. Just mass bot attacks. I'm curious what website would think AFOL would want... oh wait. bots.

Edit. Did a minor amount of digging.... it's a Korean casino site!

Yeah, reported one. Wondering if the user have been hacked since he/she made the account some days ago. Anyhow it might be a new approach towards spreading spamposts throughout the forum, also its the first time i se spam being posted like this in other peoples threads.

Ive always only encountered it as new topics.

Anyhow, happy viagra meals for all you spam hunters !

A thought for the prevention of spam, some other forums, like the photography site DP review have a rule that limits new member to only three topics in 15 minutes to for new member reduce spam. Something like that might work quite well here as I am unable to think of a reason for a legitimate new member to create more than 3 posts in their first 15 minutes.

It's a good suggestion although I haven't seen single spam accounts creating a lot of topics or posts. The problem usually is a lot of accounts being registered at certain times. Also, I'm not sure if what you suggest is an option in our board software. An Admin would have to look into it.
