Certainly. Reasons to get this set: A cheaper source for a Penguin, a cheaper source for a Robin, a new vehicle for Robin, a cheesy-but-cool submarine for Penguin, a number of brick-built Penguin which are really cute and the novelty value of a Batman set without a Batman.

Thanks bud! :'-)

Plus I REALLY like that Robin Sub.

As for a Gordon fig, we want a modern comics Gordon, like so:

This is especially important (to me) as the other figs are of modern versions of the characters- Tim Drake Robin and Nightwing for example.

I definitely agree. Trenchcoat is a must, and that picture you posted is a brilliant example. Though I would like him a bit less, er, frail.

Hm... thinking about his hair... Do we want him with a hat or with hair? Cause LEGO never did white hair, did they? For everything there is a first time, though. Here's hopin'! :'-)

I would love white hair, I can't imagine why it hasn't been made. Still, I'll be happy with that or a hat, both give the same character to Gordon.

Um... both? No, we've not had white hair before (with the exception of the beard), and frankly any would be welcome. But now that we've got a fedora from Indy, TLC could give us a lighter-coloured one to match a trenchcoat for our hero-cop.

I'm also hoping that Fedora goes to good use on Joker in the Tumbler set, these are still preliminary after all, remember how much Riddler's hideout changed?

Next up we just need a bowler and broadbrim *wub*

Sorry to say this, but these look pathetic. The only good one is the Robin one. Oh well, I'm, sure I'll change my mind when better veiws come. :-)

(Cries in pain!) NOO!

Still, I find it interesting that you think the only good set is the Robin one, seeing as most consider it the weakest set.

:'-( Batbrick and I just let out cries of pain on reading this.

Yes we did. I guess all we can do is buy these sets (and the game ;-) ) like the fanatic Batfans we are, maybe even a multiple of the Batbuggy for me, and help make sure there is a wave 4 for Gordon and all the rest. But for now, we have Harley, one of my favourites, plus a heap of new vehicles we've been wanting (Better Robin vehicle, Tumbler, Batpod) so I still can't wait to get them all.

Batbrick Away! >:-)

Posted (edited)
The movie doesn't contain Harley Quinn, so it wouldn't be based off it.

I can dream can't I? :-D

You mean in dark grey? A grey suit is already released, a dark grey suit on the other hand *wub*

Yes, I mean dark grey, I liked the black suit but I would have preferred it to be more blacker without yellow coloring. I hope its a Batman Begins based suit 8-

I've noticed several interesting things about those images, gentlemen....

(Oh. it may only be my imagination....)

Bat-Buggy

1) It seems that Mr. Freeze has a crystal ord detail behind his back with a blue crystal, the same he's holding in his hand.... :-)

2) Is it me, or Batman has quite a different mask on the bottom right picture? (His "ears" first of all?) |-/

Robin's jet

1) Indeed it seems, that I have quite a different face here.... Hope it's not some really "monster-like" as shown in some comics.... :-X

2) Whats with the upper penguins (with aquanaut's gun) wing? Is it a triangular detail?

3) The rocket on the back seems to be the gray and black variant of the one on the front.... |-/

Harley's Truck

1) Isn't there a red lidhtning (castle one) detail just over her own hammer? )

What do you think? ) :-)

Though I would like him a bit less, er, frail.

Yes, he does look a bit frail. Well, it was the first pic I found and it just so happened (yeah, right) to be by Tim Sale, possibly my favourite comic artist.

Still, I'll be happy with that or a hat, both give the same character to Gordon.

No, sorry, I still want both. ;-)

But for now, we have Harley, one of my favourites, plus a heap of new vehicles we've been wanting (Better Robin vehicle, Tumbler, Batpod) so I still can't wait to get them all.

She's one of my favourites as well, but probably for *ahem* a different reason. As for new vehicles, well, they're always welcome. Ane this year's are all quite different- a Batcycle that's not like Nightwing's bike (I may not be that sure about it, but it's original), a unique-looking sub for Robin, a Tumbler, and a little (cute) buggy, that surely gets a plus for sheer un-Batman-ness.

I liked the black suit, it was based off Batman 89. But I, like you, would love an all black one, but more than that I want dark grey.

