samurai-turtle Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Brickset has a picture of the new series out. It's on the front page (for now). Quote
Dorayaki Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) Ariel. Hands down my favourite. I think the designers did a much better job with her hair than the minidoll version, I am very happy with her. I'll get multiples (needed to expand the mermaid colletion), I bet she's three to a box, nah maybe 4. I would say I don't hate both hairpices.... but just why both? If there is a reason why LEGO cannot bring the original hairpiece from the minidoll into the blind bag, my doubt is the fact that we've really rarely seen the rubber hairpieces used for minifigure characters, especially the licensed ones. But in general, I would say LEGO should save the money for another Disney character and just let Ariel keep her rubbish hairpiece.I personally kinda dislike the fact that every human-like character use normal column head, I mean, not all of them work, there should be some special cases, and Genie is one of them. I don't need to say more words for Buzz, just wonder if a possible future return of regular lineup could make all TS characters have column heads, or this series is just a special case? Alien..... uh.... I'm sure you can at least do a variant version, can't you LEGO? Cheshire Cat also looks not appropriate as a minifigure considering the Palace Pet series we've seen where every Disney animal is made into a new mold, i would choose Rabbit instead since he is more a human type character. This might also say Chip and Dale have very big chance to be minifigures in later series... uh ..... and so as Pluto? Overall I do still like this series cause there are definitely many long-waited characters for us to see. The other thing I'm not glad to see is Sitch is lonely in the whole LEGO world lineup. Seriously, I can exchange this Buzz with Lilo. Edited February 29, 2016 by Dorayaki Quote
Oky Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 At last! A PICTURE! *happy dance* I'm so excited! Most of these look great! I really don't get the complaints about the lack of accessories since there really aren't any logical accessories that the figs that don't have any could have come with. And it's not like CMFs didn't come without accessories before. My thoughts: Maleficent - Looks pretty cool. Nice addition to the Disney villains. Alice and Cheshire Cat - I'm not a huge fan of the movie, so these aren't too interesting to me, but they look good. I would have expected the mad hatter or queen of hearts as an antagonist for Alice instead, but many people seem to be happy about the cat, plus his legs and tail will be perfect for a custom Bing Bong, so I'm fine with it. Syndrome and Mr. Incredible - Awesome! These are spot on (except Bob's face maybe) and the printed tiles are neat accessories. Definitely getting multiples to create the rest of the family! Buzz and Alien - Sigh. As much as I love toy story, we really didn't need these. Aside from that horrible head on Buzz and some minor printing on the alien, they are exactly the same as before, making them completely useless. Why they felt the need to increase the fig count from 16 to 18 just to include these fillers is beyond me. Oh well, at least this will shut up those people that were complaining about the molded heads in the toy story sets, and one can never have enough aliens I guess. Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy - These look just how I thought they would and should look like. I don't see how they look "scary" at all. I guess they're saving Goofy and Pluto for wave 2. Pan and Hook - very good, although Peter does look oddly similar to Shaggy. Aladdin and Genie - Very excited about Aladdin, although the double lamp is indeed odd and I can't say I'm not disappointed with Genie. I understand that they didn't use a molded head for him for consistency, but the big forehead, small eyes, and small chin just don't work. But at least this will allow you to add hair and hat pieces to him for his transformations and the printed arms are great. Maybe he will look better in person. Stitch - As others have said, he is great and one of the most accurate of the bunch. But now we NEED Lilo in the next wave. Ariel and Ursula - Both are fantastic! I'm so glad they made a new fat tentacles piece for Ursula and her accessory makes sense. The only thing that bugs me about her is the black torso. Ariel's new hairpiece also looks way better than the mini doll one. But yeah, it's disappointing to see that TLG apparently thinks that mermaids always need to come with a clam and a pink diamond for some reason. It would have been so easy for them to include Lounder or Sebastian or even a human object instead, but I. Guess they want you to buy the princess sets for those. Oh well, off to bricklink I guess. So overall I'm very happy with this lineup. I do have some complaints, but it was clear from the start that nobody was going to be 100% happy with this series. Hopefully it will do well so that we can see many more waves. Also, now we can make some educated guesses what could be included in the next wave which will hopefully be soon. I don't need to say more words for Buzz, just wonder if a possible future return regular regular lineup could make all TS characters have column heads, or this series is just a special case? I really hope they go back to molded heads for any potential TS4 sets. Quote
InnerRayg Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 It kind of seems like the complaints are these look too much like Lego minifigures. Quote
Dorayaki Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) It kind of seems like the complaints are these look too much like Lego minifigures. I guess that is the main reason why this discussion thread have over 100+ pages. We could name exceptions of characters from several license (Simpsons is one of most the known cases from all) . Not to say this time Disney has way much more franchises than others and exceptions should be inevitable. To me, the ultimate ideal outcome is that newer figures could be visually compatible with the figure collection we had so far. Unless newer figures try to get rid of things we didn't like from older figures. Edited February 29, 2016 by Dorayaki Quote
