Exetrius Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I do agree with the "no powers" thing, although there's a very real possibility that none of the ninja have powers in this new film and just use elemental weapons. I'd be completely in for that! In the show, they are actually far too overpowered (if handled correctly, that is) with all those abilities. But if the abilities are in the weapons, then it depends on the skills of the wielder. Also, let's face it: real ninja have weapons, work from the shadows and are super stealthy, very much unlike how it is in the show atm. I'd be pleased to see these traditional elements back in the movie. Quote

I'd be pleased to see these traditional elements back in the movie. Well, if this movie is a parody like the other two movies, than it's safe to assume that this movie is a parody of a ninja/action movie. We could see more classic elements like stealth and weapons. There's also the possibility that they want to leave later plot developments from the show for future movies. Even if the movies don't strictly follow the show's continuity or even take great liberties with it, it's possible that significant revelations about the main characters (like Nya being a water ninja or Zane being a Nindroid) could still be saved for potential sequels. Superhero movies do that kind of thing all the time, introducing characters in the heroes' "origin stories" who have more significant hero, villain, or sidekick roles in the comics, in case they want to use those characters more prominently in later installments. But after the first movie, it's likely that people will go and see the TV show. And then they'll know that Nya's a samurai, or that Zane is a cyborg. Comics have been running for decades, so it's always interesting to see how the wheel is reinvented. But here there's pretty much just 64 episodes and a few non-canon books. I can't really explain this well, but the shock or nostalgia of finding that Zane is an android, or that Nya becomes a ninja (which happened recently) isn't really there. Quote

It's not just about eliciting shock and nostalgia. There's also the factor of starting with more simple concepts (ninja with elemental powers) before branching out into things like ghosts and nindroids, and the idea that some plot threads/story elements might be better served if saved for a future movie, rather than trying to cram all of them into one movie. Nya's training to become a ninja in the TV series was great, but if you start with that, not only do you get less of a chance to emphasize her own training (since you have to focus on the training of the other ninja at the same time), but you also sacrifice the chance to explore some of her earlier character development—for instance, her time occupying the role of Samurai X. Oh right, character development. lol Yeah, but for basing the movie off the TV show, they're gonna need to make the events different than what we saw in the show, and it looks like that's what they're doing. This reminds me of Sonic, and how that franchise has a spin off series, with redesigns and a different tone and setting. I hope that the movie tries to go for something like that, and not have the movie overtake the main series. Quote
LegoRomania Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 When is Ninjago panel at SDCC? Maybe there will be some info about the movie, right? Quote

Exetrius Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Mind you, this does not necesarily mean that there will be no set reveals, but it's a little more unlikely. I hope for some more substantial discussion material, too! Quote
Aanchir Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Oh,ok.I hoped for some reveals at sdcc. But is ok,maybe they will reveal something about future seasons. Since the movie comes out in September 2017, it's probably more realistic to expect big announcements about the Ninjago movie at next year's SDCC rather than this year's. It'll be the first LEGO movie to be released in the second half of the year rather than the first, though, so teasers and things will probably start to surface well before next summer. Quote
gamejutzu Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Nothing new about the movie revealed, so that's a bummer. However, in the SDCC trailer for The Lego batman Movie, there's a Ninjago cameo in the city, as well as the Jade Blade pieces being in Batman's inventory. Quote

npgcole Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Yeah, this sign in the LEGO Batman trailer says "Ninjagotown" (Not to mention the guy on it looks to be smoking ) Quote

Exetrius Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Huh. The cast is real. https://twitter.com/...793980056363008 I would have preferred the original voices, but I guess this is a good thing. That means the shown figs were real (prototypes), most likely! (don't know if that's a good thing...) Quote
Robert8 Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 So they just replaced the cast from the TV show? Harsh.... Quote
legobagel Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 (edited) Huh, is Koko short for Misako, or is it a new version of Lloyd's mom? Edited August 11, 2016 by legobagel Quote

Amazing Bricks Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 (edited) I have mixed feelings for this movie. I'm not to keen on those voice actors, but maybe this movie will be great. Wait a minute, Koko?? Now this movie sucks haha jk Edited August 11, 2016 by amazingbricks Quote
BrickJagger Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Looks like they're really going for star power in this movie. Shame, the original actors are pretty good, it's going to be weird to hear the ninja with different voices. Quote
legobagel Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 (edited) Wonder what this means... movie might be better than show, as I thought the voice acting was so cringy... Edit: I like the show, and only some of the voice acting is annoying. A heck of a lot better than  *groan* Chima! Edited August 11, 2016 by legobagel Quote
