i noticed the following remark on eurobricks.com:

"The last rumours at our board seems to confirm that the Dino line will be available in Europe for real. But in light version : no guns, or at least smaller guns. Thx to our various members for this info."

can anyone confirm these rumors? will the dino line be available in europe in a regular or light version? if so, will they have the same set numbers? and will they appear in normal retail toystores, or only in lego shops? if you know anything about this, please share your information with us, i'm very interested in learning more!

Well nothing is confirmed yet, but it's from a very reliable source, so we can assume they'll be released in Europe without the guns. We don't know anything else about this yet, so keep checking the front page and the forums ;)

What is Dino? Is that the 3rd year of the Adventurers Theme or something else?

pirate of all pirates,

did you just come out of your winter sleep? the community has been making a lot of noise about this theme...

oh no... wait... don't tell me... you were at sea... raiding small settlements... looking for a maiden to abduct... did you find any?... :P

I shall not be as polite as Master Yoda...

Here we go... Another theme with more BBP pieces. I.e. the dinosaurs... Just what most of us didn't want! And to make it worse these dinosaurs don't look anything like LEGO? These must be the biggest and most precise LEGO pieces I've seen outside of Duplo, and they're supposedly part a SYSTEM scale theme?

Why over the past couple of years has LEGO become so obsessed with creating products that look nothing like LEGO? Is this the best they can do to "diversify" their product? In the 2004 financial report they claimed deversifying wasn't working for them - then they go and make this! Numbskulls...

The photos aren't the best, but I'm not going to insult the dedicated soul who took these images for us. Instead I'll send praise for capturing these monostrosities in images. But the problem is I'm not getting a very clear view of these sets which my be contributing to my negative impression of them.

Anyway... The colours... Well they're exotic looking... But I don't think they work well together... Lime green, blay, cream and maroon on the submarine and helicopter? Nah... That just isn't a good colour scheme. LEGO has more colours than it knows what to do with these days and it appears it can't choose colours that "compliment" each other.

The "Typhoon" looks a bit uncoordinated but the photo is too blurred to make much sense of it. The wheeled vehicles look ok. But the "Fire Hammer" looks way out of scale with its mini-figures. It looks more suited to Jackstone figures.

But to summarise, this is yet another theme I won't be adding to my collection and unlikely any of its pieces either. Once again LEGO demonstrates that its still taking a few back despite the couple of steps forward its taken recently.

mister_phes,

I really agree with you, however:

1) Those huge Dinos are not BPPs, they are just too big ;) (might need another acronym: BUA - Big Useless Animal :-D )

2) Given TLC's financial situation and the Kids liking of Dinos, why not after all??? If it pushes TLC, could this really hurt us??? (maybe considering BPPs...)

Those Dinos... Appart from this theme how many other themes could they be integrated into? They barely look like LEGO and almost look out of place with the actual LEGO next to them.

I wouldn't have said Dinosaurs are the most popular theme amongst kiddies these days. Not like they were back in the mid 90's because of Jurassic Park. I haven't conducted any solid research on this matter but I've got enough children in the immediate family to make an observation.

Like I keep saying Pirates are in... And I'm not saying that because I'm blinded by my obsession... Check out my MatchBox gets in on the Pirate act thread. Its just another example of how Pirates are inflitrating toys. Even Match Box cars!

mister_phes,

I still think that this Dino theme is attractive to kids, bad dinos, need alpha team to kick their ugly coloured face ;)

I really don't like this line (and that's an understatment).

Maybe TLC should take some Playmobil ideas (maybe like they did for the Vikings), they really do have nice sets. Actually I hope TLC would do a lot of similar sets.

BTW, yes I read your thread: I should definitly change your title to "self promoting threads" :-D :-D :P

We'll find out in about a year just how attractive this theme is in the 2005 Financial report...

Yes PlayMobil has bounced back in a big way and it would be great if LEGO took some notice of what they're doing. PlayMobil reminds me of LEGO minus the construction element.

I thought rather than going off topic it would be better to provide links to other threads, that way the current thread doesn't end up in a discussion about something else. Besides, nobody had to responded to that thread so I figured it needed some promoting.

I know, however I felt the need to explain as it may inspire others to do the same. That way you moderators won't have to moan every 5 minutes because people are going off topic.

And what if the Dinos do have a negative effect on LEGO's financial situation? Dino is latin for terrible afterall, so its certainly living up to its name. Maybe they'll finally get it through their dense craniums that LEGO sets and posable figures don't go well together...

They're trying to market to us violent Americans! My greatest fear is that they're going to get a huge market of small children and it'll actually succeed.

And as for the mod part, if we got upset every time someone went off topic, we'd be very unhappy people. Only that Hitch thread got closed for being off-topic recently.

That Hitch thread was to be an example of what would happen to other threads if they too went far off topic. But more likely it was one moderator in a bad mood letting everyone else suffer.

As for the Dinos... How is the theme suppose to get a huge market for small children? If you look on the boxes you'll see a rather large 9+ plastered on them. They can't be intended for little kids, especially if they're as violent as you're making them out to be.

I personally do not like this theme, but I thought, maybe some BZP members would like it, because it is targeted closer to the BIONICLE age group then most other themes. I was surprised that most actually hated the theme, except for some who really liked Alpha Team. I think it is nice that most KFoLs and AFoLs can agree that this is a bad theme, but who is left to buy the sets?

Posted

i agree with Bloody Jay. we have discussed all this before by the way... this theme will be a hit... it's attractive to little children and it has a HUGE playability factor to it. these sets are big, no small pieces what so ever,... it has everything to become a major hit for young children

in fact, European children would love it too. i guess the reason why they're not releasing this in europe has probably more to do with the parents than with the children;

If its for little children why is there 9+ on the boxes? Children over 9 aren't exactly little. Rephrased, it may be popular with children over 9, but I've decided to go against popular opinion and say it won't.

Did you ever see a PG-13 movie before you were 13? Parents are way less strict about LEGO age recommendations than movie ratings, so I'd expect that the majority of the children purchasing these ARE under 9.
