Zarkan Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 (edited) I know there's a lot of anti Disney thinking going around this board, while I personally like them and dislike Dreamworks. As for Shrek, seriously, I though the first movie was okay, but I didn't even bother with the second, and the third was too much. Now I look on good old Wikipedia, and low and behold, Dreamworks is making a Shrek 4, or SHREK GOES 4TH, as they call it. Look, there's more: a Shrek 5 for 2013! And this Christmas you can witness Shrek the Holdays, a 30 minute special just for TV! And now the clincher: Puss in Boots, a spin-off about the fighting cat that links 4th and 5th together in one epic franchise! :-X Okay, this is from wikipedia, so it might not be true, BUT if it is, I really don't have respect for Dreamworks anymore. Can't they make something besides some lame ogre related movie based on their biggest hit? I mean, they even made a Shrek 3-D back a while ago! Will this ever end? :-| Just my thoughts.... ;-) Edited November 19, 2007 by Grevious Quote
ExoBuilder Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 I agree they are taking it way too far with the whole Shrek thing. Quote
Siegfried Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I agree. I thought Shrek 1 was OK, Shrek 2 was great, but IMHO Shrek 3 was garbage that made zero sense. (Where were all the knights that made Shreks entry into the castle in the second so hard when Prince Charming invaded, and why was the Dragon so easily beaten? :-| ) But I am more tired of the attitude of Dreamworks that movie references are a great basis for 90% of their plot and humor. I find it tiresome and not funny in the slightest. Quote
conductorjoe Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I was tired of Shrek before I watched the first 5 minutes of the first movie X-D Quote
Corvus Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Two more movies, you say? :-X I don't want to beleive it... It's wikipedia, so my wish might come true. X-D Dreamworks is taking Shrek WAY to far, IMO. I haven't seen any of them for a while, but I think that the third one, with some fixing, was better than the second. Quote
jifel Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 wierd.like people change themselves alot because a loser highscooler says so. hook will grow dafodils when foina proposes to charming. jifel Quote

MicVash Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Oh no, now they're gonna make Shrek LEGO! TLC and Dreamworks are discussing a partnership of some sort! Heaven forbid! ;-) JUST KIDDING! ;-) That would be such a disgrace though. :-D Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Hey, it would probably be Shrek Duplo!! Shrek is okay, I think. You guys are just bullying us Dreamworks fans. :-P Quote
Johnny 5 Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Yes there will be at least two more movies Shrek 4 and Puss in Boots Main characters have already signed on for both about 6 months ago. Thats when I first heard about them. This is from Yahoo movies so a little bit reputable than wikipedia. Quote
Wout Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I like the book and the first movie, the second was o.k. Not seen the 3rd one but It is not good enough to make as much films as James Bond. Quote
jedikermit Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 But I am more tired of the attitude of Dreamworks that movie references are a great basis for 90% of their plot and humor. I find it tiresome and not funny in the slightest. That's my biggest problem with them. They're derivative and just...unfunny. I have the same problem with "Family Guy," where it's all parody--all ripped off of funnier, better programs. I prefer something original than just the same recycled cheap jokes over and over again. I haven't seen anything since the first Shrek, but I certainly won't be subjecting my own kids to them. Nnnnngh. Quote
Vader Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 As most have pointed out shrek 3 was a complete waste of time, but as long as they bring in the cash the studios will continue to turn them out >:-( Quote
Batbrick Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 As most have pointed out shrek 3 was a complete waste of time, but as long as they bring in the cash the studios will continue to turn them out >:-( ________ Sadly true that is :'-( ...... I dislike Shrek immensely because Dreamworks think he has a right to be in every part of our live through advertising >:-( I am getting sick of seeing Shrek plush toys, yogurts and such! The third movie in particular was bad :-X I have a large problem with dreamworks in general actually. Problem one: Sequels galore! Shrek 2, Shrek 3, Shrek 4, Shrek 5, puss in Boots, Madagascar 2, Madagascar 3 and the proposed Shark Tale 2 and Over the Hedge 2 :-X Problem two: Humour I hate references as the basis of comedies! HATE! >:-( Grow some wit will you dreamworks! Problem three: Quality Who cares about quality when we can have quantity by churning out crap after crap! Problem four: Marketing Still looking for an ogre free zone! |-/ Overall I think that the marketing team of Dreamworks are a bunch of mindless jerks who'll be the first against the wall when the revolution comes! (who can guess this reference?) Pixar on the other hand *wub* .................. Rant Over. Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
