Governor Mister Phes Posted April 27, 2005 Governor Posted April 27, 2005 No, I've never seen a PG 13 rated movie in my life. The PG 13 rating doesn't exist where I live. But the point is, if these sets are going to be more popular amongst smaller children then why is LEGO marketing them 9+ ??? Quote
Darth_Ewok Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 They're trying to market to us violent Americans! lol, i'm not THAT violent. :-D This is pathetic! horrible color schemes, molded dinosaurs, and ugly vehicles! and its supposed to be in a city, but where are the buildings?????????? all these sets will do is promote violence, and waste alot of money! but the large machine gun the guy is manning looks pretty cool ;) P.S. the tank looks sort of like the scorpion from halo Quote
The Middleman Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 No, I've never seen a PG 13 rated movie in my life. The PG 13 rating doesn't exist where I live. But the point is, if these sets are going to be more popular amongst smaller children then why is LEGO marketing them 9+ ??? Because they have to. Choking on small parts, guns, swords... they can't be sued with an age suggestion. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 28, 2005 Governor Posted April 28, 2005 Are you saying this is a conspiracy? Make sets that are intended for small children but put an age suggestion on the boxes because LEGO knows that they're not suitable for the children they're intended for? Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 I think the theme will be successful to the less that 12 age group (they love dinos, monsters, and anything that goes bump in the day). The guns they can do without. It's not the guns that sell these sets, it's the dinos and vehicles. I'm sounding like a parent here, but we're making our children violent with all the shooter video games, big guns, and war - thus creating perfect soldiers... I just hate to see Lego jump on the band wagon. Quote
The Middleman Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 I personally think they're marketing the wrong things to the wrong audience. They should be marketing the dinosaurs to the younger children, yes - but the guns should be made for the older audience. For example, giving the police officers pistols, making a SWAT team set, an army theme, or giving the Star Wars line realistic guns rather than megaphones. It would sell better from all perspectives - parents will be more likely to buy Dino sets without guns, and AFOLs/TFOLs will be more likely to buy other lines with guns, but not the Dino line, due to its juniorization. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 29, 2005 Governor Posted April 29, 2005 Baring in mind these comments at the beginning of this thread "The last rumours at our board seems to confirm that the Dino line will be available in Europe for real. But in light version : no guns, or at least smaller guns. Thx to our various members for this info." Why couldn't the dinosaurs themselves be made up from LEGO pieces like the Make and Create set? To me that would seem like they're better targetting the age suggestion on the box. Quote
Chuck Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 I think that the vikings were meant for england becauase they have more of a history, and dino to americans due to their...fascination with that sort of stuff Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 29, 2005 Governor Posted April 29, 2005 However, if they proved popular could they branch out into other regions of the world? Quote
Mr. Lego-builder Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 However, if they proved popular could they branch out into other regions of the world? i absolutely agree with you, mister_phes. Afterall, LEGO originated in Denmark and is now available to all parts of the world...and not mentioning being 6th place as America's most known brand names... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 30, 2005 Governor Posted April 30, 2005 However, Dino is a theme I'd rather no see popular. In fact I'd rather it was cancelled. Quote
Sarg_Kulo Posted April 30, 2005 Posted April 30, 2005 However, Dino is a theme I'd rather no see popular. In fact I'd rather it was cancelled. And was replaced with Halo. That would own Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 30, 2005 Governor Posted April 30, 2005 Would a LEGO theme based on a computer game work? I haven't played Halo but I have my doubts it would appeal to enough people. Quote
Chuck Posted April 30, 2005 Posted April 30, 2005 I cant believe this. TLC gives starwars sets megaphones with orange/blue dots on them for guns, yet the dino sets get huge, big-a** guns... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted April 30, 2005 Governor Posted April 30, 2005 The 4+ Pirate Theme even had muskets. Quote
Sarg_Kulo Posted April 30, 2005 Posted April 30, 2005 Would a LEGO theme based on a computer game work? I haven't played Halo but I have my doubts it would appeal to enough people. I'm hesitant to answer this because it is leading down the offtopic road. Yeah the dino>star wars gun thing does suck Quote
The Middleman Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 I doubt many Halo fans would buy the LEGO sets, and I doubt many LEGO fans play Halo. Besides, it's just a fad. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 1, 2005 Governor Posted May 1, 2005 I thought Dinosaurs were just a fad too. They're certainly nowhere near as popular now as they were circa 1993. Quote
Sarg_Kulo Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 I'd by loads of Halo. I bet saber scorpian would by loads of Halo just to name one but I can think of several otehr from FBTB. I'll start a seperate poll so this doesn't go off topic, please discuss it there Quote
The Middleman Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 I thought Dinosaurs were just a fad too. They're certainly nowhere near as popular now as they were circa 1993. I meant Halo. Ironically, dinosaurs will never die out. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted July 13, 2005 Governor Posted July 13, 2005 Dinosaurs died out 65 million years ago... Or 64.6 million if you want to be pedantic about it. Quote
Hobbes Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Just found this brickshelf gallery with "real" pics from the new Dino sets. Too bad he doesn't have the helicopter. The Hummer/Hammer is huge compared to the minifigs, though... Quote
Mr. Lego-builder Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 It is huge! I might change my mind and not get any of them, even if they do go on sale (although the parts are nice)... BTW: I already posted this same link in the "Dino Sets--Not that good" thread. See the last page. ;) Quote
Hobbes Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 BTW: I already posted this same link in the "Dino Sets--Not that good" thread. See the last page. ;) Argh... I knew the thread was named differently :$ Thought somebody renamed it... shame on me... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted July 15, 2005 Governor Posted July 15, 2005 Hahahaahahahahaaaa! I posted in an older Dino thread and obviously bumping it to the top. I suspected some might not check the actual forum to see if there was more than one. Quote