Mr Greeble Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I'm so gonna use that hair with a fez for doctor who. Quote
KlodsBrik Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) They are looking much better than i´ve expected.... Dont know if im gonna collect them all. But they will surely sell well to young audience, and fans of Disney. They are actually quite cool all of them from what that first picture looks like. Edited February 29, 2016 by KlodsBrik Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Delightful range of characters, sold I'm getting most of the popular ones......oh, two wishes a series two and then a Loonie Tunes series - wishful thinking......well I guess for now we have the awesome series before us might be the best collectable series ever ? Quote
gedren_y Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 The Cheshire Cat just seems the wrong color to me, but I may just be remembering the night scenes from the movie, where he is purple. I'll get him, but probably will only use the head. Stitch! I must buy at least four. Both of my female cousins will want one, and I need at least two for myself. One to keep as is, and one (maybe more) to part out. Ursula seems pretty good as is. I can't wait until someone uses her for GOH, or even funnier, BOBS. Ariel has the hair the minidoll mermaid version should have had. I only have the human version, who's hair actually looks correct for that potion of the movie. I think I'd replace the head with something more feminine. I have a couple to choose from. I'd also give her a Friends fork. Is Aladdin flesh or medium dark flesh? If he is medium dark flesh, I have a better head for him. I hope we get the Prince Ababuah (I think that is how it's spelled) version in a later series. I want that outfit. The outfits for the Sultan and Jafar as well. The Genie is one I'm a little iffy about. The headgear separation line is a little too distinct in the image. It was the same with the Shakespeare fig too, but in hand I found it acceptable. Hopefully this will be the same. I need Hook for parts. Peter Pan I will probably change out the headgear for blond hair, so that he can be my Errol Flynn Robin Hood. Donald, Daisy, and Mickey I don't really need, but I have a use for Minnie's skirt. Maleficent is nearly perfect. All she needs is a trans-neon green stone, which I have. I may need multiples for parts. Syndrome is good as is, Another multiples for parts. The Pizza Planet Alien is one I never got, so this updated version will do nicely. Multiples. Heads and hands go to creature figs, and bodies get used with other heads and hands. Mr. Incredible is okay, but his legs look too short because of the printing. The belt should have been on the torso, and the 'briefs' should have had a steeper angle. I get why they did it that way, but he looks more like the fat Mr. Incredible, not the fit version that is in that suit. I'd hope to see the original costume in fig. I can't read what's on the tile. Could that be the Mr. Incredible Sings album that gets talked about in the commentary from the DVD? Again, multiples for parts. I can't tell much about Alice, but I have a better face for her. I have a use for the Buzz balaclava. I didn't really like the original Buzz armor, and I feel the same about this one. I hope the torso and legs are usable elsewhere. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I really hope they go back to molded heads for any potential TS4 sets. I imagine they will. They probably went with the traditional minifigure head for Buzz here because they wanted to distinguish it from the one(s) in the full-blown Toy Story theme, and it adhered to the logic they're using for this series (traditional heads for human or human-appearing characters, special molds for those with overtly non-human ones). I suspect the future Toy Story sets we'll (hopefully) get with the next movie will use the same molds for any / all characters returning from the 2010 sets, albeit probably with "updated" printing. The more I think about it, the less disappointed I am with the new Pizza Planet alien, since a) I really have plenty anyway, and b) it actually doesn't look as different as I thought at first. I think the biggest difference might be the dual molding / printing for the boots, which one might be able to fix by replacing legs. If so, I might be able to satisfactorily expand my PPA army with this, though again I don't need that many more anyway. I do think I understand why the PPA and Buzz are included, though. Toy Story is of course the iconic Pixar franchise, and while there have been sets, they were released six years ago (!) - not that long ago to you and me, but long enough for the entire generation of kids in TLG's core audience that got those sets to have entered their dark ages, while a fresh set of kids moves in to take their place. Buzz is perhaps the most popular character from the series. And while Woody would be the obvious natural pairing, the PPA might be seen as a good alternative choice, partly because it goes well with Buzz because of the space theming, and partly because it's the one character in this entire series that's an "army builder" as opposed to a specific, unique character, and it seems every Minifigures series tries to have at least one of those. And perhaps they're saving Woody for Series 2 along with Goofy. The PPA here can be great for those Toy Story fans who, unlike us, weren't able to get a bunch of PPAs in sets (which seems to be a fair number of people, judging from some of the responses in this thread). But that said, yeah, they're probably wastes of two slots for me personally, like they are for you... and yet I know I'll go ahead and get one of each anyway, just for completeness. Ah, the collector mentality... Quote
Foxes Productionz Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Not as good as I was expecting but these still look pretty cool my favourites are Aladdin, Stitch, and both Incredibles characters. I think hook is definitely the most disappointing, I think that he really needed a moulded face. And for those complaining about the about how we are getting the exact same Toy Story minifigures, it looks like both Buzz and the alien have dual moded legs. Also I think Disney had the bigger say in which characters were made and that's why we're getting Toy Story charectors that we've already seen instead some entirely new minifigure. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Buzz and the Alien aren't really necessary, but the rest of the minifigs are fantastic IMO The biggest surprise to me is Stitch, but too bad there's no Lilo in this series... Maybe next year Quote