zouave Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Shreck 1 was pretty good. But by 2 , dreamworks had lost focus. I'm sure the other movies will rake in the dough so we may be stuck with shreck. Quote
Mofo Jones Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I haven't seen Shrek 3, but I heard it was a huge letdown. The best part about Madagascar was the penguins, just like the scrat sections are the best part of the Ice Age series. Supporting characters, FTW! X-D Quote
Vader Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 The best part about Madagascar was the penguins, just like the scrat sections are the best part of the Ice Age series. Supporting characters, FTW! X-D Yeah i would have to agree with you on both those points, what i really hated about Madagascar was the voice acting. I felt it was such a let down and just didn't fit the characters at all, David Schwimmer has a voice that should never be heard. :-X Quote
xwingyoda Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Actually here is a voice here saying "bring them ON" X-D I am such a fan of the 2 first movies that can be viewed and reviewed and you still discover spoofs and nifty details :-P The 3rd was really like the Indestructables (or whatever crap from Pixar) in the way that it was minimum service with a bad script and poor writing :-X Still some enjoyable ideas and moments ! I love when Donkey and Puss exchange body :-P and some other great moments but overall its clearly under par !! I like the characters so I am happy if they continue the Shreck adventure but they need to work harder on that 4th one :-P And NO I do't want TLC to buy the Shreck licence X-D *yoda* Quote
Vader Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 So it seems shrek does have a fan on these boards, i might of known it would be you!!! X-D I for one want the days back when Pixar gave us new fresh concepts, remeber how it felt to see there first few films? I do and i wish we could have that again. Quote
jedikermit Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 The only Pixar movie I haven't liked was "Cars." It was too long, too rednecky. I thought Ratatouille was an amazing movie, even though it was completely different from what Pixar has done before. It was a very intimate movie. I loved it. I think this WALL*E movie coming next summer has potential, even if the main character looks too much like the robot from "Short Circuit" back in the '80s. All in all, Pixar has been the most reliable studio for quality entertainment for my money. Dreamworks has been raking in the money, but I don't like their movies. Which reminds me--has anyone seen "The Bee Movie" yet? We're trying to decide if we're going to take our boys to it. Quote
Vader Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Ratatouille was a superb film, made even more enjoyable because i was in paris when i saw it. I liked Cars though, far better than i expected. Quote
casewindu Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Ratatouille was a superb film, made even more enjoyable because i was in paris when i saw it. I liked Cars though, far better than i expected. Yes I agree unlike alot of people I felt that cars was really good fun! I liked the way it was a simple film with no massive story line and really laid back. It also made my visit to route 66 this summer all the more enjoyable! As for shrek I thought the first and second were quite funny and clever but the thrid was awful. After seeing them so many times I lost interest and dont think I will be buying the third when it appears in the shops. The pixar movie that I hated was finding nemo! But everyone is entitled to an opinion and nobody should knock it! ;-) Quote
Batbrick Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Yeah, I always see Pixar films in cinemas, I can't wait for Wall-E, it looks like a very original and interesting concept. I liked Cars, but it was under par with the rest of Pixar's films, but what do people see wrong with The Incredibles? That was a great homage of superheroes with an excellent plot and excellent villain! :'-) But yeah, if anyone wants to see that quality out of dreamworks, then you better start wanting more shrek right away :-X Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
