jedikermit Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Unless something has changed, LEGO has said that they're not producing sets that officially accompany the movie. I hope they stick with the comic book style of Joker, and are simply producing a Joker and a Tumbler set because they're in the movie and popular and will sell, not necessarily...The Dark Knight-branded sets. And Harley's not in the movie, although I wouldn't be surprised to see at least one other besides Scarecrow, Joker, and maybe Two-Face...although that's my own weird theory. Quote
Freddie Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 (edited) Just for clarification: the batcycle is officially known as the Batpod in the Dark Knight. With the set being with the Batcycle and Harley Quinn, it's likely to not be from any of the (live action) movies. I'm a bit bummed about all new summer CITY-sets being coastguard-themed. I was hoping for something maybe a little bit more diverse, even if it in a sense expands the harbour theme. Edited November 17, 2007 by Freddie Quote

Do you have a source? It doesn't make much sense to me to shell out that money for a license and then not take advantage of the movie merchandising. Quote

It doesn't make much sense to me to shell out that money for a license and then not take advantage of the movie merchandising. I remember reading it last summer--searching now all I found was this post on Legions of Gotham, a Batman fansite who said they confirmed it with "Lego Corporate".... http://legionsofgotham.proboards70.com/ind...83380159&page=1 ...there was something about the themes being too dark for what LEGO wanted to do with the Batman license, so they were skewing in a more cartoony direction. It makes sense, since they haven't made sets to go along with "The Batman" cartoon broadcast on Saturday mornings on WB. Releasing LEGO Batman sets in the summer when The Dark Knight is in theatres should be synergy enough to boost sales, I would think, and would probably be better than releasing "The Dark Knight" sets with that effed-up Joker. Athos Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 I want a Lego trenchcoat! *wub* Or a Lego flasher... X-D Steve Quote
Mr Spielbrick Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 (edited) Uhm... I really am that innocent that I actually wanna use the trenchcoat for the Tenth Doctor from Doctor Who. And Gordon himself also kicks uhm... behind. But yeah, more diversity seems to be wanted in multiple lines TLC is producing. City-fans want more than rescuers and Batman-fans want more than just Harley Quinn as a new minifig. Still, I consider myself quite lucky. Harley would be a fantastic addition to the rogue's gallery. And fate has finally revealed why I kept resisting the Batmobile temptation. The Tumbler is coming! Speaking of expectations of cheaper sets for the Penguin and Freeze... I don't suppose you like to buy the magnet sets? That's about as cheap as they get. I guess I wanna kick some TLC a-behind for not delivering a perfectly colored black suited Batman (the gold paint is partly outside the oval) but still. The magnet set line is otherwise working out fine for me. Edited November 17, 2007 by Mr Spielbrick Quote
Batbrick Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 So it wouldn't surprise me if somethings not quite right with that set, also the look of the joker in the new film is very different from the fig we had a few months ago, so perhaps we might see a different faced and hair joker? ________ I am guessing that the Joker will have his othe trademark really dark jacket with broad-brim hat. I hope anyway :'-) Seriously, there is no better Joker than Mark Hamill! *wub* But am I the only one craving the idea of his "ice-cream surprise"? I don't think it sounds very cartoony so much as classic Joker! _________ ...there was something about the themes being too dark for what LEGO wanted to do with the Batman license, so they were skewing in a more cartoony direction. But thats fine with me, open sets I find are more exciting. But please refrain from saying "The Batman" near me, It make vomit, a lot! :-X A far better show is Batman:The Animated Series (see pic above) that is IMO the best interpretation of Batman outside the comics. _________ Speaking of expectations of cheaper sets for the Penguin and Freeze... They are still good though, but I'll just get the sets, they are all so fantastic! *wub* And yes, a blacksuited Batman or Armoured Batsuit Batman would be a great addition! Without a doubt. I'm just bringing up the point that there's actually BEEN a merchandising tie-in opportunity on television for several years now, and LEGO has chosen to go a more classic route. Thankfully. And I'm an enormous BTAS fan. So you don't need to convince me. :) Quote

the enigma that is badger Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 ...I will say that since adding Batgirl and Robin and the Justice League, "The Batman" has become a much more enjoyable show. But I can't forgive them for that awful Joker. Nnnnnngh. I wholeheartedly agree - The Joker of "The Batman" easily ranks with Caeser Romero's version of the character as one of the absolute worst and suffers even more by comparison with the BTAS Mark Hamil-VO interpretation of the Joker which was one of the best. I also recall hearing the TLC was basing their Batman line entire on the comics but can't recall the source. Still, given we've seen "Elseworlds" (ie out of mainstream DC continuity) elements of the Batman character incorporated into the sets (i.e. The Dark Knight Returns-inspired Bat-Tank), there's always a chance TLC could use some very broad concepts from the upcoming film for a set or two. badger Quote

( tight as in cool, not as in too small or ill-fitting) - U_T Quote
jedikermit Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 I like Cesar Romero's Joker too. I just don't like that he wouldn't shave his moustache. The greasepainted moustache! aaaah! X-O Quote

Username_Taken Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 I know what you mean jedikermit, theyre all classics.Although this picture of Frank Gorshin has always creeped me out a bit. Quote
Vader Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Guys the title of this topic is Summer sets, not who plays the best joker. So time to get back on topic. Quote
jedikermit Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Sorry, Vader. I wonder if the sets are arranged from lowest - highest price? If so, then once again the Joker ends up in the most expensive of the "regular" sets (aside from the Batcave and Arkham). I also wonder what kind of vehicle Penguin will end up with in the Robin-Penguin set...we've already seen a minisub, so I'm envisioning some kind of powered umbrella boat. Quote
Username_Taken Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 I posted this earlier in the thread, but idk if anyone saw it. It says that Harley Quinn is driving a "hammer truck" is this a real car? just wondering Quote

It says that Harley Quinn is driving a "hammer truck" is this a real car? just wondering I don't think so. Harley is often shown with an oversized gag hammer like this: My guess is that Harley's driving a truck that either launches a hammer or has some kind of hammer swinging action that can beat on other vehicles. I'm not sure exactly how it would work, but I can see it working for a fun LEGO set. It'd be nice if she had a pair of dingos too...although I don't see that happening. Quote

Wout Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Looking out for the new Star wars and Batman sets. If they put some jedi's in, I hope the faces are not so over the top as Anakins Face. (I think 1999 version Padme doesn't recognize Anakin anymore X-D ) Some City sets sounds promising, but I not expect great sets. Speed Racers? I see if it's something. Quote
