DuckBricks Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 I really, really hope they delve into Garmadon's motivations and character like in the show. I loved the aspect of his character where he refused to lay a finger on his son and only fought the four ninja because he wanted to prevent having to ever fight his son - defeating the four ninja would result in his son never getting trained. I also really enjoyed that he only wanted to turn everything into an evil version of itself because he wanted the world to feel how he felt and see what he saw - as he, too was forced to be evil. Fingers crossed at least some of this makes it into the movie... Quote
Master_Data Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 ^ That would actually work! I wouldn't want it any other way, but it'll just spiral back into the plot from The LEGO Movie ("I was never special, so you can't be either"). "Koko" - Ugh They reference Lloyd as "young Lloyd," although he's exactly the same age as the ninja (as of season 2). Maybe this occurs in between s2 pt1 and s2 pt2? He'd still be young and it would rewrite that horrible mega-weapon plot (it had its good points, but it was mostly filler). Quote

At most, there might be an easter egg showing that it's an alternate universe. As for Skylor, she does appear in all the finales since her debut, but yeah, she's ridiculously powerful and she never gets to use her powers. Edited August 12, 2016 by legozebra Quote

DuckBricks Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Too complicated. Out of curiosity, who voiced Lloyd in The LEGO Movie? Eh, I dunno. In CurseWorld P2, Chima was shown to be a parallel realm to Ninjago, and that was a fun Easter egg that lasted about 5 seconds, so I couod see them doing something like that... Lloyd didn't speak in TLM as far as I can recall... Quote
makoy Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Oh my god Garmadon's the villain again What's wrong with Garmadon? Quote
Exetrius Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 (edited) Okay, everyone is talking about news with no reference to the source, so here are the tweets: LEGO 15 uur15 uur geleden LEGO @LEGO_Group @NW1245 Here are the actors and the parts they play: Jackie Chan, Master Wu. Justin Theroux, Garmadon. Dave Franco, Lloyd. ... LEGO 15 uur15 uur geleden LEGO @LEGO_Group @NW1245 Olivia Munn, Lloyd’s mom, Koko. Fred Armisen, Cole. Abbi Jacobson, Nya. Kumail Nanjiani, Jay. Would be nice if he brought something more menacing than a boneheaded skeleton army, though. Edit: sorry for the Dutch in the quote! Edited August 12, 2016 by Exetrius Quote

Umbra-Manis Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 (edited) "Lloyd's Mom, Koko" Really? Name changes and reducing her entirely to the role of lloyd's mom? "Kung fu master Wu" Well, I guess we can't even keep the essential part of the story that's been the subtitle since THE START?! Spinjitzu has been replaced with Kung fu! More dumbing down. So basically Jackie Chan will be playing himself, and Lego has gone for almost pure comedy actors. Too many distinctive voices. Also, a rookie film director. I'm not familiar with any of his tv work, so I'll give him a pass for now. Edited August 13, 2016 by Umbra-Manis Quote
PicnicBasketSam Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 (edited) I'm fine with all this. I really am. I only watched part of the TV series, so if they override it completely for the sake of another fun LEGO movie, that's OK with me. Edited August 14, 2016 by PicnicBasketSam Quote

To be fair Koko and Misako do sound similar. I doubt kung Fu will replace spinjitzu, as that's the gimmick of Ninjago, and without it the series will be less special. Lloyd never did spinjitzu in the movie or the short though... Quote
Oky Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Wow, so much fanboy hate in this thread... Has it occurred to any of you that things like "kung fu master" and "Koko" might be typos? I mean, this is Twitter we're talking about, not an official press release. And even if they're not, it's apparent that this movie is trying to be different from the TV show, so changes to the characters and their world are to be expected. Batman in the Lego Cinematic Universe is very different from how he is depicted in other Lego media as well and you don't see anyone complaining about that because that incarnation is just as good as the other, just in a different way. So PLEASE, for the love of the brick, let's not boycott this movie based on a cast list like people have done with the new Ghostbusters. Just be open minded and maybe you will enjoy this version of Ninjago just as much as the original. Quote
LegoRomania Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 I'm excited for this movie and I'm curious what villains will bring to us. Quote
Cagast Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Wow, so much fanboy hate in this thread... Agreed. It's even worse on twitter, fanboys attacking Lego just because of the cast? This movie is not even in the same universe as the tv show and the storyline is different. Wouldn't it be even more strange if they actually left the original cast for the movie that isn't even connected to the show? Quote
PenPlays Posted August 14, 2016 Author Posted August 14, 2016 Keep in mind that the fanboy hate is such a small minority, too. Even if they are negative, that's not going to change the movie's success, boycotts, petitions (which almost always do nothing), or otherwise. Of course, most (not all, let me clarify) of said fanboys are too young to understand that. I do hold value in the TV show, myself, and I would not appreciate if this movie was a different take on it directly. However, the movie is its own thing, and I will consider anything and everything about it as such: it's own thing. Think of it like some TV shows that have movies based on their characters. You look at the Avengers shows, and although Iron Man or Thor may be found in the movies, they are in the shows as well, existing completely separate from their movie counterpart (if not inspired by their movie counterparts). In fact both the movies and shows (and even the comics mind you, if we continue our Avengers theme here) inspire each other to try different concepts from their other material, and make up their own. So why can't LEGO? It's understandable for someone who is devoted to this theme to feel odd seeing it changed from its original self. But to survive, the theme must evolve, grow, and branch out into something that transcends generations. That's how most of these extremely popular franchises survive, and in all honesty, we should allow Ninjago the breathing room to do so. You may never know what great things may come from it. Quote
gamejutzu Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) Lots of people fear that the movie will impact the show in a negative way. Maybe... The popularity of the movie will affect the show in a positive way... ? Like maybe the next season of the show will be back to 13 episodes or even more? Has it occurred to any of you that things like "kung fu master" and "Koko" might be typos? Koko probably isn't a typo. It sounds like something Misako would actually be nicknamed. Unless there's another big reveal between now and then, this might give us our first really good look at what to expect from the new movie in terms of voices and visual style (even though Jackie Chan is seemingly the only one voicing the same character he will be voicing in the movie). Incidentally, Storks comes out on the day The LEGO Ninjago Movie was originally scheduled to premiere before it got delayed to 2017. Quote

Wow! Really digging the scenery and animation quality here! It seems they have brought down the level of LEGO bricks from practically 100% to 80%, I guess. I'm fine with that. Not so much to say about the voice acting yet. Edited September 6, 2016 by Exetrius Quote