Frankly, any new Batsuit would be nice, but a dark grey one would be nice, as would a black one. We already have a pretty good idea what a dark grey one would look like though, as it's in the Batwing instructions, as Batbrick pointed out earlier.

Excellent spotting, it does use that piece, I like that. I'm also interested in seeing what sits behind Mr. Freeze, something very "cool" hopefully! (oh dear, Brainbox's puns are getting to me!)

Two in one day. I must be contagious.

1. I think you're right. Notice also that Freeze has a different backpack and gun in the actual boxart. The picture in the bottom-left still shows the old one though.

2. It does look a bit different, you're right. I doubt they'd change the design though, so it's probably just the angle of the photo or something. It's interesting that the box shows a black batsuit and the insert box(es) show a dark grey batsuit.

1. It may well be. But then, it could just be something to do with the big 'Preliminary' stamp.

2. I think it's built just the same as the penguins from the Batcave (not my pic, btw):

p9220001.jpg

3. I don't really know what you mean. The missile at the back is one of the rubber shooters, the missile at the front looks like a flick-missile.

Harley's Truck

1) Isn't there a red lidhtning (castle one) detail just over her own hammer? )

1. There's something there, some sort of flame, I'm just not sure what. If it is a castle lightning in red, then that's pretty cool (or should it be... smoking hot ;-) ).

Yay, so i'm not crazy!!! He does have a different face, or atleast he seems to have a different one!!!*y*

Watch this, if you know who Creeper is, you'll get a laugh out of this, Batman gets beat at the end :-D !:

He did Hush am I right?

No, sorry, I still want both. ;-)

Of course you do, but you know what will happen don't you? We'll only get one. Still, both would be good....

She's one of my favourites as well, but probably for *ahem* a different reason.

Yeah, you can be pretty creepy sometimes X-D

I hope that the angle of the Batcycle on the box pic is what makes it look odd. I hope it turns out like that Agents motorcycle, but in Batpod form. I can't wait to get Robin's sub either. And of course that Buggy that for all its sheer un-Batman-ness as you say, will be parked in my Batcave.

Frankly, any new Batsuit would be nice, but a dark grey one would be nice, as would a black one. We already have a pretty good idea what a dark grey one would look like though, as it's in the Batwing instructions, as Batbrick pointed out earlier.

Funny how you mention me as a third person despite the fact you were replying to my comments *wacko*

Atleast we've got plenty of suits to get anyway, leaving space for future waves. I think I'll prefer a black one for now, not because I'll like it more, but because it will tie into the movie better, we might not get another one if not this year. I do love that pic in the instructions too.

Two in one day. I must be contagious.

You'd better hope not.

1. I think you're right. Notice also that Freeze has a different backpack and gun in the actual boxart. The picture in the bottom-left still shows the old one though.

This may be bad news for me then. If the fig boxart is wrong then there might be no dark grey suit. Still, it also gives me hope that the final figs change and give them extras.

2. It does look a bit different, you're right. I doubt they'd change the design though, so it's probably just the angle of the photo or something. It's interesting that the box shows a black batsuit and the insert box(es) show a dark grey batsuit.

I though that for a time as well. I too doubt they would change it though, unless they really wanted to make a cowl like in TDK. I think the final new suit will be a BB/TDK one.

1. It may well be. But then, it could just be something to do with the big 'Preliminary' stamp.

I'm hoping atleast something in the figs is different, but as you say, it may well just be the stamp :-(

1. There's something there, some sort of flame, I'm just not sure what. If it is a castle lightning in red, then that's pretty cool (or should it be... smoking hot ;-) ).

I think its part of the car, it has an identical black piece next to it.

He did Hush am I right?

No, Hush was Jim Lee. But the writer on Hush was Jeph Loeb, who worked with Sale on Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Catwoman: When In Rome and Superman: For All Seasons for DC, and Spider-Man: Blue, Hulk: Grey and Daredevil: Yellow for Marvel. He also provided the paitings for Isaac Mendez (Santiago Cabrera) on Heroes. Interestingly, he's colourblnd.

