Electricsteam Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Okay so ya'll know my ongoing project the pneumatic mountain northern locomotive, It's a good base for a train right no but I can't seem to figure out how I would properly do the finer details like pipes, ladders and those fin things, so on and so on. My train is a bit of a blank slate, I don't just want to keep it like this and call it done, I want to use all that empty space for some better details, and fix front of the train because that little platform falls off at the slightest touch. Some trains I'd like to make with my blank slate. I want to make this blank slate look big and heavy duty, I want to make this thing look powerful as it every so slowly inches forward... Anyways you guys have any times for detailing your trains? Many of those German trains have such nice detail on them. I know some of you folks must have seen these bigger trains up close, they aren't just big hunks of metal they are sorta like living hissing breathing monsters, these things are powerful... Anyways, tell me what y'all think Quote
Electricsteam Posted March 26, 2016 Author Posted March 26, 2016 I just don't like how it looks.... It's got the fin it has the light , bigger smokestack and what not...... What do you guys think Quote
THERIZE Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 The deflectors indeed look like well, crap... About pipes, Tony Sava built a cool locomotive using flex axles. ( ) Quote
v6TransAM Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 The deflectors indeed look like well, crap... About pipes, Tony Sava built a cool locomotive using flex axles. ( ) I think it has a lot more to do with the extra stuff associated with it being pneumatic rather than the deflectors. Pneumatic stuff ruins the line of the FEF-1 - FEF-3 class, which when seen without smoke deflectors tends to have a narrower boiler than most. Quote
Electricsteam Posted March 26, 2016 Author Posted March 26, 2016 (edited) This train is going to drive me crazy for a long while probably, The smoke deflectors have that odd rounded angled shaped , which I really don't know how I could do that properly... The lighters might be the best I can get for the boiler type I used.... It looks better then a flat front at least. Edit.... *keyboard mashing* I can't figure out any good bricks for the smoke deflector or what ever its called Edited March 26, 2016 by Electricsteam Quote

Maybe it would look better without them? or with a row of tiles on top of the studded portions? I'll post a picture soon of what I'm envisioning EDIT: couldn't figure out how you attached some stuff, so I gave up.... also tried attaching the headlights, couldn't think of how you did that either! Electricsteam Posted March 26, 2016 Author Posted March 26, 2016 (edited) Well... I made this.... I think this might be worse. I like the box thing in front of the boiler at least... Also I switched around the front bogie to have a magnet Edited March 26, 2016 by Electricsteam Quote
Murdoch17 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 (edited) what about using windscreen parts like this? I was inspired by the airplane door in your last picture. Edited March 26, 2016 by Murdoch17 Quote
Electricsteam Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 That'd go much higher then the smokestacks and the roof of the cab I don't think it would work too well maybe if it was lowered a bit, but it does look pretty sweet Quote
THERIZE Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 The Chinese RM class does have really big deflectors. And it surprisingly looks really cool! Quote
Electricsteam Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 EDIT: couldn't figure out how you attached some stuff, so I gave up.... also tried attaching the headlights, couldn't think of how you did that either! I used one of those bricks with the clip and attached it to the brick that holds up the bell, then I removed a 2x4 plate and replaced it with one of those hinge plate things Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 What do you guys think I think that this picture shows an amazing improvement! Quote