strangely Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 The new skirt piece for Minnie is interesting. I'm hoping they did a similar piece for Alice. Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite Disney movies, so I'm kind of anxious to see her minifigure in entirety. Cheshire Cat looks better than expected though I would have rather had a molded figure. I like the new Buzz. I personally felt he and Woody should have regular heads, so I'm glad to see them going down that path for at least Buzz. I can't help but think that they need to create a rounded piece to put on heads. If Buzz had a rounded piece covering the stud he'd be perfect. The others look fine, but admittedly I have limited interest in those other films. I only really plan to get minifigures from Alice, Peter Pan, Incredibles and maybe Stitch. Maybe Ariel, she's one of the better mermaids they've put out. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I try to get at least one of each figure from any given Minifigures series, and this will be no exception. As with The Simpsons, though, I doubt I'll get more than that, given that all but one are specific, unique, individual characters (though I might get multiples of a few exceptions for parts). The only one here I'd normally want a bunch of as-is is the Pizza Planet Alien (well, maybe that and Buzz, if I wanted to recreate the toy store scenes in Toy Story 2, but I already have almost two dozen PPAs (plus several copies of Buzz) from the 2010 line. I like these, I must say. Quote
8BrickMario Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) Uhhhh....I'm not sure about these. Ursula looks great (love the new tentacles), but some of these look so awkward with regular heads, especially Buzz and Hook. * Donald and Daisy: Are just horrifying. * Alice: The hair looks good, but her face is odd. * Maleficent: The attempted face shaping is terrible. What a shame. * Syndrome looks all right, I guess. * Aladdin: He looks great, though! The hair is really nice. * Hook: Just creepy. * Stitch: No complaints, just don't care for the character. * Cheshire Cat: Why? He's not even bipedal! The face is right, though. * Mr. Incredible: I like the memorabilia, but he's sort of boring. * Alien: Would have liked something new. * Mickey and Minnie are alright, and I like the new skirt. Creepy smiles aside. * Peter Pan: looks nice, I might get him. * Genie: Well, that piece is interesting. Too plain, though. * Ursula: My favorite. The hair is great, as are the tentacles, and it looks really nice. * Ariel: We really needed an ABS alternative to her hair? Again, the face is odd, but the tail is nice. Overall, this series just feels off. The faces aren't well suited for minifigure heads, but the new pieces are really nice. EDIT: Wait a minute. Ursula's tail piece includes a 3D belly in front! Look at the lighting! Edited February 29, 2016 by 8BrickMario Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Pardon my adding this, Ursula will be the first minifig with a realistic chest not just drawn on......interesting Lego I wonder if more of this might happen or is it just for the character only ? Quote
BrickOn Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 EDIT: Wait a minute. Ursula's tail piece includes a 3D belly in front! Look at the lighting! Yep a couple of people have mentioned that already... but I guess that's a pretty big piece, bigger than Medusa's tail piece. +1 for potential future CMF centaurs. Quote
deskp Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 most of them look very good, once there is proper images of them I think a lot of people will think better of them. Donald looks a bit horrible as part of the group but isolate him and see his legs etc as a whole and he looks ace. I think it's FANTASTIC they have normal minifigure heads. lets just hope some off the ones with weird expressions have double sided heads. =] Quote
8BrickMario Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Pardon my adding this, Ursula will be the first minifig with a realistic chest not just drawn on......interesting Lego I wonder if more of this might happen or is it just for the character only ? Just her, it's probably a projection from the tentacles that her torso sits behind. They had to include her voluptuous figure! Quote
Bolingbroke Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 too many missteps from lego recently, way too many. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Seeing this picture brought a huge grin to my face this morning. Finally, PICTURES!!! Quote
K_Tiger Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I'm kind of appalled at just how many of these I really like. I almost think Genie would have benefited from having a molded head, and Chesire Cat really should have been an accessory, but 8-9 of these (plus multiples of Maleficent and Ursula) are gonna mean I'm not gonna dread seeing these (looking at you, Simpsons series 2) on shelves. Quote
egg roller Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Well, I think that they look pretty good. That is coming from someone who had no interest in this series at all. Mickey and Minnie look accurate and I dont really think they look odd. The headgear in this series should excite everyone! Alladins is really cool. Ursula's, and Malefacent's too. Pan's hat/hair combo will be showing up in many historic builds here and Syndrome's is wild. Ill be getting most of these figs. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I will say I'm disappointed they don't have a higher number of female characters. I would have thought that if any Minifigures series was likely to have more than six or so, it would be the Disney series, but no, still only six ladies out of eighteen. Hopefully Series 2 will have more (just as The Simpsons Series 2 had twice as many as Series 1). Quote
Ultron Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Alien..... uh.... I'm sure you can at least do a variant version, can't you LEGO? It is though...he has boot printing and also a new torso Quote