Yeah, you can be pretty creepy sometimes X-D

Um... moving on.

I hope that the angle of the Batcycle on the box pic is what makes it look odd. I hope it turns out like that Agents motorcycle, but in Batpod form. I can't wait to get Robin's sub either.

Thing is, I'm just not sure. Whereas the Agents bike is 'flat' this just looks more like an upside-down 'V' which is a pity. An Agents-style Batcycle would be pretty cool.

Funny how you mention me as a third person despite the fact you were replying to my comments *wacko*

That's a very interesting point, and not one I can explain. :-D

The one with the guy with the giant hammer is cool too! I like that one now. :-)

But the Joker one... that vehicle looks bony and pathetic, and the fact that Joker is selling icecream doesn't help it...

The Mr. Freeze one looks okay... the vehicles are a little small though...

My comments now:

Batman's Buggy: The Escape of Mr. Freeze

Lol, mario cart! Nice for parts though, and nice helmet... But not really a nessesary set IMO.

Robin's Scuba Jet: Attack of The Penguin

Not bad, but still ot nessasary, as I already have things like that from my Batcave. Red flick fire missle though. Penquins? *wub*

Thanks for that, I don't know much about the artists, but I do of course know Jeph Loeb, fantastic writer, I can't wait to get The Long Halloween. However Jim Lee does ring a bell, I'll have to follow up on that. Tim Sale on them ones then, that must be the connection, I honestly haven't read anything Batman in a while, I'll have to catch up a bit, but I remember not thinking much of "When in Rome" though, even the twist. Anyway, thanks for that info, I'm embarrassing myself lately, I must be tired.

Thing is, I'm just not sure. Whereas the Agents bike is 'flat' this just looks more like an upside-down 'V' which is a pity. An Agents-style Batcycle would be pretty cool.

Hmmm, you make a good point, but then again I plan on that agents set, so a quick analysis of the construction and a better Batpod is mine! Plus it also means I get to post it in a Bat Mocs'N'Mods treat.

That's a very interesting point, and not one I can explain. :-D

Well atleast it was funny, cheered me up a bit :-)

I like it. X-O

Oh thats fine, I was just curious.

The one with the guy with the giant hammer is cool too! I like that one now. :-)

We are turning him Brainbox, slowly but surely....

But the Joker one... that vehicle looks bony and pathetic, and the fact that Joker is selling icecream doesn't help it...

Really? Most people have complained that its chunky, not bony. And I don't think Joker is selling ice cream so much as:

a) Driving a stolen van

b) selling Joker toxin Ice cream (it kills ;-) )

c) something else wacky but deadly

My comments now:

I was thinking a bit of Mario cart actually, I might make a humorous vig of it. I agree though, some great parts in that set, like those wheels I don't have or anything on Mr.Freeze.

*wub* *wub*Harley fig? Hammer? Sweet batcycle? A TRUE MUST HAVE!!!

Now you're talking!

The Tumbler: Joker's Ice Cream Surprise

It's alright, but I think that I will just buy the ice-cream truck seperatly off Bricklink or EBay.

Thats funny, I could easily make that truck out of existing parts, with a few different colours of course. The Tumbler on the other hand, a few mods and *wub* !

Overall: I think Harley is the best, maybe because the truck looks like the Dino Attack hummer. *wub*

You're right, it is a bit like that, not that this is a bad thing, that hummer was great. Oversized of course, but here it suits, the driver being the Joker's henchwench.

Not necessary, true, but pretty cute.

Sale also did art for Superman Confidential: Kryptonite with writing duties by Darwyn Cooke, I forgot about that one.

Not necessary, true, but pretty cute.

Plus its useful. I want doubles of all my characters because I'm paranoid about damaging one. Mr.Freeze himself has brilliant components for Mocing, and the set itself comes with great pieces and looks to be cheap.

Sale also did art for Superman Confidential: Kryptonite with writing duties by Darwyn Cooke, I forgot about that one.

Thanks for that, I should really read more Superman, but given I have a habit of buying more than just read-and-return, I'll have to wait until I start making better money :-$

Heh, not if I get there first...

Damn, you probably will too, Tas always gets sets last. Not to mention I'm always behind on sets, due to aforementioned low budget.

