Quite a few popped up a few minutes ago (all were removed - thanks!). What really surprises me is that they were all in Korean. Any way to filter out a language? This site is English characters only and it might cut down on that type of spam.

what I don't understand and possibly never will is: Do spammers in foreign character languages actually benefit from spamming like this? are members here actually going to these spam sites and generating income one way or another for the spammers?

I mean sure there are some here that read Korean I'd wager, but they are educated people and not likely to go to spam sites. the rest of us should see it as spam simple due to the fact it isn't something we can read and is out of place on a site with English as its primary language medium. and if that is true, what purpose other than sheer annoyance does the spam serve?

I don't think there's more than before. I feel like maybe there was less a year ago, but then again I spend more time on the forums now than a year or two ago . Spam threads come in waves and will happen at all hours of the day, but will be most apparent late night. Mods are quick at deleting spam, but even they need to sleep sometime.

Spammers just need a few people out of possible thousands to click to make the effort to spam worthwhile. Regarding the foreign language, I'm betting spammers make a minuscule amount of money based on quantity of spam they churn out, regardless of whether it's tailored (and readable) for the target.

There are people who do click the links unfortunately. People who are either 'new to the internet' or fairly computer illiterate. Sometimes they genuinely believe what the spammers are saying, other times out of curiosity even if they know it's spam. My mother falls into the latter category and will click on ridiculous things like "Meet your future asian bride dating site" because she thinks it's funny and wants to understand why people will fall for those kinds of things. Things like malware threats just don't compute when I try to explain why not click scammy sounding links. *Sigh*.

I thought I'd bump this thread. Goodness is this latest spammer a pain. They're making multiple accounts and spamming various sub-forums with multiple junk threads, all in a row. I've reported this spam on four separate occasions within the past 48 hours, each one being posted by different accounts! Is there any way of ensuring this individual stops posting on Eurobricks for good?

Joke aside, we do what we can to prevent spammers account and to delete them as soon as we can. Please keep reporting them. In case a single account posts dozens of posts, just report one, it makes our job easier.

Well that was cleaned up fast.

Still I thought that was the least likely forum to ever be hit by spam. With that happening now I expect spam to strike any forum by the end of the week!

The funny thing was all the spam was in Chinese with names of American universities randomly thrown in there... Go figure.

The funny thing is had they posted this photo from Wikipedia and then posted their spam it might have passed as a legitimate Train Tech post!

Maybe they think by posting in sub forums no one will notice as fast. Same spammer made a new account after his Train Tech posts got trashed and started junking up the Historic Themes forum to. Gosh these people are a pain in the butt.