We'll take him together, in a pincer movement. I'll go in from the left, you go in from the right. Batbrick, you swoop down from above. ;-)

I'm on it, lets get this madman back to Arkham where he belongs. After a delightful Batfan bashing of course X-D

No, I agree. She should be menacing, yes, but with a hint of cutesy innocence.

I like the way you worded that. I still hope that she, as you say, is menacing, but she needs to still look not-evilly-happy enough to be able to be less menacing than the Joker and useful for "Puddin!" vignettes.

I might do a Mad Love scene actually.

Its funny going back throughthis topic and seeing the names Batbrick, Brainbox, Batbrick, Brainbox over and over again :-D

We have a great thing here in the UK, Collector's Editions. Panini UK prints Marvel, and Titan Magazines prints DC. I collect Fantastic Four Adventures, Batman Legends, Superman Legends, Justice League Legends and DCU Presents... (Batman/Superman). Each one's out once every four weeks, and it just so happens that I get at least one every week.

I myself prefer Hardcovers, mainly because they look better on a shelf X-D . Of course they are more expensive, and Tas isn't the best place to get comic subscripstions...

Oh yeah, hardcovers are infinitely better than TPBs. They look better, they keep better and they tend to stay open if you let go, which mkes them better for reference. However, TPBs are cheaper and seemingly more easily available, so HCs tend to only get bought if it's something 'special', for example Infinite Crisis.

Pretty poor really, but atleast it gives us more time to save up right?

Ah touche.

Heh, funnily enough the word "Off topic" comes to me. I swear we only mention the sets once in a post so heres mine:

X-D

It's interesting how the sets manage to capture the campy 60s TV series and the darker nature of the modern comics at the same time. I mean, how many times has Penguin used a penguin-styled sub lately? Exactly.

The Tumbler's windows are certainly a nice touch, seeing as how so many MOCs do have to miss them as you say.

There, that's two. That should tide me over for the next post in case I miss it. :-D

Yeah, unfortunately for me the best availability here is Hardcover and not much else. A subscription would be great, but then all those graphic novels are so tempting.... *wub*

Plus I have a lot of catching up to do, I honestly don't own that much, I read a lot, but its only recently I've realised the insatiable need to add those to my shelf :-D But like you, HC will be for special stories, mine going for The Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Year One, Killing Joke (though I may just get it as part of the "Greatest Joker stories ever told" collection) and possibly Morrison's ( ;-) ) Arkham Asylum. Actually, looking back, thats quite a bit.

Thats what I love about the sets, they really are a great combination of all the Batman mythos. We've got the modern, brooding Batman, the campy 60's element, heck, theres even a streak of the ridiculous 50's days. Which is brilliant really, the villains in these sets are just as deadly as they are now, but we still get a lighter touch which kids will love, and personally, so do I.

Another point of interest is just how good the research on these mythos has been done. Joker has his laughing gas bombs, Scarecrow has his fear bombs. Bane surprisingly has his Venom steroids system. The Batcave has a little throwaway to the fans with the baby T-rex, obviously the miniaturised robot T-rex. Heck, they even knew that Joker's identity is a mystery and included Two-Face's real name on the Batcomputer.

Theres my two points now, a little insurance for next post as well.

Batbrick Away! >:-)

I don't own that many either, but I'm starting to get more. It's only recently I've started actually buying TPBs/HCs I want rather than just borrowing them from the library and reading them. I have more that it looks like thanks to the CEs, but still... I want more.

Which is brilliant really, the villains in these sets are just as deadly as they are now, but we still get a lighter touch which kids will love, and personally, so do I.

It's more of that trademark TLC humour that comes through every now and again. Heck, if TLC gave us one, I'd even accept a Bat-Mite. Just for the sheer fun of it.

Hmm, what about Ace the Bat-Hound... :-D

Another point of interest is just how good the research on these mythos has been done.

Well, exactly. I mean, SW was pretty well-researched, IMO, but the level here is amazing, especially given all the different versions of characters, origins and timelines, and then theres the Crises and all the retcons (like Zero Hour).

They're really appealing to the geeks on this one. X-D
